A convicted double murderer who will be almost 100 years old before he is eligible for parole has admitted to setting fire to a shop 16 years ago.
Notorious criminal Rodney Collins appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court via video-link from the high security wing of Barwon Prison, to plead guilty to one count of arson causing damage to a shop in 1997.
He is serving jail time for the 1987 murders of Ray and Dorothy Abbey at their Heidelberg West home.
He has also been previously named as the hit man hired by gangland figure Carl Williams to kill police informer Terrence Hodson and his wife Christine at their Kew home in 2004.
Today, the court heard Collins approached police about the 1997 arson to "clear the decks."
He admitted pouring petrol through a front door and a smashed window of the Campbellfield premises, before throwing in a lighted match.
He told police "[I] wanted to burn the f*****g joint down," but he did not explain why.
The fire caused $12,000 worth of damage.
Collins' lawyer Christopher Traill told the court his client is already living in onerous conditions, and is only allowed out his cell for two hours a day.
The magistrate ordered Collins serve a two-year sentence to be served concurrently with the double murder sentences.

KINGWOOD, Texas A 49-year-old woman accused of stealing from porches in Kingwood turned herself into authorities on July 28.
Linda Tatosian is charged with theft, Montgomery County Sheriffs Office.
Tatosian was identified and charged on June 28; however, she did not turn herself in until the end of July.
The suspect was identified after KHOU 11 viewers recognized the woman and her car in the surveillance video from Kings Lake Estates.
A victims surveillance camera was rolling when the crime happened at his house in a gated subdivision.
The video shows Tatosian ripping open packages and trying on a pair of shoes. She then attempts to open the front door before driving away. Minutes later, she was recorded near the front door of a neighbors house where she appeared to relieve herself.
Tatosian is out on a $500 bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 12.
