For Tony Staab, sales manager of Rich & Sons RV Headquarters, having an indoor arena to showcase the best in the recreational vehicle industry has always been a dream.

Staab is the third generation of his family to have owned and operated Rich & Sons, which is fast approaching its 40th anniversary. The business is at 5112 S. Antelope Drive, just off Highway 281.

It will give our customers a good shopping experience, especially with Nebraskas weather, which can be extreme at sometimes, Staab said of the new showroom.

Rich & Sons is known not only for its wide selection of recreational vehicles but also for its parts department and customer service, which have kept people coming for nearly 40 years.

But we wanted to give them a state-of-the-art sales facility also, and we think we have done that, Staab said.

The indoor arena is about 11,500 square feet and can house up to 18 units at a time. All of the sales representatives are now next to the indoor showroom to allow for better customer service.

I have been planning this for years, Staab said. What we have done is to be able to put power to all the units we have inside.

That allows sales representatives to show the customer how everything works. With the vehicles inside and out of the weather, Staab said, they can also simulate what the RVs look like set up for a campground.

That allows us to show people that have not camped before what it feels like, he said. It is just a nice way of promoting and demonstrating what we are not able to do outside.

Construction on the new indoor showroom started last fall and was recently completed with a grand opening planned for March 22 through 24. Store hours are 9 a.m. through 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

The Walmarts are coming.

In the wake of the Great Recession, Walmart is one major retailer with significant plans for expansion in Tucson.

The company has three new supercenters and two neighborhood markets in the works.

The discount retailer has identified Tucson as an area that's underserved when it comes to affordable shopping options, said Delia Garcia, a Walmart spokeswoman.

"Our goal is to improve access to affordable groceries for Tucson families," Garcia said.

Tucson's big-box retail market has been hit hard by bankruptcies and closures since 2008. National chains such as Mervyn's, Circuit City, Linens 'N Things and Borders book stores have left big spaces in shopping centers.

And as consumers reined in spending, discount retailers like Walmart, along with dollar and second-hand stores, have become increasingly popular.

With its one-stop-shopping model, Walmart fills a niche in the retail market, said Greg Furrier, a commercial broker with Picor Commercial Real Estate Services. In contrast, an electronics retailer like Best Buy, which sells destination products people are willing to drive for, won't have as many stores, Furrier said.

When considering whether Walmart presents a threat to other grocers, consumers don't generally change their habits unless they can save a decent amount of money, Furrier said. So more expensive grocers tend to be more vulnerable when a Walmart moves in nearby, he said.

The consumer market has recently shifted toward discount retailers - spurring the expansion of Walmart - but Furrier said there's no way to know for sure how long that trend will last.

WEIRTON - The Tri-State Home and Garden Show is fast approaching.

The annual event will take place Friday through Sunday at the Serbian-American Cultural Center. It is being presented through a joint effort by the Weirton Area and Jefferson County chambers of commerce, and coordinated by Beyond Marketing.

Major sponsors for the show this year include Weirton Medical Center, Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration and DeNoon Lumber.

The show is free and open to the public, with doors open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The two chambers of commerce will hold a joint Business After Hours, open only to chamber members, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.

Weirton Medical Center is returning as a sponsor for the long-running area event.

The local hospital will offer free blood pressure checks, along with health information and giveaways. Representatives of the medical center will be on hand to answer questions from area residents.

"We're pleased that the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce host the Home and Garden Show each year," said Kevin Brown, director of communications for Weirton Medical. "It always draws a big crowd and gives local businesses the chance to showcase their products and services.

"For Weirton Medical Center, the show is a great opportunity to be in front of the public with important health information as well as information about Weirton Medical Center's programs and services," Brown said. "We hope the public comes out again this year to see the different vendors and experience the show."

Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration was founded in 1977 by Robert Contraguerro Sr. Through the years, the company has grown and worked on projects in more than 15 states, including taking part in hurricane relief up and down the East Coast.

Home and Garden Show fast approaching

Chatsworth House in Derbyshire has opened for the new season following a 14m restoration project.

Scaffolding has been removed from the 300-year-old property - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire - after 12 months of work.

The stonework, carvings and 24-carat gold gilding have been repaired and cleaned on the south and west fronts.

Further work will be carried out to clean the East front over the next few years.

The project follows the refurbishment of the interior in 2010, and is the most extensive work on the house since it was remodelled by the 6th Duke in the 1830s.

The Duke of Devonshire said: "It's absolutely wonderful to see the house as it must have looked to my ancestors.

"It has always been a thrilling moment to see the house come into view as you drive across the park and now that view has been made even more magical.

"With the years of blackened grime now removed from the stone, it looks truly magnificent and I'm delighted that it has been preserved for many future generations of visitors to enjoy."

Chatsworth's head of special projects, Sean Doxey, said: "Although the building was in reasonably good condition, it would have started to deteriorate very quickly if we hadn't stepped in now to repair the worst ravages caused by the weather."

Although there is no proof so far that she had committed any offence in terms of law, because the NFC issue has drawn controversy and dispute, she was willing to withdraw from the government, he told reporters before attending a tahlil prayer for the late Tun Abdul Razak at Masjid Sultan Ahmad Shah, Pekan, here today.

Shahrizat, at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today, announced her withdrawal as the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development when her tenure as Senator expires on April 8.

However, Shahrizat said she would remain as Wanita Umno head and Barisan Nasional (BN) Wanita head.

When asked of her status in the party, the Prime Minister said her position in the party was not an issue because it was different from her post in the cabinet.

This is because with regard to the NFC case, the debate was her position as a Minister in the cabinet, he said.

Najib also urged party members, especially Wanita Umno members, to continue supporting Shahrizat as the head of the Wanita movement.

Give her the support and cooperation because she (Shahrizat) has given her commitment to lead Wanita Umno and turn the movement into an important machinery for the general election, he said.

Tired of a clunky kitchen layout, the Burstein family had long yearned to renovate.

John Wohlberg, left, and his crew working on a remodeling job in Leonia. 'Anyone doing home improvements now is doing it because they are staying,' says Wohlberg, whose contracting business is based in Ridgewood.

They have lived in their Harrington Park home since 1998, and the kitchen was OK, but the finishes were dated and the layout was poorly planned.

"It's tiny, and everything is all in one corner," said Cindy Burstein. "If more than one person wants to cook, everyone is bumping into each other."

But like many, the family had put it off because of the volatile economy and some job uncertainties. After things calmed down, she said, they decided they could do the kitchen.

She's picked out cabinets (a country white) and chose quartz for the counter tops. There will be an island in the middle and a pass-through window into the dining room. Burstein says she, her 16-year-old, her 10-year-old and her husband, Steve, are thrilled with the plan.

The final session of last weekend'sMIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference was intended to be an entertaining spectacle, kind of an easy comedown after two full days of high-minded discussion of advanced statistics. The main attraction? A live recording of "The B.S. Report," the ESPN podcast hosted by columnist and Grantland.com editor-in-chief Bill Simmons, where "The Sports Guy" would interview Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

Cuban is a slam dunk at Sloan. For one thing, he's an owner with a high-tech background whose Mavericks have long been at the vanguard of the NBA's analytics movement. Cuban brought in Roland Beech, the creator of advanced stat haven 82games.com, to consult for the team, and actually had Beech seated behind the bench, there to "interface" with Mavs coach Rick Carlisle, during Dallas' championship run.

Beyond that, of course, Cuban's famously quotable, liable to say just about anything when put in front of a microphone.Hence the podcast. Simmons and Cuban have publicly sparred before why not close down the conference with them stepping back into their rhythm for some good-natured banter?

From the start, though, something seemed a little off. As Simmons and Cuban began to talk, what was intended as jocular back-and-forth felt a little more adversarial than it seemed like it should. The vibe felt off.

And then, as Carly Carioli of the Boston Phoenix wrote in a blog post accompanying an excellent feature story on the conference, "the atmosphere turned even weirder."

... Cuban began telling the story of how he'd almost fired a Mavs employee for encouraging Dallas fans to do the wave. Cuban hates the wave. "I'd rather have 60 minutes of Kiss Cam," he said, to laughs. Simmons has long been on record as being a fan of the Kiss Cam [...] and piped up in favor of it. "I like the Kiss Cam," Simmons said.

"That's because you and your boyfriend are always on it," Cuban spat.
