PATCO ridership drops 6 percent - June 26, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

For the first four months of 2014, PATCO ridership was off by 6.2 percent from the same period in 2013, with just more than 3.3 million riders, down from about 3.5 million.

PATCO had enjoyed growing ridership almost every year for more than a decade, but that ended last year.

Ridership slipped slightly, to about 10.5 million passengers, from 10.6 million in 2012, the highest since 1999, according to PATCO's most recent tabulations.

The current construction also has reduced car and truck traffic on the bridge, as lane closures have caused traffic backups into Philadelphia and Camden.

Vehicle traffic was down by 4.5 percent, or 264,000 vehicles, for the first four months of 2014, compared with the same period in 2013. That resulted in $1.4 million less in toll revenue.

Thursday was Day 17 of a planned 60-day closure of the PATCO track on the south side of the bridge, as part of a two-year project to replace tracks, signals, and other components.

Ninety percent of the demolition on the track is complete, Mike Venuto, chief engineer for the Delaware River Port Authority, said Thursday.

Next is repair of steel beams, sand-blasting, and painting, before installing new concrete to support the new rails and equipment, Venuto said.

Construction is on schedule to permit the south track to be reopened in early August, he said.

Then the track on the north side of the bridge will be closed for 50 days to permit similar demolition and construction there. The entire project is slated to be finished by early 2016.

Demolition orders are issued at Clune Park - June 26, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Published: 26 Jun 2014 11:30

DEMOLITION orders have been issued to property owners at Clune Park in Port Glasgow.

Structural damage to flats in Robert Street.

The council announced the move yesterday afternoon.

It is the latest stage of a plan which involves Inverclyde Council committing 2.6 million of public money to tackle physical and social regeneration on the estate.

Under the councils plans, a total of 430 properties are to be levelled to create a new opportunity for social housing.

In a statement issued yesterday, the council said that in recent years the Clune Park area has been a byword for irresponsible private landlords and even home to drug den flats.

Municipal Buildings bosses want to flatten the estate and find new homes for the existing residents and tenants.

The local authority says that years of minimal investment by owners in communal repairs, and a new examination of the estate, mean they must now step in and use legislative powers to address the issues.

LAS VEGAS The PEAR M5542i antenna developed by Galtronics Corporation Ltd., a Baylin Technologies (TSX:BYL) company, has won approval from carriers in Canada and the United States and is available for immediate shipment from the U.S. to support small cell and Distributed Antenna System (DAS) deployments.

Your Place: What recourse for rain damage in basement? - June 26, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

My concerns also include damage lurking behind the remaining walls that we cannot see, and present and future mold issues because the basement is also my grandson's play room.

How should the cause of this water problem be investigated?

Do they have any recourse from the home-inspection company they used, at least for their insurance deductible? Do they have any recourse from the previous owner's seller's disclosure?

To me, it seems something was missed somewhere, and they are left with a very expensive problem, as well as being heartbroken. What can they do?

Answer: Until you have incontrovertible proof the problem was caused by the previous owner's remodeling, I wouldn't start pointing fingers. The winter was very hard, and a 5-inch rainfall over 12 hours can introduce problems where there were none.

The prior owner might not have had a clue. And a home inspector can report only on what he or she sees, and won't recommend that you hire an expert to look behind walls unless there is evidence that you should.

Mold is an issue that needs to be addressed because of your grandson, and your kinfolk need a certified mold-inspection firm to investigate.

If there is mold and evidence shows it is a longstanding problem, the inspector should be able to determine the source of the water intrusion. If there is a longstanding problem that was not disclosed, a lawyer is the next step.
