Demolition begins on Blue Springs water tower - March 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    BLUE SPRINGS, MO (KCTV) -

It is demolition day for a downtown Blue Springs water tower.

Don't expect any big booms or explosions to take down the 300,000-gallon water tower. Instead, it will be torn down piece by piece starting Friday morning.

The pieces are heavy, ranging from 2,000 to 9,000 pounds. During the demolition, a large crane will lift them from high above down to the ground.

"It is going to be a big deal. I think there are going to be a lot of people out watching," said Cindy Miller, president of Blue Springs Downtown Alive.

Iseler Demolition Inc., a company that specializes in water tower demolition, will get to work Friday morning. They've deconstructed hundreds of water towers around the country. Click here and here to see a timelapse of a similar demolition.

"Some people bring in a huge crane and pickup the whole tank in one section. We don't do that. We simply piece it out basically the opposite way it was put together," said Douglas Iseler, owner of Iseler Demolition Inc.

Some Blue Springs residents are sad to see the staple disappear from the skyline. It has been a directional marker for many in town.

"I know it has been here for a very long time. There are a lot of people who are really enthusiastic about the water tower," Miller said.

The tower is coming down to make room for renovations to the Howard L. Brown Public Safety Building that will hold the police department.

Sheriff faces 2 cases over Apas demolition - March 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

COURT sheriff Edilberto Suarin is facing two cases for alleged violations of the urban poor law during the implementation of a court-ordered demolition at Sitio San Miguel, Barangay Apas, Cebu City.

The first is a criminal case filed by Leo Dioquino yesterday before the Office of the Ombudsman. He is one of the 157 families affected by the demolition at San Miguel.

In a copy of his complaint affidavit, Dioquino said Suarin violated Republic Act 7279, otherwise known as the Urban Housing and Development Act (Udha) after he hired a minor as part of the demolition team.

Worse, Dioquino said the minor robbed them and stole their blower, electric hair iron, electric meter, electric wire and a radio.

This act by sheriff Suarin of hiring a minor to be part of the demolition team is very reprehensible and in breach of the duties deposed on him as agent of the law, he said.

Also, Dioquino said the people who composed the demolition team were not properly identified as some were wearing masks and they have no identification cards.

This, he said, is a violation of Section 28 of RA 7279, which provides that there should be proper identification of all persons taking part in a demolition.

Aside from this, Dioquino said he was not able to receive a notice from the sheriff that their house will already be demolished.

Section 28, he said, further provides that notice should be given to the affected families 30 days prior to the date of eviction or demolition.

It is undisputed that the provision (of the law) is intended as a safeguard to protect the underprivileged and homeless citizens like us. And these requirements are not empty gestures. In fact, the tenor of the provision indicates that such requirements are of mandatory character.

The proposed demolition of Ballarats Civic Hall has gone global.

A City of Ballarat planning application to demolish the hall has attracted 1900 submissions from around the world, with the vast majority calling for the building to be retained.

The loss of heritage, wasting ratepayers money and the demolition of the on-site skate park are referred to frequently in the documents, which have been lodged with the councils planning department.

The Courier has started to go through each of the submissions and we found a number calling for the hall to be converted for use as a music venue or tourist information centre.

Prominent identities and organisations are featured including the Twentieth Century Heritage Society of NSW and Art Deco Trust branches in Napier New Zealand, Toronto Canada, Brazil and Sacramento

    California.

Other submissions have been received from Ballan, Maryborough, Wangaratta, Geelong, Yaraville, Creswick, Kyneton and Paris.

Adamo Group Honored With National Demolition Association 2014 Environmental Excellence Award - March 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Detroit, MI (PRWEB) March 27, 2014

Adamo Group was presented with the 2014 Environmental Excellence Award from the National Demolition Association (NDA) in February at the NDAs 41st Annual Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Award recognized Adamo Group and 12 other companies for performing demolition projects that demonstrate significant environmental conservation and community improvement.

The Environmental Excellence Awards recognize NDA member companies which are true leaders in the area of environmental stewardship, said Michael R. Taylor, CAE, Executive Director of the NDA. Environmental stewardship is one of the demolition industrys primary missions and these winning projects help illustrate truly dramatic efforts our members have made to make this a reality and improve the quality of life in their communities. By removing abandoned housing, demolishing dilapidated industrial facilities, preparing commercial space for productive reuse, maximizing recycling opportunities, and cleaning up toxic waste sites, demolition companies are making way for fresh vibrant places to grow.

Adamo Group was recognized as an integral part of a project team responsible for the decommissioning and demolition of a chemical manufacturing facility. CH2M HILLs project at the chemical facility is a testament to safe, sustainable project execution in the decommissioning and demolition industry, Taylor said. Since early 2012, general contractor CH2M HILL has orchestrated a project team consisting of Adamo Demolition and four other companies to decommission and demolish facility units and associated infrastructure deemed obsolete or outmoded. The project team has worked safely to decommission, demolish, and recycle more than 15,750 tons of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and has expended more than 240,000 man-hours while maintaining an excellent record of safety and environmental compliance.

Adamo Group is honored to be recognized by its peers for excellence in environmental conservation and community improvement, said John Adamo, Jr. We were able to combine our 50 years of demolition experience and expertise with the project team to successfully and safely complete a challenging project. Everyone involved should be very proud of what we were able to accomplish together as a team.

Home show offers more personal service - March 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

With warmer weather on the way, people are looking to get started on home remodeling and improvement projects.

While many will look online for ideas and materials, around 8,000 people will be touching, inspecting and asking questions about all things home-related at the Black Hills Home Builders Association Home Show, which opens at noon today at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

(The home show) is important in our technological world where people are used to ordering off the Internet and dont always know what theyre getting, said Jeff Lage, home show chairman. You can meet with people who can tell you whats good or whats bad.

Whats good is brick, according to Kevin Aker, sales manager at Hebron Brick & Block Supply in Rapid City.

Aker said brick is making a comeback. And a new product Hebron is offering makes it easier to work with. The thin brick, called Authentic Americana, is lighter than traditional brick.

Its a tumbled brick that is supposed to look rustic and old, Aker said. Its a natural clay brick. Its not fake. Its just that the face is cut off.

That means it can be used anywhere, inside or outside.

Any room: kitchen, bathroom, bar, back splash, fireplace fire pit or patio, Aker said. If you want brick but cant support the weight, you can use the thin brick.

The Hebron booth will be one of about 400 at this weekend's home show, where contractors, vendors, suppliers and manufacturers will offer information, services and home goods.

This will be Jim Tolleys 16th year at the home show. The president and janitor of J&D Woodworks in Black Hawk will show off a massive cedar bar that took about 150 hours to build and was just finished this week.

Bureaucrat denies 'not hard' claim over ceiling insulation scheme - March 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A bureaucrat has disputed an email claiming she and former environment minister Peter Garrett believed installing batts was "not that hard".

Then-environment department secretary Robyn Kruk says the conversation in question was about the do-it-yourself nature of the industry, rather than the ease of installing insulation batts.

    It was a do-it-yourself industry.

The pair also discussed how hopeless they were at renovating, she said.

A royal commission into the troubled scheme was on Wednesday shown an email from another bureaucrat that said: "The Secretary and the Minister compared notes on their personal experience in installing batts! 'not that hard'."

Ms Kruk said she disagreed with the comment.

"The sentiment of that discussion was in effect the installation of batts could be done by anyone," Ms Kruk told the inquiry in Brisbane on Friday.

    "It was a do-it-yourself industry."

Ms Kruk also told the inquiry that environment department staffers devising the home insulation scheme worked their "butts off".
