Lawmaker looks to inmates to cut down trees - October 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Oklahoma is continuing its fight against the invasive eastern red cedar tree.

The tree, which is common in Oklahoma, is extremely flammable due to its tree oil.

This is an Oklahoman problem, state Rep. Richard Morrisette said. I know we can tackle this in the upcoming session.

Morrisette is recommending cities and local municipalities partner with the Department of Corrections and make use of non-violent inmates to do the work. He believes their labor can offset the cost of tree removal.

The city of Owasso has implemented similar practices.

Weve partnered with DOC since 1991, John Feary said.

Some people have expressed concern over the use of inmates but lawmakers and Feary said, if done correctly, there is no public safety threat.

No inmate is left alone unsupervised. Theyre checked every 30 minutes, Feary said. All the inmates and the workers that I've had interaction with, none of them are violent offenders and they dont have flight risks.

Lawmakers continue to monitor the eastern red cedar situation and continue to brainstorm ways to eliminate the estimated 442 million trees in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma County has not made use of inmates to remove any of the trees but it is currently participating in a program to remove red cedars.

Organic Tree Spray, Natural Tree & Shrub Care | Good Nature - October 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Natural Tree & Shrub Care

If you love your trees and shrubs, and know how much it costs to replace them if they die, then you know that it makes sense to spend a small amount annually to protect your largest landscape investment. Now you can keep your trees and shrubs healthy, without spraying poisons into the air around your home.

Chemical Tree and Shrub Programs are not the answer. Chemical Programs pump the plants full of nitrogen, which causethe plants to grow quickly and develop large leaf surfaces. These leaves are really tasty to pests because when you push a plant to grow, it has fewer resources to put into defending itself, sopests love it! Its no wonder that once you start fertilizing your trees chemically, you also happen to need the more poisonous chemicals to prevent pests.

The soil in your yard is not exactly virgin forest soil. In many cases, its recent basement soil doesnt hold a lot of nutrients and can be very low on biology. Soil biology plays a huge role in both feeding and protecting your trees and shrubs from pests. There are studies that show when under attack from a pest, the plant sends a signal through its roots to soil bacteria, which then triggers the plant's natural defense system to discourage the pest. Without good soil biology, youll be more likely to need chemical pesticides! This is why the foundation of our tree and shrub program is adding beneficial microbes and natural botanicals to enhance good soil biology.

An alternative to pesticides, our Tree & Shrub Healthcare Program enhances the biological life of your trees and your soil...instead of creating a chemical dependency. Our compost tea and natural botanical sprays are packed with natural nutrients that are absorbed rapidly through leaves, bark, and roots. Think of these treatments as probiotics as opposed to the chemicals which are antibiotics. We help your plants help themselves and the end result is beautiful plants without all the chemicals being sprayed into the air and soil around your home.

Miracle Method Surface Refinishing Opens in Boise, Idaho - October 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) October 14, 2014

Miracle Method, the nation's leading bathtub, tile, and countertop refinishing franchise, has announced the opening of its newest franchise, located in Boise, Idaho. The Boise location will specialize in the professional repair and restoration of bathtubs, tile surrounds, and kitchen countertops. The Miracle Method process appeals to residential and commercial customers, saving up to 75% over the cost of replacing kitchen and bathroom fixtures.

New franchise owners Greg and Lisa Meier had previously owned and operated an independent refinishing business as well as a bathtub liner distributorship, making Miracle Method Surface Refinishing a natural choice for them. As an independent refinisher, it was extremely difficult to develop systems such as advertising, marketing, and the refinishing process that work as well as Miracle Methods, Meier says. I have always been impressed with the quality refinishing Miracle Method provides. Ive seen tubs over 12 years old that still look great.

Miracle Method is a unique ground-floor opportunity for entrepreneurs looking into business ownership. Miracle Methods reputation for quality, affordable refinishing continues to spread, rapidly increasing the demand for an alternative to home remodeling. I believe that Greg and Lisa will be very successful in Boise, explains John Tubiolo, VP of Miracle Method Franchise Sales. The Meiers knowledge, integrity, and experience will preserve our long tradition of excellence, serving the needs of their customers with both confidence and experience.

Nationally, Miracle Method's customers include not only millions of homeowners but hotels, hospitals, colleges and universities and property managers. The cost to refinish a bathtub is around $500 compared to $2,000 to $4,000 to hire someone to remove a bathtub and replace it. The savings are similar for refinishing tile and kitchen countertops. The Miracle Method refinishing process saves time also, usually taking 2 days or less compared to a week or more for a messy tear-out and replacement.

The Boise, Idaho, location is the newest of more than 135 Miracle Method franchises nationwide and in Canada that have the support of the companys over 35-year reputation of quality and service. For information about owning a Miracle Method franchise, contact John Tubiolo, VP of Franchise Sales, at 877-434-5096 or visit http://www.miraclemethod.com/franchise.

Pssst! The South Western branch of the Embroiderers Guild is making a big artwork that will stretch across a wooden folding screen to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

But what its of is being kept a secret.

Guild president Robyn Archer said members were each embroidering a tile, or square, that wil be part of the screen.

The completed work, that will involve many and varied techniques, will be revealed at the guilds anniversary celebrations on Saturday, November 8.

Creating civic commemorative works is nothing new for the south-west branch.

Early in its development the branch made a contribution to the newly-developed Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village.

Members stitched a patchwork quilt that can be seen today on a bed at the villages lighthouse keepers cottage.

32-year-old Racine woman accused of tampering with sprinkler system at Racine County Jail - October 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

RACINE COUNTY (WITI) A woman being admitted into the Racine County Jail is facing charges after shes accused of setting off the sprinkler system and the fire alarms inside the jail.

    Demetrice Taylor

32-year-old Demetrice Taylor of Racine faces one count of interference with firefighting alarms/firefighters, one count of criminal damage to property and one count of disorderly conduct.

A criminal complaint filed against Taylor says she was locked inside a cell on Friday, October 10th when the fire alarms and sprinkler system were activated in the Racine County Jails intake area. The complaint says Taylor was the single occupant of the cell making her the only person able to tamper with the sprinkler, causing it to activate.

When the fire alarm system is activated inside the jail, the elevators stop functioning and all normal operations in the jail cease until order is restored.

Because this incident occurred in the jails intake area, the entire intake area had to be locked down for safety and security, and multiple officers had to respond to the location and they were taken away from their normal duties.

The Racine Fire Department has to respond to incidents like this one but so that they didnt have to waste time and resources, they were notified immediately that this was a false alarm.

The complaint says police had to enter the cell and transport Taylor to a padded cell for her safety. Thats when the complaint indicates Taylor made a statement to the effect of tampering with the sprinkler system was the only way to get the attention of officers.

It is unclear at this time how much it might cost in labor/parts to replace and/or repair the damaged sprinkler.

Taylor is set to appear in court on these charges on October 30th.

Wall St sheds light on Bill Gross reign - October 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Given the sheer size of the TRF and constant tweaking of the portfolio by Mr Gross, Wall Street dealers and futures markets were never starved of business.

However, the big West Coast playeras Pimco was often dubbed by the Streetfrequently used the power of its $2tn assets to demand steep concessions from the traders who arranged its transactions and the salesman who sold it bonds.

A former bond salesman who worked on syndicating debt deals for investors says Pimco could walk into a pending deal and receive a full allotment of new paper ahead of others.

"When I saw them in deals, they got a full fill no questions asked, even on deals where they came in late," he says. He adds how on hot bond deals that attracted hefty demand from investors, Pimco was an exception to the rule that every bond fund would be scaled back in order to guarantee broad participation.

At times the power of Pimco could help a bank underwriting a bond deal by compelling an issuer to sell debt at a higher cost to guarantee a successful sale that included the bond firm as an investor.

"There is no question that on Wall Street, Pimco would drive a very hard bargain over deals and pricing," says a fixed income trader.

Away from the Street, the massive size of Pimco across markets has sparked tension, notably in Chicago, where Mr Gross and the bond house were often major players in US Treasury futures contracts.

In 2010, Pimco settled a private lawsuit brought by traders, who accused the bond manager of manipulating the price of US Treasury futures back in 2005.

JPMorgan Chase's lower legal costs allow it to return to profitability - October 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    NEW YORK (CNNMoney)

The nation's largest bank by assets bank reported a $5.6 billion profit in the three months that ended in September. It's notable considering the bank has been dogged in recent months by a cyber attack on its accounts, a CEO undergoing cancer treatment and ongoing legal costs related to the financial crisis.

This time last year the bank reported a rare loss due to $9.3 billion it set aside for legal expenses at that time. JPMorgan (JPM) eventually finalized a $13 billion settlement for selling mortgages ahead of the financial crisis.

Despite the better news this autumn, the bank's earnings came in slightly below Wall Street forecasts and shares of JPMorgan fell 1% in morning trading.

The bank's earnings were posted on a website hours before they were meant to be released. A JPMorgan spokesman blamed shareholder.com, a third-party vendor that posts earnings to the site, for the snafu.

"While challenges remain in the global economic recovery, the U.S. economy is an exception, showing signs of steady improvement," said Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon in the earnings release. "Corporate America is in good shape with strong balance sheets and employment trends continue to be positive."

Jamie Dimon is full steam ahead: Dimon himself has been a key focus on the bank's shareholders. He underwent treatment for throat cancer this summer, and just last week he made his first public appearance since finishing his regime.

" I never stopped working, though I did take care of myself, get a lot of rest," Dimon said on a conference call with media Tuesday. " I'm starting to build back my schedule. But I feel good and I'm happy the treatments are over."
