    Bridge fences

Enough is enough. Its about time we gave this bridge a break. When people want to end their life, they come to the Penobscot Narrows Bridge. Its about time they put up some safety rails and fences to stop people from jumping off this bridge. They put up those fences in Augusta, why not here on this bridge?

Lets stop this by installing some high fences so that it will be impossible for anyone to climb over. It will be a lot better to see those fences than to see the Coast Guard pulling a body out from under this nice bridge.

While the University of Maine mens basketball team admittedly has a history of being not very good, this season has brought about new lows. With only three wins in America East this season, Maine has dropped to 337 out of 351 Division I programs in a well-respected college basketball power ranking list at http://www.kenpom.com. Its time for there to be accountability for their overall lack of competitiveness, and that accountability starts at the top. On behalf of Fill The Steins Nation, its time for University of Maine Coach Ted Woodward to resign.

Woodward is now in his tenth season as coach. In that time, the teams overall record is 116-174 (40 percent winning percentage) and 65-95 (40.62 percent) in America East. Maine has had one winning season (2009-10) during Woodwards tenure and has seen the win total decline in each of the last four seasons. The level of patience shown for Woodward by the athletic department is admirable. However alumni, supporters and fans eventually deserve to see sustained competitiveness.

Maine will never be a basketball school; hockey will always come first. That doesnt mean we should accept a mens basketball team that is uncompetitive more often than not. Both John Giannini and Rudy Keeling took Maine to the conference tournament final as Maines head coach. Theres no reason to think the right coach cant do that again, particularly in the traditionally weak America East. After a decade of mediocrity-at-best, Woodward has proven to not be that coach.

Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Novice Chase 2m 1f - March 3, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Verdict

Moscow Mannon was having only his second start over fences when storming to a 15-length victory at Naas and is a very smart chasing prospect. However, he was beaten over hurdles by MALLOWNEY on that track a year ago and the latter has hardly stood still over fences. Although beaten by Back Before Dawn at Navan last time, when Some Tikket fell when under pressure, that was a Grade 2 and the winner is another very promising type. Timothy Doyle's charge was still in touch when falling in a Grade 1 here earlier and can come out best this time. Darwins Fox is a stable companion of Moscow Mannon but carries a penalty for a very easy Grade 3 victory at Roscommon and has plenty to do. Mount Colah was behind the selection at Fairyhouse in December and Is Herself About, an easy debut winner over fences at Clonmel, will find these rivals much tougher.

Mount Colah (IRE) 6-4fav (11-7) Chased leader, led after 3rd, travelled well in lead when bad mistake last, soon headed, ridden and rallied run-in to lead again closing stages, won at Thurles 2m beg chase sft in Jan beating Katnap (11-12) by 3/4l, 16 ran.

Moscow Mannon (IRE) 13-8 (11-12) Chased leader in 2nd, led 5 out, went clear run-in, easily, won at Naas 2m beg chase in Feb beating Abbey Lane (11-12) by 15l, 16 ran.

Mallowney (IRE) 13-8 (11-4) Prominent and disputed lead, led before 4th, headed entering straight and ridden after 2 out, no impression on winner last and no extra run-in, 2nd of 5, 7l behind Bright New Dawn (11-4) at Navan 2m 1f nov chs G2 (1) hvy in Feb.

Is Herself About (IRE) 3-1 (11-5) Soon raced in moderate 2nd, closed from 5th, led 4 out, clear from next, reduced lead from before 2 out but still going smoothly, left clear and stayed on well from last, comfortably,, won at Clonmel 2m beg chs gd in Dec beating Treat Yourself (11-12) by 11l, 6 ran.

Some Tikket (IRE) 9-2 (11-4) Tracked leaders in 4th, pushed along and no impression in 4th when badly hampered and unseated rider 3 out, in a race won by Bright New Dawn (11-4) at Navan 2m 1f nov chs G2 (1) hvy in Feb, 5 ran.

Darwins Fox (FR) 13-8 (11-8) Tracked leaders in 3rd, pushed along early straight and no extra in 3rd approaching last, 3rd of 5, 10l behind Art Of Logistics (11-0) at Punchestown 2m 2f nov chs (1) gd in Oct.

Lowe's helps upgrade ML Senior Center - March 3, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake Senior Center officials got a couple of improvement projects knocked off their "to-do" list thanks to a group of Lowe's Home Improvement volunteers.

Senior Center General Manager Carry Liles said a handful of Lowe's employees and their families spent a couple of days this month working on various projects around the center.

They installed a new roll-up kitchen window in the senior center's meeting room, an electric door on one of the building's entrances and a second door just inside the building, she said. The projects were all tasks Liles had been wanting to get done, but couldn't because of a lack of funding.

Liles said she saw the chance to get one of the projects taken care of when Lowe's approached her earlier this year and asked if there was anything they needed done around the center.

"We told them there were three projects we had on our list, and to pick one," she said. "We said they were all important projects so whichever one they could do would be very much appreciated."

However, much to Liles' surprise, Lowe's decided to take care of all three projects.

"They did it all, we thought they were going to do one project, but they did it all," she said.

Liles said the center can better accommodate their patrons now that the projects are complete.

The new roll-up window benefits those who use the center's Birch Room, she said. Various groups hold lunch meetings in that room and it's also where visitors play Bingo and do other activities. Before the roll-up window, people had to get up and walk back to the main dining area to get their food or drinks.

"It's an inconvenience and it's not easy for people who use walkers or are in wheelchairs," she said.
