Warm Weather Wreaking Havoc on Local Rooftops - February 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Rockford-Milton Clarks ceilings in his laundry room are heavily damaged due to ice melting from his roof leaking into the walls.

Clark says I woke up a little after 12, I come downstairs and immediately I heard a dripping.

Clark isnt the only Stateliner hearing that dreaded dripping noise. Crews at Instant Roofing and Remodeling were busy working on rooftops removing ice so water can flow down the roof. Its to help prevent Ice Dams.

Marty Hayes from Instant Roofing and Remodeling says Ice Damming forms after so many layers of ice that dont get a chance to melt off the roof because it was so cold for so long. And then when we have extreme warm temperatures like this where all the snow is melting at once, it ponds up behind the ice where it doesnt flow off the roof. And it pushes its way underneath the shingles.

This winters persistent sub-zero temperatures have not given ice much time to melt. Hayes adds in recent years it usually warms up every other week, so the ice doesnt build up as high. This year Ive seen ice build up four to five feet up the roof line.

In a news release issued this afternoon, the Crown corporation announced two contracts valued at $336,000 to upgrade 22 social housing homes in St. Johns with home-heat recovery systems to increase energy efficiency.

The provincial government recognizes the importance of providing safe and affordable rental housing to families and individuals with low incomes in housing need, said Minister Kevin OBrien, who is responsible for the corporation.

These latest contracts will result in upgrades to housing units and demonstrates our continued commitment and investment into social programs,

G.S. Hunt Ltd. received one contract for $277,000 for exterior renovations and installation of systems in six housing units in the east end of the city, while Eastern Siding Systems Ltd. was awarded $59,000 to install the systems in a 16-unit building in the centre part of the city.

The exterior upgrades will include wall, window, door and roofing replacements along with installation of new steps, decks and ramps. The expected completion date for the work is September 2014.

Eastern Sidings project is expected to be completed by April 2014.

According to the news release, since January 2013, $10 million has been spent to renovate approximately 450 social housing units throughout the province. To date, about 75 per cent of the units in the province have received exterior upgrades.

Limited Time Discount for Wood Cleaning Service in Topeka, KS by Renew Crew - February 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Lecompton, KS (PRWEB) February 19, 2014

Harsh environmental elements including sun and rain can cause damage to wood over time. Many homeowners turn to power washing as an option to clean their wood siding or decks. Renew Crew warns against the typical power washing option as this can actually cause more damage to wood. To return exterior wood to like-new condition, Renew Crew experts apply a 3-step wood cleaning process that instantly revives most decks and exteriors. The process gently removes dirt build up, mold, and mildew that over time can destroy the finish and compromise the wood.

Step 1 of the Renew Crew wood cleaning process soaks the wood fibers with a foam wash. Although Chlorine is used by most cleaning services, Renew Crew is committed to using a non-abrasive solution that is safe for children, pet, and plants. While cleaning, the foam wash in this first step also stops the bleaching effects and chemical breakdown of the wood caused by the harsh elements of nature.

Step 2 includes a rinse with a carefully calibrated pressure washer to prevent damaging the wood like the typical water blast from most power washers. The gentle rinse in this second step can be adjusted to ensure the water pressure is enough to rinse away the dirt without cracking the wood or creating crevices.

Step 3, the final step of the wood cleaning process, is a Renew Crew exclusive polymer sealant that creates a protective seal, blocking UV rays from the sun. The sealant creates a barrier that forms a layer of protection from mold, mildew, dirt, and rain in addition to sun damage.

Renew Crew's 3-step wood cleaning process cleans, restores, and protects. And with the exclusive final sealant step, customers enjoy a like-new deck or exterior while relying on years of maintenance-free exposure to the harsh natural elements.

Renew Crew was founded March 1993 in Springfield, Missouri by Stan Krempges, partner in a fence installation business. Stan recognized that his customers desired a better way to keep their fences, decks and other outdoor structures clean and protected and set out to find that better way. After extensive research, Stan developed an environmentally safe cleaner specifically for exterior wood. After that success followed additional steps to seal and protect and then partnerships with other complementary businesses resulting in Renew Crew franchises throughout the United States.

Hammer Museum's 'Made in L.A. 2014' draws on city's artful bounty - February 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Los Angeles is brimming with hidden treasures and at the Hammer Museum's second biennial show, "Made in L.A. 2014," some of the city's best-kept art secrets will be revealed.

Consider the selections from the Los Angeles Museum of Art not to be confused with Wilshire Boulevard's Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Tucked down an alleyway, wedged against the steel siding of an Eagle Rock garage, the LAMOA is a tiny, 9-by-12-foot open-air wooden hut built by the artist Alice Knitz.

    INTERACTIVE: Discover songs of L.A.

Artworks from LAMOA's permanent collection of local and international artists, including some of Knitz's own sculptural installations, will be on display at the Hammer's ambitious "Made in L.A. 2014."

The exhibition, which opens June 15, features emerging and under-recognized artists from the L.A. area. On Wednesday, the museum announced the lineup of 35 artists and collectives. Among them are emerging artists Marina Pinsky and Devin Kenny; AM radio station KCHUNG, which is also the Hammer's public engagement artist-in-residence; and more widely known artists who include Gabriel Kuri, Wu Tsang and Judy Fiskin.

The inaugural "Made in L.A." show, a 2012 collaboration between the Hammer and the art space LAXART, took place in three locations: the Hammer, LAXART and the Department of Cultural Affairs' Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park. It featured 60 artists.

This year's biennial will feature a greater percentage of midcareer artists, co-curator Michael Ned Holte says, and the exhibition which includes painting, sculpture, video, photography, performance and installation work will take place entirely in the Hammer, utilizing every gallery in the museum.

"We thought about the parameters and expectations of the show a little differently than last time," says Holte, who's organizing the show with Hammer chief curator Connie Butler.
