As JK Rowling gets planning permission to construct a summer house inspired by Hagrids hut, we round up five of the best writers sheds. Take a look inside the hideouts which have inspired writers from Virginia Woolf to Henry David Thoreau
Hagrids hut is a refuge for Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley in JK Rowlings popular childrens series. This still from the 2001 adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone shows Robbie Coltrane as Rubeus Hagrid in pensive mood.

Dylan Thomas wrote in a bike shed study perched on stilts on the cliff above the boathouse in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, where he spent the last four years of his life. It is open to the public as part of the Dylan Thomas Boathouse.

Built as a garage by a previous owner, Thomas filled his word-splashed hut with pictures of Byron, Walt Whitman, Louis MacNeice, WH Auden as well as lists of alliterative words. In this 1953 photograph he wears a cast on his left arm after an accident in New York.

Thomas wrote poems such as Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night, Over Sir Johns Hill and Poem on His Birthday inside this hut, with a view of the hills, the town of Laugharne and the Taf estuary below.

Most people testifying Thursday evening about proposed rules aimed at reducing cesspools in the state agreed that protecting water quality is important. But many objected to what they considered draconian measures to accomplish it.
About 40 people attended a hearing in Hilo held by the state Department of Health as it considers rules that would prohibit construction of any new cesspools. It was the last of a series of hearings before the department decides whether to forward the rules to the governors office.
Rules would also require property owners to convert cesspools to septic systems within 180 days after sale of the property and reduce from 50 to 15 the number of dwellings in a subdivision before a centralized septic system is required.
Barbara Bell, in testimony, said she supported several parts of the rules, while she had concerns about the implementation of other parts.
Weve been waiting a very long time for this, said Bell, a former director of the Hawaii County Department of Environmental Management.
Bell called the prohibition against new cesspools a no-brainer, but said there should be some kind of carrot, not just a stick, such as tax breaks for homeowners converting existing cesspools to septic systems.
But several Keaukaha residents said the countys current centralized sewer system isnt so clean either. The county was recently cited by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a failing outfall system that is leaking sewage into the nearshore waters east of Hilo Bay.
John McBride, who lives in Keaukaha, said the individual cesspools in the neighborhood havent caused problems. The problems came about when the county started consolidating the sewage and sending it to his neighborhood, he said.
I get to smell it, I get to taste it in the water, McBride said.
State Rep. Richard Onishi, D-Hilo, Keaau, Kurtistown, Volcano, questioned the process of developing the rules, saying the Health Department should have involved stakeholders early in the formulation of the rules, rather than presenting them as a fait accompli.

A Nashville-based bar and restaurant chain is preparing to renovate the former Hard Rock Caf location on Beale Street.
Tin Roof has applied for a $1.5 million building permit through the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to begin a makeover of the 11,500-square-foot building Hard Rock occupied at 315 Beale St. Founded in 2002, Tin Roof now has 13 locations, and the Beale Street one is the companys first in Memphis.
Hard Rock Caf previously relocated to the Lansky Bros. building at 126 Beale.
Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. says it is opening a new facility in Memphis.
The freight shipping company says it is opening a new 267-door service center on Monday, Oct. 20.
The company says Memphis serves as one of its busiest freight hubs due to its proximity to Interstates 40 and 55, three major rail heads, Memphis International Airport and a busy river port.
Old Dominion says it invested more than $30 million to build the service center after four years of growth at its previous location. With 416 employees currently, Old Dominion plans to create over 100 new jobs in Memphis over the next two years.
The Memphis Service Center provides direct freight service to West Tennessee, eastern Arkansas and northern Mississippi.
Three companies including a wing of Memphis-based FedEx received tax breaks for projects in Memphis that total more than $25 million in capital investment and will create 272 new jobs.

Tin Roof Launching Beale St. Renovations
At 22 stories, the Sunset and Gordon residential tower is the most prominent example so far of Mayor Eric Garcetti's push to make Hollywood a place for high-density, high-rise living.
But the future of that newly completed, 299-unit project is up in the air. A judge earlier this month issued a ruling invalidating the construction permits, saying city officials improperly allowed the developer to demolish a 1924 building that until recently housed an Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant.
City officials say they are still trying to figure out what the ruling means for the 40 or so tenants who have already moved in. Luke Zamperini, spokesman for the Department of Building and Safety, said it is possible the tenants will have to relocate until developer CIM Group obtains new permits. Other officials are hoping it won't come to that.
It's the latest of several setbacks for the city as it seeks to remake Hollywood with a series of big developments. Two months ago, a judge halted construction of a 74-foot-tall Target shopping center on Sunset Boulevard, saying the city had improperly allowed the project to exceed a 35-foot height limit.
Another judge forced the City Council to rescind a controversial 2012 plan allowing for taller buildings near transit stops in Hollywood, concluding the council had relied on out-of-date population data.
Community groups also are waging a legal fight that has slowed the planned Millennium project, a pair of 35- and 39-story skyscrapers. Opponents contend an earthquake fault runs beneath the site and construction is on hold until the case is resolved.
Attorney Robert P. Silverstein, who represented the activists in all four legal battles, said Hollywood's aging infrastructure cannot handle the "densification" Garcetti is planning. Neighborhood groups who are suing, he said, simply want the city to follow the law.
"Instead what we constantly see is a city mentality of throwing the zoning code out the window whenever it benefits a favored developer," Silverstein said.
Hollywood has 1 million square feet of new office space and nearly 1,800 housing units that are either under construction or recently completed, said Leron Gubler, president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Gubler said it makes sense to put office towers and residential high-rises on transit corridors such as Sunset and Hollywood boulevards. "What we're trying to do is create a livable community," he said.
Gubler fears the rash of lawsuits will send a message that it's "difficult" to get projects built in Hollywood.

A reality TV remodeling show doesn't quite share the entire process.
Scot Zimmerman, Renovation Design Group

Everyone knows reality TV isnt actually reality, right? We know an hour in real life is never that entertaining. There is a lot of editing, slicing and dicing behind the scenes to put those shows together.
However, the pop culture of home-remodeling reality shows has a lot of people believing that the TV version of remodeling is reality or very close to it. Yes, those projects really happen, but they are missing a few truths regarding remodeling and are misleading the masses in the process.
Time
Sorry, folks. You cant just go in and look around your house, say, I want a door here, a window here and boom, one hour later, its done.
Obviously, in a one-hour TV show, you cant comprehensively show how a remodel really happens, but you need to understand a large project takes months of planning and more months of construction. While it would be nice to go on a weeklong vacation and have a newly remodeled house waiting for us when we come back, that part is not reality.
While most people are rational enough to understand a home renovation will take longer than a couple of weeks, that same majority still seriously underestimates how long it really will take. Most projects take a bare minimum of six weeks of design and planning to create a master plan, eight to 12 weeks to complete a set of construction documents, another two to eight weeks to obtain a permit, and four to 12 months for construction (depending on the size and scope of your project).
Other scheduling factors to consider include the fact that good contractors are usually booked out two to three months before they can schedule in a new project. In addition, weather and the time of year will impact construction schedules. Many contractors give homeowners the option of either dedicating more time (and budget) to the project for those wet, snowy and blustery days or waiting until spring.
