KINGSTON (WATE) - The Tennessee Valley Authority says it has reached a milestone in its cleanup of the ash spill at the Kingston Fossil Plant: the completion of an earthquake resistant, underground retaining wall around the containment cell at the recovery site.
TVA says the wall completely surrounds the 240-acre containment cell where recovered ash was permanently stored.
The wall was completed on February 20, almost a month ahead of schedule.
Construction of the wall began in summer 2011. TVA says it is the largest wall of its kind in the U.S. at nearly 64,000 linear feet, the equivalent of 12 miles. It is designed to withstand a magnitude 6.0 earthquake.
The project team is now working on installing the cap and cover over the containment cell. This is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
TVA is also restoring and enhancing the Swan Pond area by installing recreational areas, performing shoreline stabilization, constructing wetlands and planting a variety of native plants and trees.

MILWAUKIE, Ore. (KOIN) Beginning Tuesday, TriMet will clean graffiti off a retaining wall near the under-construction Portland-to-Milwaukie light rail line.
But once the line is up and running, any future graffiti will become the problem of Bill Corti, who owns the Monroe Street property the retaining wall is on.
I think that TriMet needs to take responsibility since I had nothing to say in the design of this wall, Corti told KOIN 6 News. They need to come back and clean it in the years ahead.
TriMet built the retaining wall on Cortis property to replace another wall that Corti owned and was responsible for maintaining. TriMet officials said the previous wall and stairwell were aging, so the new wall is an improvement and is safer.
But once the light rail line begins in September 2015, ownership of the wall reverts to Corti and so does the responsibility for cleaning the graffiti.
Corti said theres no way he knows of to appeal this issue, unless theres an agreement between TriMet and me.
I wish they had contacted me before they had their plans finalized. I wish that we had had a say in this, he said Monday.
Milwaukie Mayor Jeremy Ferguson, March 3, 2014 (KOIN 6 News)
The deal is between TriMet and the city of Milwaukie.

A truck is seen traveling over Sharpes Ferry Bridge in Ocala on Monday.
The Sharpes Ferry Bridge appears to be as good as new.
State transportation officials have announced that repairs to the retaining wall at the bridge were completed last week, and the bridge is fully open to traffic again.
A 250-foot-long section of a that wall at the span along County Road 314 collapsed after Tropical Storm Debby blew through Marion County in June 2012.
The piece that gave way was part of the roadway support on the approach to the bridge.
Taxpayers did not have to shell out any additional money for the repairs, Florida Department of Transportation officials said. The reconstruction was covered under the original contracts warranty.
According to FDOT officials, the Houston-based contractor, Orion Marine, rebuilt the retaining wall and also reinforced and strengthened all of the wall quadrants.
FDOT spokesman Steve Olson said the state did pay roughly $186,200 for inspectors and other managerial services on the project. But the agency has sent a letter to the contractor requesting reimbursement for that cost.
The incident occurred less than three months after the new, $8.2 million bridge had opened to traffic.
The new structure had replaced a narrower iron truss span that dated to the mid-1920s.

The empire strikes deck -

After months of being sworn to secrecy, today the crew at Pro Skateboards got to reveal the limited-edition line of Star Wars-themed decks by legendary skateboard maker Santa Cruz. This made for a bit of an unwrap party at the Quinpool Street store, as stock that's been sequestered in the back room until the official release date was finally allowed onto the shelves.
Loads of characters from the Star Wars universe are featuredthere are storm trooper longboards, Boba Fett and Yoda set-ups complete with matching wheels, Han Solo and Princess Leia deckswith no sign of Bizarro universe denizens like Jar Jar Binks and General Grievous. In other words, they are awesome.
Santa Cruz says: "These incredibly unique decks are laser serial numbered with matching numbered Certificates of Authenticity and encased in its own custom foil printed and embossed, foam lined display box."
In other words, Darth Skater isn't going to actually ride one of these around. But for the serious fan of both Star Wars and skateboarding, definitely an object of desire. Pro Skates' one inlay deck is priced at $536, with lower price tags on the rest of the line.
The Santa Cruz promo video, complete with trip to Lucasfilm and cameo from the man in black.
