Two men were injured by falling bricks during the demolition of a church in the Grand Crossing neighborhood this afternoon, authorities said.
Fire crews were called to the scene near 72nd Street and South Dorchester Avenue following the report of a building collapse about 1:15 p.m., but it was determined that there was "nothing serious," according to the Fire Department's news office. Two men were injured by falling bricks during the demolition of the building in the 7100 block of South Dorchester, said Police News Affairs Officer Ana Pacheco.
Two people were taken to local hospitalsfor treatment following the accident, said Fire Department spokesman Will Knight. Their injuries were not considered serious.
A 44-year-old man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and a 56-year-old man was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, Pacheco said.

TAMPA An iconic West Tampa structure that has sat dormant for years is expected to come alive next year as the Tampa Jewish Community Center prepares to turn the Fort Homer Hesterly Armory into its second campus.
A $6 million injection into a capital campaign from the state Legislature this spring has sparked pre-construction demolition, with workers removing ceiling panels and lighting fixtures and preparing the site for early events.
The Jewish Community Center & Federation hopes to raise $24 million to turn the empty building between Howard and Armenia avenues south of Interstate 275 into a beehive of activity, including a new 14,000-square-foot preschool, recreational amenities, health and wellness services and art space.
About $18 million has been raised so far, and developers are confident enough in reaching the goal that new signs are up proclaiming, The Future Is Here.
Several years ago, center administrators realized that what director Jack Ross called a matter of geographical psychology was keeping people from South Tampa from using the existing Jewish Community Center on Gunn Highway in North Tampa.
Meanwhile, proposal after proposal for development of the 73-year-old armory fizzled, and when talks to bring a Department of Veterans Affairs center broke down, we stepped in, Ross said.
Late last year, the group signed a 99-year lease and option to buy with the State Armory Board for 5.7 acres of the full 10-acre National Guard site. The guard will maintain its staging area to the north of the parcel; the Jewish Community Center will transform the 83,000-square-foot main structure. Additional buildings will complement the original armory.
The site misses state Sen. Jeff Brandes Pinellas-Hillsborough district by about 1,700 feet, but the Republican from St. Petersburg said he was happy to marshal the $6 million budget request through the Legislature.
I think this is probably the greatest economic development facility we could have for the North Hyde Park area, and I think its going to really transform that area, he said. I immediately got the vision of what they were trying to do, and I saw the impact it was going to have on the community. This seemed like a modest investment that will have huge implications down the road.
Ross said the revival of the armory has three components.

A stunning custom-built home in Forrest with a timeless design and the Garangula Gallery in Harden have taken out top honours in the association's excellence awards for 2014.
Canberra builder Manteena Construction won the prestigious Project of the Year award for the iconic gallery, which was designed by Fender Katsalidis Mirams to house the clients collection of indigenous art.
The judges said the project was a perfect example of how a close collaboration between client and architects could deliver a unique building with minimal impact on the environment.

The gallery, which is about 20 kilometres from Harden, was built in sympathy with the local surroundings with stone and earth excavated on site for thebuilding's walls.

Substantial quantities of recycled timber from the old Hornibrook Bridge in Queensland were used as well as patinated Corten steel.
The result is a gallery which is most striking when first viewed against its natural landscape and continues to impress, even after detailed study, the judges said.

"Is there anyone here who, planning to build a new house doesn't sit down and figure the cost so you'll know if you can complete it?" Luke 14:28 MSG.
The heart and drive of the Church division of S&B Construction is to help Pastors, their staff, core leadership and congregations understand if they are truly ready for a new church building and or capital campaign. More importantly can they sustain and complete the campaign, before they spend money, time and heartache to never see the vision God has given them for their ministry come to life.
S&B Construction started in 1972. We have been building and designing churchbuildingssince 1996. Our projects have ranged in size and scope from 5,000 S.F. to over 90,000 S.F. Our church designs and construction include Liturgical, Traditional, state of the art Children and Youth facilities, Sanctuaries, and theatrical quality worship auditoriums. Costs have ranged from $125K to over $24 million.
In 2006 S&B Construction was chosen as the exclusive regional church builder for Building God's Way, a unique Biblical approach to facilitate church construction. We have a unique 5 Step Process, from the very early stage of Vision Assessment, then Church Growth, Design, Capital Campaign and Curch Construction of the facility. For more information about Building God's Way and our unique church building process, based on Nehemiah Chapter 2, please click on the Building God's Way tab to the right.
