President Condemns 'Borderization' - February 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

President Margvelashvili said on February 26 that completely senseless process of erecting barbed wire fences by the Russian troops across breakaway South Ossetias administrative boundary line aims at maintaining conflict and keeping divided communities further apart.

Margvelashvili told journalists while visiting Kvareli in eastern region of Kakheti that he plans to visit Shida Kartli region to meet locals affected by ongoing borderisation process.

We see resumption of completely senseless activity involving placing of barbed wire fences, Margvelashvili said. These barbed wire fences have no strategic military purpose whatsoever. This is an action definitely directly against the people against those people who want to see and meet each other beyond barbed wire fences.

I want to call on the international community to raise voice together with us against this completely illegal action. This is the action directed towards complicating the conflict; without these barbed wire fences we can find each other and reach out to each other. These fences are placed only for the purpose of maintaining the conflict, the Georgian President said and added that placing obstacles across the administrative boundary line represents yet another crime and violation of the international law by Russia.

This is an ongoing action directed against de-escalation of the conflict and directed towards preventing people from finding common language, Margvelashvili said.

Suthep sorry for verbal attacks on police - February 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

National Police chief Pol General Adul Saengsingkaew met four representatives of the Peoples Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) yesterday afternoon and promised to speed up investigations into the deaths of children at rally sites.

Adul met the four representatives inside the Royal Thai Police compound after rally chief Suthep Thaugsuban led protesters who wore black to mourn the deaths of the children to rally there at 10am. Suthep demanded that police speed up their investigations and arrest the attackers whose actions led to the deaths of the four children - two in Bangkok and two in Trat.

Suthep read a statement from the back of a six-wheel truck parked outside the police headquarters, saying police had initially used harsh tactics against the protesters but later changed their methods to comply with the Civil Court's order. Suthep then apologised for his verbal attacks against police.

He could not meet with Adul himself because the PDRC leader has an arrest warrant hanging over his head. The PDRC was thus represented by Chaiwuti Bannawat, Sakoltee Phatthiyakul, Taya Teepsuwan and Chitpas Kridakorn. Adul promised that police would do their best to investigate cases of political violence.

He also asked the four representatives to tell the PDRC to allow police to inspect the scenes at rally sites when violence occurs. He said police were always blocked by security guards from entering the rally sites.

The PDRC protesters said they were happy that Adul came out in person to receive the demands from the four representatives.

The protesters left the front of the Royal Thai Police compound at 1.20pm.

Northvale mayor on trial for official misconduct, other charges - February 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

PATERSON - As the trial of Northvale Mayor Paul Bazela and Anthony Ardis enters its second week in state Superior Court, attorneys for Bazela and his co-defendant found themselves dueling with one another as much as the prosecution.

    VIOREL FLORESCU/THE RECORD

Northvale Mayor Paul Bazela at state Superior Court in Paterson on Feb. 19. The mayor is charged with official misconduct for allegedly using company workers and resources to perform odd jobs for Anthony Ardis's family and friends.

    VIOREL FLORESCU/THE RECORD

Paterson resident Anthony Ardis, a former supervisor with the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission, in state Superior Court on Feb. 19.

The two allegedly used carpenters and electricians of the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission for personal projects at Ardis' mother's and girlfriend's homes while both were employed by the commission between January 2007 and December 2009. At the time, Bazela served as foreman of the carpentry shop, while Ardis was second in command of the agency as well as its ethics violations officer.

Bazela faces two counts each of second-degree conspiracy, second-degree official misconduct, second-degree pattern of official misconduct, and third-degree theft by unlawful taking or disposition. If convicted, he will have to resign as mayor of Northvale.

Bazela's defense strategy focused on establishing him as following Ardis' orders.

In his opening statement, Bazela's attorney, Peter Willis, alleged that Ardis "ordered, told, commanded" Bazela to perform the work because he was "too cheap."

Gregory Aprile, representing Ardis, has meanwhile focused his defense strategy on two fronts: alleging that Bazela, not Ardis, was the direct individual who gave the orders to the carpenters and electrician who allegedly did the work; and undermining the credibility of the witnesses by pointing out vagueness or contradictions in their previous testimony to the attorney general, the Grand Jury, and in interviews with Wayne Forest, executive director of the sewerage commission.

Ukraine: revolutionaries take the place of police on Kiev's streets - February 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Andreiy and his comrades keep watch for buses packed with "tituskhi" - the young criminals hired by the old regime to harass protesters. "If we see a suspicious vehicle, we take the registration number and contact the revolutionaries in the centre of Kiev and ask them to stop it. If they call us and tell us to stop a car, then we do," he said.

Andreiy also enforces good behaviour at a nearby junction, although elsewhere in Kiev a few traffic police have reappeared. "If somebody crosses a red light, we say 'please don't do that'. We can't make them pay anything, but we just warn them," he said.

Whether all the revolutionaries are so restrained is open to question. But Ukraine's police were so notorious for taking bribes that few miss their absence.

The revolutionaries, meanwhile, have shown their ability to enforce order.

The area of central Kiev which they have controlled for months is packed with expensive shops, including branches of Gucci and Louis Vuitton. These businesses have closed their doors, but their windows are unbroken and there is no visible sign of looting.

Anna Grygorenko, who serves at a jewellery counter in Komod shopping centre, had no qualms about placing a glittering array of earrings and necklaces on display. "We had the revolution because there was no law and people wanted to control the police. There was no trust in the police - people were afraid of them," she said.

"So it's the opposite: if we don't have police and people try to control things themselves, it makes me feel safer."

ThinkGlass Offers New Challenges to the Glass Treads Industry - February 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    (PRWEB) February 26, 2014

Unattractive lamination lines in glass treads are now no more. Thanks to the a brand new line of treads from ThinkGlass, and the cutting-edge innovation of their unique polished-edges, glass treads can finally show the real beauty of pure glass.

For years, the standard for glass treads was to glue together layers of glass, leaving an unsightly visible gap between the glass layers. Filled with glue, these gaps tarnish the beauty of pure glass edges. ThinkGlass is now changing all that by implementing a new thermoforming technique that fuses together the layers of glass, rather than simply gluing them.

Glass Treads can be sized and shaped to fit any space, from a dramatic grand glass staircase to a compact spiral design. Customers have the option of selecting staircases made entirely of glass treads, or one that is simply accented with a few glass steps. The glass treads can range from 1.5 to 4 thick, and can be complemented with LED lights to make them even more spectacular.

Glass is strong and durable. In fact, glass treads that are at least 1.5-inches thick are up to three times stronger than granite or stone, and they can bear a load of 1800 lbs. at the center of a 36 wide tread. All ThinkGlass treads pass mandated strength requirement testing and are laminated on the underside with an invisible safety film for extra security. ThinkGlass brand glass steps are also slip resistant. An embedded texture provides an anti-skid surface that is scratch-proof and resists any smudges or streaks. ThinkGlass glass stair treads exceed current standards for "coefficient of friction" requirements as specified by ASTM section c1028, Underwriters Laboratories UL-410, and ADA.

Glass is a pure and noble material. There is simply no other product that can rival its natural beauty and luminescence. Also, glass is an eco-friendly option: glass is a natural material made from sand and minerals and is fully recyclable. Installation is cleaner, faster and produces less waste than traditional cement or drywall construction. Glass allows natural light to flow throughout a space, reducing overall energy costs, and provides soothing views of the outdoors.

Glass treads are radon free, have no negative impact on air quality, and qualify for points under LEED and NAHB building guidelines. ThinkGlass also uses eco-friendly production practices with a strong commitment to sustainability and good working conditions.

About THINKGLASS The ThinkGlass story began in 1999 in an empty room under the leadership of two creative individuals who were passionate about beautiful glasswork. Today, the company is one of the most successful glass design and manufacturing studios in the world with a shop that encompasses more than 30,000 square feet, 27 employees and 21 state-of-the-art, custom made ovens.

ThinkGlass is still headed by its two original founders glass master Michel Mailhot who is the artistic soul of the company, and Bertrand Charest, a certified engineer and company president. Together with their talented team, they produce all manners of glass masterpieces, from residential kitchen to bathroom vanity countertops and backsplashes to fantastical sculptures, wall murals and floor tiles, and even large-scale commercial projects for restaurants, nightclubs and offices.

ThinkGlass quickly became a leader in the thermoforming industry by pioneering a versatile technique that allows the creation of new or repetitive textures. This process allows the creation of glass slabs without thickness constraints opening the door to all kinds of design possibilities. All ThinkGlass creations are made from 100% recyclable glass using sustainable practices and without the use of any adhesive or sealant potentially containing harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
