At the 16th annual REX Award banquet, Renewal took home awards for the Bathroom Remodel under 25k, Kitchen Remodel between 30-60k, Kitchen Remodel between 60-125k , Whole House Remodel 150-300k, and Whole House Remodel under 150k categories. The quality of craftsmanship and service Renewal Remodels & Additions strives for has been recognized by the awards banquet several times, resulting in being awarded over 65 REX awards since 2001.

The banquet was held on Tuesday, May 21st at the Fircrest Country Club, where awards were given to Remodelers that are considered the best of the best. Quality and professionalism in design, materials, and creativity are a few of the main elements that contestants are judged on. Hosted by the Master Builders Association of Pierce County, the 28 awards focus on awarding quality remodels in all sorts of categories, including smaller jobs and large remodeling jobs.

Renewal was also notified that they had received regional 2013 Chrysalis Awards in two categories- one for the kitchen remodel under 50k and another for the kitchen remodel between 75-100k. Last year, the company was granted two 2012 awards as well. The Chrysalis Awards are a national competition that recognizes the best remodeling projects completed in the United States.

United Home Experts recently aided in the revitalization of a Massachusetts landmark, as they completed the restoration project of the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury. The church, which was established in 1722, was in dire need of external renovations.

United Home Experts began the renovations by stripping the old siding from the exterior of the church, and installing new insulation. In some places, new plywood sheathing was required because the old sheathing had rotted away. United also installed a new vapor barrier in order to protect the plywood from moisture, and avoid rot in the future.

Perhaps the most modern update that United included in their restoration of the church was the installation of the Everlast low-maintenance siding solution. Everlast is waterproof, and capable of withstanding winds of up to 285 mph. In a moisture-prone environment like Shrewsbury, which has seen its fair share of prodigious New England snowfall over the years, a water resistant solution was the perfect choice for an older structure where wood rot could be an issue.

Restoration projects on such an old structure, pieces of which are nearly 250 years old, can be fraught with unforeseen complications, and should only be undertaken by seasoned professionals. United was able to handle any curveballs that came their way, such as rotted structural beams and a crumbling brick foundation, while still preserving the character of the historic structure.

The work has been done with an extremely high degree of professionalism, said Harold Stuart, a representative from the church. The crews have been extremely neat at all times. I would highly recommend them.

Brandon Regional Health Centre will undergo rotating closures of beds over the next three months and some patients may be temporarily transferred to other health facilities while a new sprinkler system is installed at the hospital.

Prairie Mountain Health CEO Penny Gilson said every effort will be made to minimize disruption and make the transition as "seamless and smooth" as possible.

"Well certainly work with the patients and their families to make it (the) least stressful as possible," Gilson said. "But our reality is that we really do need the Brandon beds for the people who need that level of service."

Gilson said they will be monitoring the occupancy at the BRHC and the level of care that patients require.

"As needed, we will have to move units around within (BRHC), but if we become extremely tight for beds, we will need to look at moving people to potentially alternate facilities," Gilson said. "It will be based on where people can first and foremost, get safe, quality care."

Depending on what is available at rural health centres, patients may be transferred to Souris, Carberry or other nearby facilities.

"It could be any of those that have beds available, thats really going to be the issue," said Brian Schoonbaert, chief operating officer at BRHC and vice-president of finance, capital and support services with Prairie Mountain Health.

"And of course when transferring, youre always having to ensure that theres a doctor on the other end that we can transfer the care to."
