Home Sweet Trouble Free Remodeling Solutions
Whether adding an addition to a growing business, re-facing a home garage or overhauling and revamping a cramped kitchen, the primary decision involves selecting a competent contractor. Business or home improvement can be sweet and trouble free or it can be racked with unexpected costs increases, shoddy craftsmanship and the mindset of an uncaring contractor.
Heres how Scottsdale Remodeling Pros new Safe-Remodeling Fact Sheet can help you make educated construction choices.
Home Contractor Horror Stories
With a three-year-old boy and an 18-month daughter, the Nelsons needed a fenced in back yard. Their Scottsdale home was dead on the edge of the road, but toddlers move quickly and the risk of an accident weighted heavy each parent.
Contractor bids for the fence-work came in at around $4,500. Estimated completion times ranged from three to five weeks. But luck sided with the Nelsons and they came upon a locally listed home improvement company that offered to handle the job for less than $1,800 with a two week turnaround.
Then came the rip-off: The low bidder pressed for a materials deposit of $1,000. The Nelsons paid it. Shortly thereafter, the so-called builder disappeared along with his local ads and local contact numbers. The Nelsons got no finished fence and no unused construction materials.

Housing's Remodeling Cost Vs Value Report released encouraging news that six year declines have been broken and confirm the Minneapolis housing market's positive changes over 2011- 2012. Destiny Homes, a luxury Minneapolis home builder and renovator, comments on the report and why well-chosen home improvements make home a more enjoyable and liveable place to be while increasing in value.
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) January 19, 2013
According to trends in the Cost Vs Value Report for 2013, "In a positive sign for the remodeling industry, the 2013 national average cost-value ratio rose to 60.6%, ending a six-year decline. The ratio represents nearly a three-point improvement over 2011-12, and is more than a half-point higher than the ratio from two years ago. Lower construction costs are the principal factor in the upturn, especially when measured against stabilizing house values."
"The bottom line is: today home renovations and major updates make sense because you want them and make smart choices when making them. The best home remodeling projects are those that fit your use and enjoyment of your home," says Butch Sprenger, owner of Destiny Homes.

You like the neighbors you have. The local school. The beauty of your neighborhood. No matter the reason, you're not leaving any time soon. But remodeling can keep your home livable and enjoyable for your family.
Paul Kane, CEO and executive vice president of the Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa, has said previously that homeowners are remodeling to make homes healthier, more convenient, more luxurious and more secure.
In addition to the high-efficiency models, some can also be a benefit to asthma and allergy sufferers. And forget about the noise your washer and dryer generate. New technologies dampen vibration and reduce the noise you've grown accustomed to hearing.
As more people take efforts to improve the environment, as well as their health, they're paying attention to their indoor environment, too. Find more low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints and other building materials with fewer, if any, harsh chemicals and toxins.
Window replacement is not the prettiest project, but it will save your household money and energy. Local window professionals recommend low-E, argon-filled, dual-pane windows. Such windows are designed to help keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
If homeowners aren't interested in replacing all of their windows, Justin Liogghio, regional manager of Woodbridge Home Exteriors, said some will opt to have at least the windows in the biggest rooms replaced or in spaces such as the main living room and the bedrooms that are used most.
Hardwood floors offer elegance and value. It's no wonder that people continue to request this flooring be put in or their carpets ripped out to reveal it. To get the most aesthetic value out of hardwood flooring over time, find engineered and prefinished flooring. It can be more durable and low-maintenance. Look for bamboo or porcelain tiles that are meant to look like hardwood.
Look for more outdoor kitchens, waterfalls, pools, bar areas and fire pits. If such an expenditure is too much, consider at least putting in pavers, one local remodeler recommended.
Patrick O'Neal of Bullfrog Pest and Lawn management said clients come to the full-service landscaper for a host of improvements. But pavers give a more "closed-in" feeling.
The bottom-line, O'Neal said, is about what you want to invest in: "Would you rather spend $3,000 on a cruise or something you can walk out and enjoy every Friday night?"

A simple service to turn your mobile phone into an extension of your bank account has come a step closer.
Eight banks and building societies have committed to launching the new mobile payment service in spring 2014.
The big five banks Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, Royal Bank of Scotland and Santander are all backing the initiative, which is co-ordinated by the Payments Council.
Pay as you go: The new system prevents the need to hand over bank account details.
The aim is to link your bank account to your mobile phone number through a massive database. This would allow you to send money to a friend or relative, or to pay a babysitter or plumber, for example, simply by knowing their mobile phone number.
There would be no need to remember or to disclose your sort code or bank account number. Instead, the person paying would simply enter your number and the amount to be paid on their phone.
Adrian Kamellard, chief executive of the Payments Council, says: The service will offer a simple, secure way to split a bill for dinner, receive money from a friend or to pay a tradesman without needing to remember or share account details.
Joining will not be compulsory. Before the service is up and running, banks will invite customers to register and to say which account they want to link their phone to.

Q: We are finally having a new toilet installed and need to make a decision. Because of the lower fixture costs, my husband wants a "two-piece" toilet. But because of the nice look, I want to get a "one-piece" toilet. What are some other one-piece-toilet features that I may be overlooking so I can try to nicely convince him to change his mind? -- Jennifer, Georgia
A: Because of higher manufacturing costs, one-piece toilets can be more expensive than standard two-piece models, and that can be a deciding issue. However, thanks to their overall design and "seamless" tank-to-bowl connection, one-piece toilets are usually easier to clean than two-piece models. Labor-wise, they can also be a little quicker to install because you don't have to attach the tank to the bowl.
Like the name says, it's all right out of the box in one big piece, and many models may even include the toilet seat.
Finally, the compact size and styling of a one-piece toilet may allow them to fit better into smaller bathroom spaces or under shelving. So when you add everything up, even though the initial costs of a one-piece toilet may be more, it may work out better for you.
