AJ Odudu's blog: doing the Brutal10 mudstacle and raising money for Sport Relief - March 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

This week was all about extremes. First, I took to the decks in a North London bar, The Driver, to do an exclusive DJ set for a private party until the early hours of the morning. I played all things poptastic from Madonna to Jason Durulo, Kylie Minogue to Miley Cyrus. Song of the night? Gypsy Woman by Crystal Waters. Went down a treat.

No rest for the wicked as I rose at 6am to take part in my first ever mudstacle, Brutal10. The clue was in the title; it was incredibly tough. I was wading through deep swamps, crawling up steep hills, splashing through water, running on sand it was non-stop torture with battle wounds to prove. Im talking blisters, scratches, bruises, the lot! I surprisingly had loads of fun though and documented the whole event so keep an eye on my channel to see the full works, http://www.youtube.com/ajodudu.

At this point I ought to have gone to bed but after a quick change of gym wear, I popped on my lightweight Reebok kicks and headed to a Reebok Fithub to help raise money for Sports Relief by running on a treadmill for an hour, with members of the public cheering me on and watching me sweat. It was wonderful to be taking part for such a great cause and help raise 24,000. Theres still time to donate! Visit http://www.sportrelief.com for details.

I knew I was going to have a hectic time which is why I did a three day detox at the beginning of the week to cleanse and flush out all my toxins. It made me feel fresh and eager to put healthy things back into my system for my busy week ahead. Definitely worth trying a Juicetou detox.

For more music, fitness and fashion news check out my website http://www.ajodudu.com. Heres just some of what I wore this week.

District worked to fix mold problems - March 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    STARKE, Fla. -

Starke Elementary School will reopen Tuesday after it was closed in August due to the school having "unacceptable air quality," according to the Bradford County School District.

The school closed on Aug. 23 after Superintendent Chad Farnsworth reviewed a building health report which determined the school had unacceptable air quality.

Students resumed classes at alternate locations on Sept. 3.

"To date we have been able to complete enough of an assessment to identify what we feel are the primary causes of the mold growth," architect Paul Stressing said in a letter to Farnsworth last year. "The contributing factors found appear to be failed or compromised mechanical equipment, automated controls, insufficient outside air ventilation and building pressure, and various breaches in the perimeter building thermal envelope."

READ: Letter from Paul Stressing to Superintendent Chad Farnsworth

"The voids in the thermal envelope appear to be the result of shifting, settlement, and sagging of insulation due to age and expansion and contraction of building materials, which we are still in the process of documenting," Stressing continued. "New automated controls have been ordered and installed on the current 15+ year-old equipment that has been recently repaired until the newly ordered mechanical equipment arrives."

Stressing said the new mechanical equipment would take more than 12 weeks to arrive, therefore making it necessary to both repair the existing aged equipment and add supplemental portable dehumidifiers. Stressing said it was necessary "to accelerate the dry out efforts of some of the interior spaces and bring the interior condition space to a controllable environment that prohibits mold growth."

"Once the new mechanical equipment arrives it will be installed, the ductwork cleaned and or replaced. While waiting for the mechanical equipment the thermal envelope repairs and provisions for equipment accessibility to the mechanical mezzanine will occur," Stressing said. "At the completion of the repair and replacement efforts the interior spaces will receive a top-down cleaning to remove existing mold. Cleaning will be performed by a Florida licensed mold remediation contractor with direction from a mold assessment consultant. Once complete, the buildings will be retested and when found acceptable the buildings will be certified by an independent air quality testing company before allowing student occupancy."

School district officials said the total cost of the project was expected to range from $1.5 million to $2 million. The Bradford County School District allocated $177,100.72 from Fund 360 (Capital Outlay & Debt Service Fund) and $935,990.98 from Fund 370 (Local Capital Outlay Fund) for the project.

Boynton's sewage system in danger - March 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Boynton residents who rely on the towns wastewater collection and treatment lagoons could be left high and dry if town officials fail to bring the sewage system into compliance.

The town is operating the system pursuant to two consent orders issued by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality. The state environmental agency also has issued two notices of violation which, along with the two consent orders, resulted from unpermitted discharges and other problems.

Skylar McElhaney, an ODEQ spokeswoman, said the town has been out of compliance with the consent orders for some time. The agency has allowed the town to continue providing services in the hope proposed improvements would be completed.

ODEQs goal was to get the first phase of the towns proposed multiphase project under way, McElhaney said. Once that occurred, ODEQ could then enter into a new consent order to incorporate all the outstanding issues and establish a new schedule for completion of all phases of the project.

Ongoing legal and financial problems, much of which was highlighted in an investigative report published in February by the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspectors Office, dashed that plan. Because of what investigators described as poor record keeping and inadequate oversight by trustees, the town was unable to provide a clean financial audit needed to secure funding for improvements to the towns wastewater collection and lagoon treatment system.

Ernie Moore, executive director for Eastern Oklahoma Development District, said he began working with town officials about a year ago in an effort to help secure funding needed for the proposed improvements. Cooperation, however, was lacking.

We never could get enough cooperation to help them get anything set up, Moore said. Until the town, as a whole, decides to govern themselves in a responsible manner ... we wont be able to help we have pretty much exhausted all the avenues we had to help them.

State Auditor and Inspector Gary A. Jones said the town of Boynton has some obvious problems. He predicted those problems would continue until someone steps in and takes control.

That leadership wont come from former Mayor James Holt, who resigned March 7. Holt, in his letter of resignation, expressed a level of frustration with other town officials and residents.

As to the lack of interest of the people and the city council of the town of Boynton, I am unable to remain on the city council any longer, Holt wrote. No one has shown enough interest to even run for city council, and when someone does no one shows up to vote.
