White LED Lighting features ballast bypass installation. - March 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

New Berlin, Wis., USA EMTEQ is introducing the 3X Series, a new standard for white wash lighting for corporate cabin upgrades. In addition to enhanced performance, the 3X Series represents an easier way to upgrade to LED lighting through a unique bypass installation option.

Capitalizing on technology perfected and proven on several current line-fit programs, the 3X Series uses cutting edge LED and lens technology. The new-aged LED is hyper-efficient with incredible color consistency and unmatched color blending. Furthering the color quality, EMTEQ is using a next generation lens that creates a homogeneous output while not diminishing the intensity of the light. The wider beam spread of the light gives the cabin a fuller appearance.

Over 10 years ago, EMTEQ jumpstarted the transition to LED lighting aboard executive aircraft with the introduction of the ELW30, a product with over 2300 orders. stated Peter Tessmann, Product Manager for the 3X Series. Keeping our customers who know and love the ELW30 in mind, we have done that again with the introduction of the 3X Series.

The most significant advantage to the 3X Series is the installation flexibility. The 3X Series can be installed as either a minor modification or as part of a full modification.

Not all LED lighting is the same and now EMTEQ has provided an option where you no longer have to sacrifice the quality of the light and color consistency to achieve low downtime and lower cost, stated Tessmann.

While you can opt to remove the ballasts and power supplies, saving on weight in the aircraft, it is not necessary to install the 3X Series. The light has a regulated power supply which allows it to deliver steady light output when operating directly off of 28VDC aircraft power. The installation uses existing wiring bypassing the ballasts eliminating them as a failure point in lighting systems.

Right now there is a curiosity towards an LED light that can run off the ballast and be a drop-in solution. The problem with this is that over time the ballast can become damaged because of the way fluorescent tubes interact with them, explained Tessmann. With a failure of these new systems, you do not know if it is the light or ballast until you dig a little deeper. And worse yet, the ballast are often remote from the light source. The 3X Series bypasses the ballast eliminating that as a failure point.

The 3X Series line includes built in step dimming and variable dimming options. The 3X Series is also designed with compatibilities to the ELW30 for the ease of existing customers. It will utilize the same mounting clips eliminating the need to change clip inventory or learn new install methods. The 3X Series will also offer expanded length and color options.

Improvements to Wheelchair Lift by Butler Mobility Products - March 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Lewisberry, PA (PRWEB) March 17, 2014

To make installation easier, Butler Mobility has added a modular plug to the control tube wiring assembly in the power unit of all wheelchair lifts. One plug replaces the 8 separate wire nuts and wire connections. No more wasting time matching the different colored wires. Just use the plug and jack already installed and its done.

No more calling the factory for wiring schematics and diagrams. A copy of the wiring diagram is in a sealed pouch inside the power unit cover. The company has also attached a quick view wiring diagram to the top plate inside of the power unit. This makes troubleshooting any potential wiring problems much easier, faster, and more reliable. Updated pictures and diagrams in the Installation Guide make it easier to test the lift during the installation process.

Wheelchair lift passengers can now recover from the platform over travel directly from the control arm joystick on the platform. The new procedure eliminates the need to move back and forth from the top landing call button to the platform to back down form over-travel. The wheelchair lift will be stopped by the over-travel switch if the upper limit switch fails to operate. Opening the over-travel switch renders the lift inoperative until the failure is corrected; one option is to press the platform emergency stop and then hold the joystick down for 10 seconds. The platform will travel slightly downward until the over-travel switch closes or for a maximum of one second. Normal operation may then be resumed by twisting and pulling the platform E-stop switch out.

Contact your installer/service technician immediately for evaluation and service. The new instructions are in the updated Butler Mobility User Guide.

ICE house - March 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

About a mile away from a high school in Camarillo, in an industrial park surrounded by businesses, is an unmarked yellow building.

A four-lane road separates it from a large neighborhood of upscale family homes, where children ride scooters and dogs walk the lawns.

The buildings arches, roofing and ironwork invoke Spanish Mediterranean architecture; a water fountain gurgles to the right of the front door.

Its quiet outside, and crops grow in fields to the south and east.

The building is home to one of 14 Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices in the state. Inside, doors require key cards, some employees wear guns and cells are monitored by security cameras.

Like a similar facility planned in Santa Maria, the Camarillo ICE office acts as a transfer station for convicted, undocumented immigrants. It consolidated two separate offices that, since the 1990s, were located in a business area on the west side of the city.

Unlike the Santa Maria facility, however, it opened on Cortez Circle in February with no controversy.

ICE Assistant Field Office Director Raymond Kovacic said most of the office work takes place on the second floor of the two-story building a maze of cubicles and break rooms that sport NFL logos showing employees loyalties and white boards listing needed office supplies. The first floor is mostly holding cells.

Its a center for processing merely (bringing people) in and out, said Bob Naranjo, also an assistant field office director.

Plaistow police now armed with firing range site plan - March 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

PLAISTOW For more than a quarter century, the police department has been working on upgrades to its firing range and tactical training center on Wilder Drive near the towns highway garage.

It was just earlier this month, however, that the planning board approved a site plan for the project.

Police Chief Stephen Savage said the formal approved site plan will accomplish a number of things as work continues on the firing range, including making sure the police department continues to use best environmental practices at the shooting range.

Up until now, Savage said there had been no formal process for work on the firing range other than going before selectmen. Now, any future work will require the approval of the planning board or building inspector.

This is formalizing our relationship, the way it should be, Savage told the planning board.

The history of the firing range goes back to the 1980s, when selectmen approved use of part of the former town dump by the police department.

Over the following years, the department worked to clean up the site, and the past several years have seen a flurry of activity at the range as it has become a training site for outside agencies as well as the Plaistow Police Department.

It has been our dream to have a permanent place that is properly supported and appropriately built, said Savage.

Several years ago, the police department added a permanent structure at the range, and last year it added an overhang for the structure.

Savage said all the work has been paid for either through donations or from asset forfeiture money.

SMART halts plans to chop rare tree - March 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Prue Draper, left, of the Cotati Historical Society and Louise Santero, a longtime Cotati resident, stand next to a rare chimeric coast redwood tree near the railroad track at East Cotati Avenue in Cotati.

A rare chimeric coast redwood in Cotati will be spared the ax, at least for now, after Sonoma-Marin rail officials bowed to public opposition Thursday and suspended the planned removal of the tree to make way for train tracks.

Tom Stapleton, a former Sonoma County arborist who now works in Amador County, raised concerns about the loss of the unusual tree which could be one of only a handful of coast redwoods known to be in existence that exhibit both albino and normal foliage on the same branches.

SMART had scheduled the tree for removal, possibly within the month, saying its location violates Federal Railroad Administration regulations governing the safe operation of its planned commuter train.

Stapleton's concerns, outlined Wednesday in a Press Democrat story, went national drawing calls from news media across the country, along with offers to help from other arborists and ordinary tree lovers.

Supporters of the effort also started a Cotati Redwood Facebook page.

On Thursday afternoon, Farhad Mansourian, SMART's general manager, said he had suspended the removal plans.

I wanted to pause and make sure we do the right thing for the community and the environment, Mansourian said. We are a big part of the community and we have extreme care with our environment, and we want to make sure we do the right thing.

Everything comes to a halt with this tree removal until we bring in additional experts.

People behind the effort to save the tree welcomed the move.

St. Charles library to close next week - March 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

ST. CHARLES The St. Charles Public Library will be closed during its renovation project, beginning Monday and continuing through March 28, according to a news release.

The library, 1 S. Sixth Ave., St. Charles, is scheduled to reopen at 9 a.m. March 29. The closure will include removal of asbestos that the construction crew found in the vinyl composite tile in the Reference/Info Commons area on the librarys ground floor, according to the release.

The tiles are underneath the carpet in the reference area, and neither the public nor the library staff were exposed to the asbestos, Library Director Pam Leffler said.

Its not uncommon ... for this type of material to be found because it was used so prevalently in construction in the past, Leffler said of the asbestos. We just want to make sure were dealing with it in the most responsible manner.

The asbestos was found in an area that was added to the library in 1964. The area was sealed off after the discovery, all renovation work in that section stopped and the tile was tested to be certain asbestos was there, Leffler said.

The actual tiles in question were not disturbed or broken, which is further evidence that this asbestos did not harm anyone, Leffler said.

The librarys computer lab, which is next to the Reference area, still is open and will remain so through Sunday. The standing-only computer terminals right outside the lab will likely be removed by the end of today, Leffler said.

The librarys ongoing renovation project began in February and will include new carpeting in the Carnegie Meeting Room and mezzanine level, additional computer work stations, furniture replacement and retrofitting lights.

Due dates for library materials checked out from now until Monday have an extended loan period and will not be due until the library reopens. Any fines accrued for items due during that week will be waived, the release said.

During the closing, books and media items borrowed from the library may be returned using any of the librarys four outdoor book drop locations.
