Looters prey on homeless -

CEBU - The demolition of 157 houses in Sitio San Miguel, Barangay Apas, Cebu City continued Wednesday but was marred by a looting incident that led the official in charge to suspend it.
About 15 families in Sitio San Miguel, Barangay Apas filed another petition to save their houses from being demolished. Two other motions, which asked the court to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO), have failed.
But the families said the unreasonable rush to demolish ignores so many other equally important issues unresolved.
Without any last-minute save from the court yesterday, it was the looting, instead, that bought the residents some time because it forced the court sheriff to stop the wrecking crew for about four hours.
Around 8:30 a.m., a 200-man demolition team started the second day of the demolition on a property owned by Aletha Suico-Magat.
The demolition pushed through despite the appeal of Apas Barangay Captain Ramil Ayuman to court sheriff Edilberto Suarin yesterday morning to put it on hold, since the court has yet to act on the motion for temporary restraining order (TRO) filed by lawyer Feliciano Payot, who represents majority of the residents.
FIVE HOUSES DOWN SO FAR. A demolition crew tugs at the house of Joeman Bandillo, 1 of 5 houses torn down since last Tuesday. The crew is enforcing an order to demolish 157 houses in Barangay Apas, Cebu City. (Ruel Rosello)
The houses that the demolition team targeted yesterday belonged to those who received financial assistance from Magat in the past years.
The owners of the two houses that were first demolished last Tuesday have also received financial assistance from Magat.
According to Suarin, seven out of the 157 families already received cash aid, in varying amounts that depend on the type of structure built.

To meet home buyer demand for quicker move in times without sacrificing their need for personalizing interior finishes, Minto Communities announces the launch of the Custom Choice Home Program in PortoSol, one of South Floridas premier master-planned communities now entering the final sales phase.
The launch of the Custom Choice Home Program is a result of our buyers wanting to move into a new home faster and still have the opportunity to select their interior finishes in the design phase, states Steve Svopa, vice president, Minto Communities. As we enter the final sales phase at PortoSol, Custom Choice will help buyers begin to enjoy this picture-perfect paradise even sooner.
Personalizing the look and feel of a home is what Custom Choice is all about. Buyers can select their interior finishes to reflect their own taste and style. Homes are constructed through the drywall stage to allow a future buyer to choose the flooring, cabinets, countertops, paint colors and much more.
PortoSol is a master-planned, gated community boasting 5 acres of recreation area and a 5,000 square foot clubhouse. Conveniently located in Royal Palm Beach near State Road 7 and Okeechobee Blvd., PortoSol is just minutes away from CityPlace in downtown West Palm Beach, with easy access to I-95 and the Florida Turnpike, and was named one of the 10 Best Towns in America by Family Circle Magazine.

Industry-First Product Makes Dynamic Curved Designs Possible Without Custom Fabrication
Bendable by Design At only 6.5 mm thick, Gyptone BIG Curve can be easily dry bent to a 10-foot radius, and can achieve up to a 5-foot radius by wet bending. Such a malleable product radically broadens the universe of design options available to an architect. Its a perfect solution for spaces that require not only breathtaking style, but sound acoustics and indoor comfort, as well.
Gyptone BIG Curve enables avant-garde architectural design without expensive custom products or time- and labor-intensive installation, said Christine Fonock-Smith, product manager for CertainTeed Ceilings. Its also highly sound absorptive, so function and occupant comfort never have to be at odds with cutting-edge design.
Uncompromising Acoustics The companys commitment to Environmental Acoustics design means the new product uniquely melds style, acoustical performance and sustainability. Interiors installed with Gyptone BIG Curve are meant to inspire and help people thrive.
The panels are fitted with an acoustical backing tissue and are available in a variety of striking perforation patterns, each with varying degrees of sound absorption and eye-catching beauty. With an NRC up to 0.70 and the ability to fine tune acoustics based on placement and curve radius, Gyptone BIG Curve is ideal for calming healing environments, inspirational learning spaces and engaging workplaces.
For photos and descriptions of each perforation style, click here.
Seamless Interplay Between Ceiling and Light Gyptone BIG Curve comes in modular 2400mm x 1200mm panels, which are pre-finished in a bright white to maximize light distribution. However, the panels can be easily painted with a short nap roller to complement any palette or add an attention-grabbing burst of color. This means the entire character of a space can be redefined with just a simple coat of paint, making it extremely flexible for future updates.
Also, Gyptone BIG Curve ceilings are designed for simple integration of lighting elements, creating harmonic interplay where ceiling and light naturally blend into the collective architecture. Light fixtures and ventilation can serve as breaks in the ceiling surface, or can be pulled back into the recesses for a simple backlit design. Again, the only limit is the designers imagination.
Industry-Leading Product Transparency Made of 85 percent recycled content and certified for low-VOC emissions, Gyptone BIG Curve contributes to sustainable building standards and helps maintain high indoor air quality. It is also covered by CertainTeeds industry-first collection of Health Product Declarations (HPDs) for ceilings solutions. By providing detailed information on the products makeup, the HPD contributes to important materials and resources credits under the newest version of LEED, which places greater emphasis on product transparency.

Money used to fund the audio and visual systems in Springettsbury Township's fire station project is part of a vision to make the location an emergency operation center, officials said.
The station is under construction on Commons Drive, between East Market Street and Eastern Boulevard. It is scheduled for completion in June.
Township supervisors voted 5-0 recently to pay $47,764 to Advanced AV for the new systems.
Township manager John Holman said they will be installed on the first floor only. He said the project is being paid for with grant funds, and the original price of the project was estimated at $68,000.
The project summary provided by Advanced AV states, "this proposal consists of a multi-purpose room with projection, audio, microphone, reinforcement, control and recording."
Video includes installation of one ceiling mounted wide screen, accommodating for laptop connections, and additional output plates, which will allow the ability to roll in additional flat screen displays.
Audio provided in the project will include a conference microphone system, with seven microphones, 10 ceiling speakers, and an audio recorder, along with hearing aid applications."
The meeting room will be used by the York Area United Fire and Rescue Board, by the township or YAUFR board for training exercises and as a location for an emergency operations center. The board of supervisors could use this space if they wanted to or needed to hold a special meeting.
