Who wants to see handyman Juan Pablo in action? The Bachelor star is taking requests for in-home repairs for Rochester Appliance, but in a series of new commercials.
PHOTOS: Meet Juan Pablo's bachelorettes
The upstate New York business has enlisted the hunky Venezuelan reality star for a series of four ads, which will debut during the final episodes of the latest season of The Bachelor. The first spot, which aired locally and online last week, featured the former soccer player dressed as an employee, greeting two shocked women as they peruse the store.

Galavis' second commercial for Rochester Appliance aired Monday night. In it, he is shown, overwhelmed by the deluge of in-home repair requests, made specifically for the reality star by eager customers. Rochester Appliance wrote on its blog Monday night, "Juan may be a little busy. We have many other well trained, handsome technicians if youre interested."

So how exactly did the Bachelor go from roses to refrigerators? The spots were actually filmed in the store back in December while visiting some college friends, as a favor for a close pal. Dean Eaton, who owns Rochester Appliance, told the L.A. Times he approached the reality star because the two shared a close connection: Eaton's brother-in-law happened to play soccer with Galavis at Roberts Wesleyan College.

"When I found out Juan was the next Bachelor I immediately contacted him and asked him to be in commercials for my small business," Eaton told the paper. Galavis, who was compensated for starring in the spots, still did "a huge favor" for Rochester Appliance.
"We are a very small store in Rochester, N.Y.," Eaton said. "Juan just put us on the map."

LOWER HEIDELBERG TWP., Pa. -
The remnants of an apartment building under construction in Berks County continued to burn Wednesday morning, more than 24 hours after a fire reduced the structure to rubble.
Small flames and smoke could be seen rising from the snow-covered ashes at the Legacy at Papermill apartment complex -- an over-55 community -- in Lower Heidelberg Township.
The initial fire broke out early Tuesday morning and quickly went to three alarms as flames engulfed the wooden frame of the structure, which was being constructed next to an already-occupied building.
No one was injured.
Investigators returned to the scene Wednesday in search for what sparked the inferno. A state police fire marshal is assisting in the probe.
Fire officials said the blaze caused about estimated $2 million in damage. The owner of the property told 69 News he will rebuild.

Construction of a long-awaited retail and apartment redevelopment in downtown Tinley Park could get underway in the spring.
Developer Bob Hansen is working to sew up financing for his Boulevard at Central Station, which will include 167 apartments and businesses, such as restaurants, at street level, according to his lawyer, David Sosin. He said Hansen is finalizing his deal, more or less, and anticipates breaking ground soon.
The five-story Boulevard building is planned for a triangular piece of land at South Street and 67th Court, directly south of the Oak Park Avenue Metra station.
First approved in summer 2012, the project has languished, in part because of tight lending restrictions on commercial projects.
Although similar in some respects to the 295-unit Ninety 7 Fifty on the Park apartment building in Orland Park, that project was largely financed by that village.
Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki said village officials have been kept updated on efforts by Hansen to nail down financing, and that it looks good.

Restaurant patios open to midnight -
February 27, 2014 by

Vancouver restaurants with outdoor patios on city streets will be allowed to extend their opening hours under a pilot program approved by city council Wednesday. Under the terms restaurants that have no complaints in the previous 12 months will be allowed to keep the patios open until midnight, from April to October. It affects restaurants operating 277 small and 316 large patios. The pilot is part of a plan by the city to modernize its street-vending bylaw. The bylaw also includes banning the sub-lease of permits and locations to other vendors. Last month the city became aware that nearly one-third of the 110 stationary food vending permits it had recently issued through a lottery system were being sub-leased by the original applicants to other vendors. In some cases, the licences, which cost $1,100, were being re-rented for $10,000 a year.

Long Island, New York (PRWEB) February 26, 2014
JM Pressure Washing, a Manorville-based provider of pressure washing and exterior cleaning needs to the Long Island community, is expecting that the harsh winter that the Northeast is currently experiencing will have residual effects on the exterior or properties if they are not cleaned properly.
With three severe storms hitting the Long Island area since the beginning of 2014, the homes and businesses that make up the Nassau and Suffolk Communities have been battered with snow, sleet and wind all combining to cause sub-zero temperatures. Combine precipitation and sub-zero temperatures and ice is the by-product, covering roads and other passageways with ice. Once all the shoveling is done the ice is treated with liberal applications of rock salt and other ice melting chemicals. While these ice melting solutions do eliminate the ice the residue they leave behind can cause damage to cement and other paving surfaces. Foot traffic through these areas and onto wooden porches and decks around residences help to spread these highly corrosive materials where, over time, they will break down the surfaces they are on causing costly damage.
For commercial properties that are close to roadways or have parking lots and loading docks where trucks and cars pass through in high volume, the slush and snow on the ground that rock salt or sand has been spread on can become airborne. While the splashed snow and slush will met, the sand and rock salt will remain on the surfaces of the buildings with the same corrosive effects that they have on pavements and passageways. Left unchecked and un-cleaned, the corrosive nature of rock salt and other ice melting chemicals can break down the integrity of pavements and parking lots causing unsafe conditions for foot traffic. These unsafe conditions could lead to costly personal injury lawsuits that could have been avoided with proper cleaning of the surfaces that are impacted.
For these reasons, the team at JM Pressure Washing is advising that residential and commercial property owners should prepare to have thorough power washing done of the entire exterior surface around their properties once the spring comes. Professional power washing, using the latest in technology and cleaning solutions, can help to remove the dangerous residues left behind from dealing with winter weather issues. Additionally, a professional power washing company like JM Pressure Washing has the experience and knowledge to understand how invasive these corrosive ice treatments can be and the necessity of cleaning every intricate crack and crevice to ensure that they are completely removed.
JM Pressure Washing was founded over 10 years ago as a subsidiary of our well established company, Color Brite Painting. By working in the home construction industry for more than 35 years, we saw the need to create a separate company to tailor to the specific pressure washing needs of commercial and residential properties throughout Long Island. Starting with basic pressure washing of home/business exteriors and deck re-finishing , we have expanded our services to include full service deck restoration, roof and gutter cleaning, concrete cleaning, window cleaning, complete house washing as well as our commercial services including fleet washing, facility cleaning and graffiti removal. Located in Manorville, New York, we are a locally-owned small business serving the entire Long Island Community.

At Mobile World Congress, a preview of a central way to manage washing machines, parking meters, and glucose sensors.
According to booth-manning reps at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, IBM is announcing an Internet of Things Cloud with free enrollment of the first 10 connected gadgetswhether washing machines or parking meters. Its the kind of teaser more closely associated with, say, file storage on Dropbox. While this IoT Cloud will be for businesses, it will provide tools for those businesses to write apps for ordinary folks, such as for health-monitoring and home-management systems.
Such offerings stand a strong chance of massively accelerating the arrival of the ubiquitous computing era, with examples on display throughout the cavernous conference halls in Barcelona.
The Connected City section gives a visceral sense of what this era will be like, and the deep involvement of major carriers and IT companies in making it happen. City is just part of the story, with systems to tie together emergency reports, infrastructure sensors, and even parking meters. Major automakers from Volvo to GM are showing off connected cars, with the latest systems for avoiding crashes, helping drivers, and delivering information from home and office with platforms such as AT&T Drive. And so on, through a litany of home, health, and educational applications. Korea Telecoms display bristles with the wireless systems enabling it all. Elsewhere a man rode a stationary bike with a wireless glucose sensor taped to his arm and a wireless heart monitor taped to his chest, his vital statistics displayed on a nearby screen. He was doing this in behalf of the telecom Orange, which makes the back-end system.
Such visions have been around for many years. But the displays and talks in Barcelona, and interviews with major technology executives (see Nokia CTO on How the Company Will Reinvent Itself), shows just how fast all this is coming. Sensors and processing power are now extremely cheap, and the wireless infrastructure is increasingly in place. But there are some major barriers from here: making sure these systems stay secure, are easy to adopt, and truly add value. But just as free e-mail services made e-mail ubiquitous and services like Dropbox made cloud storage easy, IBMs Internet of Things Cloud and other such services stand a strong chance of doing the same. Just a few clicks, and youve registered your devices, and started getting analytics and management dashboards and tools for everyday users. As one rep told me, there will be no hurdles for quick startup.
