Aircraft on display in Havelock - June 2, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Havelock Commissioner Jim Stuart, on ladder, watches as a crew from McGowan Painting Contractors begins work on the job to paint an HH-46 helicopter at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center last week. The crew is also painting the RF-4B jet.

By Drew C. Wilson, Havelock News

Two old, retired Marine Corps birds on display at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center are getting new paint jobs.

The HH-46 Pedro helicopter and the RF-4B Phantom jet will be sanded down and repainted over the next two weeks.

The city set aside money for the maintenance of the aircraft in this years budget, so weve opted to do two aircraft with the money that was allocated, said Havelock Commissioner Jim Stuart, who is also curator of the Eastern Carolina Aviation Heritage Foundation.

The city budgeted $46,000 for painting some of the five historic Marine Corps aircraft that are on display outside the center. McGowan Painting Contractors of Greenville was hired for $40,000 to do the job.

It will make them more presentable and get them on a schedule to where every five or six years we revisit them and check their condition and everything, Stuart said. Previously, the volunteers did all the painting, and were still going to continue to do all the basic maintenance and things of that nature, but given the age of the volunteers and how intense the work is, the city opted to fund the aircraft by some commercial folks.

Stuart said the helicopter and Phantom were selected to be first based on their position in front of the center.

Its kind of the central showpiece for the whole place, he said.

Stuart said volunteers repainted the helicopter about four years ago, while the Phantom had not been painted since it was placed in front of the center in 2002.

New Provider Delivers Milk to Henrico Schools Monday - June 2, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - Milk deliveries resumed at Henrico schools Monday morning, after Henrico County school officials announced Sunday night that a new source would provide milk to some schools.

Henrico School Nutrition Services says they've made arrangements with a new provider. Schools that have the highest demand for milk services during breakfast and lunch will be getting milk.

They hope to have milk delivered to all 72 schools and program centers by the end of the week.

This all started this past Wednesday after students started feeling sick at school. It was later confirmed the cartons of Marva Maid milk had spoiled before the expiration date.

It was on Wednesday afternoon that we had four kids at an elementary school who complained of illnesses, had nausea-like symptoms, said Andy Jenks, HCPS director of communications and public relations. It became apparent shortly after that that there was a funny smell and taste to the milk.

After the four initial complaints, 10 more were made to the Henrico County Health Department. The agency began investigating immediately.

I know that we havent identified any storage issues at the Henrico County Public Schools said Health Director Susan Fischer Davis.

Marva Maid Dairys internal investigation, however, did turn up something. The company tested the milk from that date of production in its lab and found it had spoiled. A spokesperson for the company also said a valve issue at a Norfolk processing plant had taken place the day the milk in question was put into cartons, and that this could increase bacteria growth in the product. Marva Maid Dairy didnt feel it was a big enough issue to recall the milk.

In a written statement, Marva Maid Dary said: A number of factors can contribute to milk spoiling before its expiration date. The most common cause is lack of proper refrigeration, which puts added stress on milk and makes it more perishable.

New Provider Delivers Milk to Henrico Schools Monday

Milk returning to some Henrico schools Monday - June 2, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. Milk will be making a return at some Henrico schools Monday, according to an email sent to parents from Henrico County Public Schools late Sunday.

This after the beverage was yanked from cafeterias because some students were sickened by Marva Maid milk on Thursday.

We are happy to announce that milk deliveries to some of our schools will resume tomorrow, Monday, June 2, school leaders wrote in an email to parents. School Nutrition Services worked diligently throughout the weekend to secure arrangements with a new provider. Tomorrow, the new provider will begin deliveries to schools that have the highest demand for milk service during breakfast and lunch. Because we cannot guarantee that all schools will offer milk tomorrow, please plan accordingly As always, juice and water will also be available.

Milk is expected to be available at all the countys schools and program centers by the end of the week.

Marva Maid notified customers last Thursday that it was voluntarily withdrawing all -pints with a May 30 expiration date. Additionally, the company announced late Friday that it withdrawing all -pints with expiration dates from May 30 through June 2 out of an abundance of caution.

Henrico County Public Schools warned parents Thursday night that some students had become ill after drinking school milk.

Their symptoms, mainly nausea, were short-lived. As a precaution, however, we have decided not to serve milk of any type tomorrow (Friday, May 30th), throughout the school system. Juice and water will be offered as alternatives, the county told parents.

District officials said reiterated Sunday that they are continuing to work with the Henrico Health Department, the Virginia Department of Health and Marva Maid to figure out what caused the students to get sick.

MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / June 2, 2014) - The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration has suspended a recruitment agency for allegedly issuing two sets of different working visas to a Filipina maid bound for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said he ordered the preventive suspension of Chanceteam International Services, Inc. after stopping the woman - who was carrying visas for the position of sales staff and servant - from leaving the country.

He said this was discovered after the woman presented the two different visas at the pre-departure verification desk at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The woman admitted during an investigation that she was handed two visas by the recruitment agency. She told investigators that her agent directed her to present the visa bearing the sales staff at the airport and the servant visa to her employer in Dubai.

She said her agency instructed her to tell the POEA officers at the airport that the servant visa was obtained on her behalf by her cousin in Dubai, but she mistakenly presented all two visas to inspectors.

Cacdac said the recruitment agency committed serious violations. There was no immediate statement from Chanceteam International Services.

St. Andrews launches summer league — Gazette.Net - June 2, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    File photo

St. Andrews rising senior guard Marcus Adkison is expected to be one of the top players in the county.

The Montgomery County boys basketball landscape will have a different look this summer, thanks to a new league launched by St. Andrews Episcopal School.

The St. Andrews League will include 16 teams with many, like St. Andrews, that played in the Montgomery County Summer League in previous summers.

Lions boys coach Kevin Jones, who helped launch the league, said he hopes it will help the players gain additional exposure to college coaches. The league is in the process of adding a website that includes schedules, standings, rosters and statistics, Jones said.

We just thought it would be a good opportunity to run a league the way that we wanted, Jones said.

Walt Whitman, the Class 4A state finalists, is one of the 12 Montgomery County public school teams participating in the league, hosted at the Potomac private school.

[We wanted] to do something different, Vikings coach Chris Lun said. ... For us, its right in Potomac. Its close for a lot of our kids.

Other participants include Clarksburg, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, Gaithersburg, The Heights, Landon, Col. Zadok Magruder, River Hill (Howard), Rockville, Richard Montgomery, Poolesville, Quince Orchard, Watkins Mill and Thomas S. Wootton.

The Lions return three starters, including rising senior Marcus Adkison, from last seasons 18-7 team.
