The mold at Ridgeway Rescue Squad building left the unit with thousands worth of a problem. In connection with it, My Cleaning Products gave out tips how others can kill mold quickly and save themselves from such a huge expense.
A report from wsls.com published on February 04, 2014 related that the squad members have already spent $60,000 to $80,000 of their own money for some de-construction in the building in order to stop the fungus from further spreading. However, it detailed that some $200,000 worth of repair was still needed. And though the Henry County Board of Supervisors appropriated $95,000 to help them, it cited that it would only cover almost just half of the expense.
The report relayed that the fungus was discovered in the squad's building last year. It added that poor construction resulting to water leaks was determined as the cause of its presence.
There were13 types of mold identified in the place, said the report. Some of them, it shared, were deemed dangerous to health. And so, to protect the health of rescue workers, the basement, kitchen and other areas affected by mold were temporarily closed while the repairs were ongoing.
Below is an excerpt from the post Mold Hit Ridgeway Rescue Squad by My Cleaning Products.
Mold hit Virginia's Ridgeway Rescue Squad building. And needless to say, it caused the unit a number of problems, including thousands of expenses for damage repairs.
The fungus was discovered last year. According to squad president Darren Lockridge, there were 13 types of it found in the basement, kitchen and other areas of the building. Some of them, he added, were deemed harmful to health.
According to My Cleaning Products, mold remediation is imperative. And as it said, that's because its presence could bring in not just various health threats but also big expenses.
However, it stated that in order for a huge mold spending to be truly prevented, the treatment must be early implemented. That, it explained, will stop spores from further spreading and damaging more space and items.

GROTON -- Looking to expand the role of the Lost Lake Sewer Advisory Committee, members regrouped, brainstorming ideas with the aim of approaching the Board of Selectmen for a change in their mandate.
Originally established to study septic conditions at Lost Lake, the committee's recommendation to build a $12.9 million sewer system that would have connected the neighborhood with a treatment plant in Ayer was rejected by a 2012 Town Meeting.
One of the reasons for the rejection was due to uncertainty that the source of the contamination of the lakes was coming from neighborhood septic systems. Instead, residents insisted that a more thorough study of the area around the lakes be undertaken to make sure.
As a result, a reconstituted Lost Lake Sewer Committee was appointed and consultants hired to proceed with testing, which proved inconclusive.
Findings however, did indicate the existence of unexpected "emergent contaminants" at different points, including those near the Water Department's Whitney Well site.
Emergent contaminants is a new category of potential pollutants of ground water that is little understood in how it travels in the groundwater or how much of a threat to people its presence might be.
Comprised mostly of prescription medicines, testing at two sites on the lakes indicated the presence of five kinds of drugs, including tranquilizers, nicotine, insect repellent, pain relievers and medicines needed to control seizures.
Among the more traditional pollutants in the lakes such as nitrates and phosphates, initial results of the testing indicated relatively low concentrations of each.
The results of the testing left the Advisory Committee with little support for the installation of an expensive sewer system, particularly if that system could potentially address only part of the contamination problem.
"The testing raised more questions than it answered," said committee Chairman Jack Petropoulos at the committee's Jan. 23 meeting.

HomeThangs.com the Online Home Improvement Store has made their goal to deliver the right product to the consumer. With that in mind, shopping and home design tips, as well as special product selections are being introduced.
Many of the most significant 2014 bathroom trends are ones that might sound a little familiar, as quite a few have been gaining traction for the last few years. That said, a lot of the suggested features of yesteryear have become major must-haves for any large scale remodel in 2014, while other trends have continued to evolve in interesting ways. HomeThangs.com has introduced a guide to some of the most important bathroom trends for 2014, as well as whats changed since last year.
Black, gray, and other neutrals are the go-to colors for the bathroom in 2014. High contrast black and white bathrooms with a chic, glamorous look (including patterned wallpaper and lots of fabric accents) are popular in the guest bathroom, while a softer grayscale look, mixing matte finished tile and subdued blue-gray concrete tones are more popular in the master bath.
Asian inspired bathrooms are shaping up to be especially popular as well, combining the sleek, simple lines of a minimalist modern design with a warm, relaxing touch of nature reminiscent of high end spas. Look to keep bathroom fixtures simple and relatively spare, opting for wide open spaces, lots of natural light, and a few live plants like orchids or bamboo.
Surprisingly, wood is starting to become a prominent feature in bathroom design. Wood floors, wood shower floors, barn beams, and unpainted wood paneled walls are all highly desirable features this year and give a bathroom that warm, earthy, slightly rustic quality that homeowners are really looking for. Glass is just as popular as it was last year, if not moreso: frameless shower doors, big windows, and single-sheet backpainted glass tile all contribute to a bathroom looking bright, open, airy, and just a little bit modern.
Water saving fixtures of all kinds are becoming a must have in new bathroom renovations, and are more efficient and more effective than ever, from aerated shower heads and automatic faucets to low-flow, dual-flush toilets.
Showers will continue to reign supreme in 2014, and are only getting larger and more elaborate. Custom showers with multiple shower heads that put out lots of water are still a popular luxury option, but slightly more eco-friendly steam showers are starting to gain an edge, both for their spa-like high tech luxury and their lower operating cost. Showers are becoming more open as well, using frameless glass shower doors or no doors at all and going curb-free to create that relaxed, wide-open spa like feel.
Some homeowners are dismissing bathtubs entirely in favor of larger and larger showers, but many more are turning to unique looking freestanding bathtubs instead. Classic clawfoots and more modern freestanding tubs have a beautiful sculptural quality and work beautifully as a focal point for the space when placed in the center of the bathroom.
Customized storage and features are becoming more popular in 2014 as homeowners seek to maximize functionality while downsizing the size of their bathrooms. Features like recessed niche shelves, pull out cabinets, and built in night lights all make a bathroom more functional by making better use of the existing space.

Community Board 10 approved Artimus Constructions proposal Wednesday to rezone St. Nicholas Avenue between 117th and 118th streets on Wednesday night, in return for the developers promise to transform a historic church on the block into a community art space.
The boards original plan to build a residential development on St. Nicholas Avenue ran afoul due to zoning restrictions that would limit its permitted height, making the 12-story building Artimus Construction envisioned an impossibility.
But at the meeting on Wednesday, Artimus representatives came before CB10 with a compromise: If the zoning regulations were changed, Artimus could use the income from the additional residential units to fund the preservation of St. Thomas the Apostle Churchlocated at West 118th Street and St. Nicholas Avenueand the redevelopment of St. Thomas the Apostle School that shares the block. Both the church and the school are currently closed.
The new development will have 80 percent market-rate housing and 20 percent affordable housing, as well as a studio for Millennium Dance Company on the ground floor.
Calling St. Thomass current condition desanctified, Melanie Meyers, an attorney for Artimus, said that using the renovated church as an affordable rental space for art groups would be a great asset for the community.
Artimus has been actively involved in the West Harlem community for a while and is involved with several new developments in the area, including the site of a former BP gas station at 110th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, which Artimus plans to redevelop into a housing and retail complex.
We see this as a very important structure of the community, Ken Haron, president of Artimus, said of St. Thomas. We were afraid that some other people would just demolish it.
But, according to Haron, the church renovation is contingent on the block being rezoned.
We have to have the income from other things, Haron said, referring to the extra apartment units the proposed change would allow.
On Jan. 30, Artimus held an open house at the church to present the project and hear from community members. Among those present were theater professionals and nonprofit organizations, all of whom were invited to take the microphone and share their ideas in front of coordinators, architects, and others involved in the renovation of the church.
