Man narrowly avoids being shot through front door

A man has survived a shooting through his front door - with the terrifying moment caught on a home security camera.

The video shows a man allegedly armed with a rifle move towards the front door of Chris Bodens home before opening fire on his doorstep.

It was a close call.

I heard a bang at the door and opened the door, and there was a man standing there with a gun, so I slammed the door and then bang, pulled the trigger.

He had fallen to the floor, a move that may have saved his life.

It came through the door and pieces of wood hit me in the face, he said.

By the time police arrived 10 minutes later, the offender was gone.

Mr Boden said the same man confronted his son Bodie at the home earlier in the day armed with a knife.

He went to take a swing at me and as hes done that my mum came to the door and startled him, Bodie Cox said.

Handybook, a start-up headed by Irish entrepreneur, Oisin Hanrahan, and New Yorker, Umang Dua, has secured USD30m in seed funding.

The company, whose app offers housecleaning and handyman services much the same way the app Hailo quickly provides users with taxis, has now collected USD47m in funding.

Handybook now has 150 employees in 26 cities around the US.

Mr Hanrahan and cofounder Umang Dua plan to use the new cash to expand even faster.

"We're going to enter some new cities, but we'll focus more on the cities we're already in," says Hanrahan. " We're going to keep building the customer service team - it's all about customer experience. We've built quite a good engineering team in New York and will keep growing out the product."

Handybook began at Harvard Business School in 2012, where Hanrahan and Dua met randomly as roommates.

The pair spent their first year kicking around start-up ideas. Inspiration came by the way of their dirty apartment. "We were living in squalor. We had furniture sitting in the apartment for months that we hadn't put together," Hanrahan told me this March. "We thought why don't we start thinking about home services and solving this enormous problem."

They found a few engineers and got busy recruiting freelancers from cleaning services.

Over the summer of 2012 Hanrahan and Dua were had been accepted into Highland Capital's incubator and started building a real business. That business has since expanded to 26 U.S. cities. This winter Handybook bought west coast cleaning business, Exec, for an undisclosed price reported to be under $10 million.

Six Flags Parkway upgrade begins Monday

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday on the addition of left turn lanes and the installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Six Flags Parkway and Lee Industrial Blvd.

This one-third-mile project also will include the widening of Six Flags Drive at this location to a three-lane section with curb and gutter and a five-foot-wide sidewalk on both sides from just west to about 1,200 feet east of this intersection.

Marietta to hold gun safety seminars

The Marietta Police Department will hold firearm safety seminars 6:30 p.m. Thursday June 12 and also June 24 at Marietta City Hall Council Chambers, 2015 Lawrence St.

The free program for citizens will cover safety, laws, alternative use of weapons, home defense and new Georgia weapon laws.
