On the whole, teenagers are not widely recognized for their conscientious and caring attitude towards their families and tend to take a more carefree approach towards life, as opposed to the mindful and mature attitude of their older peers.
When it comes to home safety for those who have teenagers living at home, or even employ teenage babysitters to look after younger children, there are a few hints and tips that can be followed in order to ensure that home safety is carried out properly within the household.
The guide, penned by a home safety professional, covers many topics. Common sense can often slip to the back of the mind of a busy person when the rigmarole of everyday life takes over; it is easy to forget to lock a window before bed, but its a dangerous mistake that can cause ructions further down the line. The tip sheet will refresh the mind and bring home safety back into the forefront of the consumer's mind.
Many families will understand that leaving teenagers at home can sometimes leave the home a little more vulnerable to issues; their guard tends to be down more than an adult and whilst it may be frustrating, by covering every potential problem before leaving a teen alone ultimately eliminates potential problems.
With input from consumers who have teenagers at home themselves, offering advice, solutions and tips, the guide is a sure fire way for people to learn about practices that can be applied to their own homes in order to keep their security and safety in the best order possible, whether the angst ridden adolescent is over the threshold or not.
Senior Editor at BestHomeAlarmSystemsReviews.com Mike Bristow said: At BestHomeAlarmSystemsReviews.com we understand that having one or multiple teenagers in the family home can be testing for a number of reasons, let alone because they can be sloppy in their approach to ensuring that their abode is safe and secure."

By implementing the guidance given, consumers will be able to leave their homes safe in the knowledge that they have covered every base in regards to the safety and security of the household, and may even be able to pass some of the knowledge onto the teenager themselves."

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 UTAH) - Every 15 seconds a home is burglarized in the United States. Sadly, according to national statistic only 15 percent of those cases get solved. The Unified Police Department says it averages just over three cases per day.
ABC 4 Utah wants to help you protect your home. So, we sat down with a man who went to jail for burglarizing homes and we spoke to police and a home security expert to find out what all of us can do.
Josh Clawson says "There were times I went into places and... you grab a laundry basket and fill the laundry basket... a little personal safe that was in one of the drawers. And I took a couple TVs. And that was it."
Clawson got away with most of his home burglaries, but the law eventually caught up with him and he spent five years in prison. He has been out 11 years, no longer steals, he's a contractor and a family man. Clawson agreed to talk to us as as way to try to make up for his past and to help home owners learn how burglars think and how they can stop them before they strike.
Clawson says most burglars "go in and fill it up as fast as they can fill it up." He says in a matter of minutes a thief can load up your valuables and be gone. Clawson says many home owners make it too easy for home burglars. "I think a lot of time people don't lock the door behind them." "They leave a window open for ventilation." And he says when people do things like buy a safe - they don't make it safe. "They have bolt holes in them - bolt them down. No one is going to take the time to pull that up. Especially when you are trying to get in and out."
Clawson says too many people also believe their neighbors offer protection. "You put it in a laundry basket and throw a sheet on it and who is going to think or care if somebody is taking a load of laundry to the car?" And he says people make it obvious they are not home, by posting their vacation on Facebook or leaving the same lights on or off day after day. "Don't get into the routine of leaving a hall light on every week." He adds that valuables, like jewelry, are so often in the same place no matter whose house you break into. "People are not going to go through a jewelry box. They are just going to take the entire jewelry box."
So, what can we do to better protect our property and reduce our risk? First, Clawson says you need to understand sometimes a burglar will just "...pull in the driveway like you belong there. Walk around back like you know what you are doing. Open the back door." The former home burglar says some homes are easy targets. "Put it in a laundry basket, put a sheet on it. Put it in the truck and drove away."
Corey Green - with Total Protection home security - wants to prevent your home from being an easy target. "This security system is nice because it is going to cover all my doors and windows. So, if someone approaches my house sirens are going to off. This unit is going to call a central station it's also going to send me a text message."
And police say those texts messages can help them respond and catch the burglars in the act. Lt. Justin Hoyal with Unified Police says "There's a lot of things out on the market today that will help people get alerts and then they can call us and we can get over a lot more quickly."
A security system can't stop every home burglar, but Green says it's one of the best deterrents. "If you have yard signs, window stickers, someone sees you have an alarm they go bother someone else." And if you add cameras - both Green and Clawson say you just added another layer of protection. Clawson says "That would deter me. I would probably just keep walking." And Green says "Even if all that doesn't stop someone - it should move them along."

When Susan Stompe of Novato finishes a load of laundry, she flips a switch and the leftover water is pumped to a drip system that irrigates her garden of multiflora, tea, climbing and miniature roses, wasting not a drop.
Stompe isn't the only Marin resident who has come up with innovative ways to save water that go beyond ordinary devices such as low-flow toilets. As drought engulfs Marin and water rationing looms, there's much to learn from Stompe and others like her.
While people in the county are conservation-minded anyway, an unprecedented drought has made saving water even more important. Water rationing requiring a 25 percent cut will be imposed on most Marin residents April 1, unless the heavens open in the interim, Krishna Kumar, head of the Marin Municipal Water District, said last week.
Stompe, who is on the Marin Conservation League board of directors and well-known for her environmental activities, didn't need an outside mandate to start saving water. She and her husband Brian have had their washing machine system in place for two years now.
"The other thing we do is to take baths instead of showers, and we water our trees with the bath water," Stompe said. "We have a tube that comes out of our upstairs and goes down to the back yard." Lightly used water like bath water is also known as "graywater."
Stompe's setup was simple and easy to create, she said.
"It's not out of the reach of most people. It's low-tech and not expensive," Stompe said. "The tube attaches to a brick that is in an old sock, so it doesn't scratch the tub," Stompe said.
The brick holds the tube underwater, and Stompe and her husband use a hand pump to get the water flowing into the tube.
"We measured to see how long the tube would have to be, then went to the hardware store and got the tube and a pump. Just a couple of pumps and the water gets going, and you set the pump aside to let the siphon do its thing. The entire setup cost less than $100," Stompe said.

IONIA, Mich. A convicted killer who peeled a hole in two fences with his hands to escape from a Michigan prison before abducting a woman and fleeing to Indiana was captured Monday evening after a chase, authorities said.
Officials were stunned by the brazen escape Sunday night of Michael David Elliot, who had a record of good behavior during his 20 years in custody. He wore a white civilian kitchen uniform to evade security and blend in with snow at the Ionia Correctional Facility in western Michigan, prisons spokesman Russ Marlan said.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Ron Galaviz said Elliot was captured in LaPorte County after a police chase.
That chase began after authorities there got a report of a vehicle stolen from a factory in the city of LaPorte, said sheriffs Maj. John Boyd. A deputy who happened to be nearby spotted the vehicle within a few seconds, Major Boyd said.
Authorities chased the vehicle through the city and into a rural area of Kankakee Township several miles away, where law enforcement used stop sticks to disable it.
Major Boyd said Elliot was arrested and taken to the LaPorte County Jail.
How Elliot was able to get out of the Ionia prison remains unclear. Fences were equipped with motion sensors to alert guards. The fences also carry electric current to shock anyone that touches them.
It appears that did not happen. ... He was not zapped with electricity, and he was not picked up by the motion sensors, Mr. Marlan said.

IONIA, Mich. (AP) - A convicted killer who peeled a hole in two fences with his hands to escape from a Michigan prison before abducting a woman and fleeing to Indiana was captured Monday evening, authorities said.
Ron Galaviz said Elliot was in LaPorte County, Ind. when a sheriff's deputy investigating a vehicle theft tried to make a traffic stop. The suspect ran, but authorities were able to capture him.
Fences at the Ionia prison were equipped with motion sensors to alert guards. The fences also carry electric current to shock anyone that touches them.
"It appears that did not happen. ... He was not zapped with electricity, and he was not picked up by the motion sensors," Marlan said.
Once outside the prison, Elliot, 40, abducted a woman and stole her Jeep. The woman, who was not hurt, escaped late Sunday when he stopped for gas in Middlebury, Ind., some 100 miles to the south. The woman's red Jeep was found abandoned nearby in Shipshewana on Monday.
At least one school was locked down, residents were warned to stay inside and officers went door-to-door in the area.
An alert was issued to law enforcement nationwide. The woman told police that Elliot was armed with a box cutter and a hammer and had said he wanted to get as far from the Michigan prison as possible.
"We had dog teams. We had a helicopter from the state police," said Michigan Corrections Department Director Dan Heyns. "The response was good, but he'd left the area by the time we were mobilized totally 100 percent. It didn't take him long to get down to Indiana. ... His flight path now has expanded dramatically."
Nothing in Elliot's record suggested he might escape, said Heyns, who added, "This is entirely a one-man operation."
