(CNN) -- Matt Damon said it's hard not to see his three daughters in the eyes of the girls he helps on his visits to the poverty stricken villages in India.
CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta sat down with Damon and his water.org co-founder, Gary White, to talk about what their organization is hoping to achieve by providing clean water and sanitation to those who need it. "Our daughters in that situation would be off looking for a water source and hauling water for the family and they would have no prospects for a life or a future," Damon said.
On premises access to clean water is something only one in four people have in India, according to UNICEF.
When Damon got into the water business, he worked with H20 Africa and says he learned a lot.
"I did what I think a lot of people do, which is they kind of get right into the direct impact, like well-digging and how many people can I help if I dig x number of wells," Damon said. But he said as his understanding of the issue grew, he realized that charity wasn't going to solve the problem.
Together, we can solve the water crisis
He teamed with Gary White, co-founder of WaterPartners, in July 2009 and water.org was born.
"Had I stayed with just drilling wells, I'd have reached thousands of people at this point, but by the end of next year we'll hit 3 million people that we've reached this way," Damon said.

Cook up something new for the kitchen -

When Suzy and Ed Smith bought their home in Sandy Springs, the kitchen was a concern. The floor plan was awkward and the space was dark. The frequent entertainers felt the kitchen needed a fresh look.
For help in creating a more functional and easy-to-use kitchen, they called Matthew Quinn, a principal in Atlanta-based Design Galleria Kitchen and Bath and Retrofit Ventures. Quinn helped the Smiths about 15 years ago with their kitchen design and installation during a whole house renovation in Brookhaven.
In the Sandy Springs home, Quinn suggested removing a wall that created more space for a larger kitchen and focal point wall, which includes a 48-inch Wolf range and a Scagliola stone hood with a cold cast copper stack from Francois & Co.
Other updates included: appliances integrated into the cabinetry (a Quinn signature); perimeter countertops made of marble with a leather finish; a nine-foot island that provides eating and work surfaces; an adjacent dining area; and charging station drawers to keep the familys phones, iPads and laptops (cords too) out of sight.
While the Smiths didnt have a clear idea of what they wanted when they first started the project, the couple had a few must-haves: a pellet ice maker (for Ed) and TV, hidden behind a painting. The painting rises at the touch of a button when the family wants to watch TV.
We got the clean, neutral and light-filled kitchen we envisioned, said Suzy, an Atlanta real estate agent. Its classic, timeless and a comfortable place to work, eat and hang out.
The Smiths wanted to update the kitchen for themselves and for their own enjoyment. But because a kitchen renovation is such as large investment, the couple hoped the finished project would look fresh for as long as possible or until they are ready to sell the house in a few years when their daughter graduates from high school.
While no one can say for sure which kitchen features will stand the test of time, Quinn, a leading expert in kitchen and bath design, has some ideas.
At a Sub-Zero/Wolf event earlier this year in Atlanta, Quinn talked about national and Atlanta-area styles and trends, according to the Kitchen and Bath Business magazine (K+BB). Additionally, General Electric and Mary White of Atlanta-based Guy Gunter Home also weighed in on a few appliance trends.

As SCAD students, Michael and Ana Stanley lived in apartments on Peachtree Street in Midtown. Their artistic focus factored in their search for a home, as they envisioned buying a townhome with a modern look inside the Perimeter.
Meanwhile, they told their agent, Patricia Berholtz with Re/Max Metro Atlanta Cityside, that they also needed a fenced space for their pet, a pig named Pepper.
They were surprised to find that former Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox was the seller of the townhome they chose. When the closing took longer than expected, the couple chatted a few hours with Cox and his wife, Pam.
It was awesome meeting him since I grew up listening to Braves baseball and going to many games with my father, said Michael, 25, who works for Dragon Army, a mobile game company.
No. 1
Renovated kitchen
A four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath home on Tilton Lane in Peachtree Corners boasted new granite countertops and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. The hardwood floors also had been refinished with dark walnut stain on the main level, and the bedrooms had new carpet. The backyard also was fenced, but they were unsure about buying an older townhome that may need possible repairs down the road. The townhome, built in 1972 in Gwinnett Countys Lockridge Forest neighborhood, was listed for $300,000.
No. 2
Big townhome
A four-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath townhome on DeKalb Avenue in Atlantas Lake Claire area came with extra space, including a two-car garage. The townhome also had granite kitchen countertops, plus the master bathroom was big enough for a double vanity, Jacuzzi tub and walk-in closet. The DeKalb County townhome was walking distance to Kirkwood Village, Candler Park and a MARTA station. It was built in 2007 and listed for $310,000.

Moths hard on northern Arizona pines -
October 11, 2014 by

The lab countertops at Northern Arizona Universitys School of Forestry are covered with ponderosa pine branches that have several Pandora caterpillars munching away on the needles.
Richard Hofstetter, a forest entomology professor, is studying a population boom among Pandora moths in the northern reaches of the Kaibab National Forest the most seen in the past 20 years.
It stems from a bumper crop of caterpillars last summer, before they burrowed underground and spent a year turning into moths.
Its important to understand our native species, and especially one that has such a high abundance and can outbreak like this, Hofstetter said.
Its especially important, he said, because as caterpillars the insects are prodigious eaters. In great numbers they can seriously damage a forest, as was the case last summer, when 1,000 acres of Kaibab National Forest north of the Grand Canyon wound up completely defoliated.
Shayne Rich, who with her husband owns a gas station near Jacob Lake, said that during a peak in August hundreds of moths would swarm the lights each evening.
It was crazy. As soon as the sun went down and lights came on the moths came out. By the morning a lot of them had died, she said. The whole base where the cars drive was covered in moths. It took a couple hours to sweep up.
Its thought that the Pandora moths population surges around every 20 years due to a virus that controls its numbers dying off.
When there isnt a surge in population, Hofstetter said, over the span of a year researchers will catch 50 to 100 moths. These days their traps are catching 16,000 moths every three days.
Hofstetter said these moths have already laid eggs.

Lee Ainslie went to business school in North Carolina, a hub of the U.S. furniture industry, but when he moved to Dallas to start Maverick Capital after working for Julian Robertson in New York, he had nary a chair.
Literally, we didnt have any furniture between us, we had a futon, Ainslies wife, Elizabeth, said last night at the Cooper Hewitt museums National Design Awards Gala.
To address the situation, some 20 years ago, the couple hired a professional interior decorator, Jane Rejebian, who helped turn Elizabeth into a designer herself.
Ive just loved it, Elizabeth said. Its been a part-time thing for me, something I can do as often or as little as I wanted to do, raising children. The Ainslies have two sons, Ford and John.
Elizabeths style is modern and traditional. I like using antiques, but I love contemporary art.
Her favorite perch at home in Brookville, New York, is watching TV or reading in bed. Her husbands is the comfortable leather chair in my office, he said.
And Lees favorite desk accessory? Its corny, but its the pictures of my family, he said. I have about 20 of them.
Last night the couple were co-chairmen of the National Design Awards, held at Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers. Among the 11 winners were Etsy for corporate and institutional achievement, Narciso Rodriguez for fashion, and Spire, a wearable health-tracking device, in the Peoples Design Award category.
At the Ainslies table: Ellen Niven, who owns a design shop in Locust Valley, New York (leather trays and umbrella stands from Spain are currently popular, she said); Chip Allemann, who works in golf course management, and John Danzer, a garden furniture designer under the label Munder-Skiles.
Elizabeth is a board member of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian National Design Museum, housed in a 64-room mansion built for Andrew Carnegie from 1899 to 1902 on Fifth Avenues Millionaires Row. After a major renovation, the museum will re-open on Dec. 12.
