Mr. Appliance ranked among Franchise Times Top 200 - October 31, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

WACO, Texas (PRWEB) October 31, 2014

The Franchise Times Top 200 is an annual ranking of the 200 largest franchise systems in the U.S. It is based on global system wide sales and the performance of the franchise in the previous year.

For the past three years, Franchise Times has also ranked the next 300 systems for a total of 500 franchise systems on the ranking. Mr. Appliance ranked at 368 on the list.

To determine where on the list a franchise system should fall, Franchise Times uses a combination of companies voluntary reports and publicly available data, including the most recent franchise disclosure documents and Security and Commission filings. To qualify a franchise must be a legal U.S franchise and 15 percent of the companys units must be owned in the United States.

We are honored to be ranked by Franchise Times as one of the top franchise systems in the U.S., said Mary Kay Liston, Vice President of Operations. Our status among the top franchises is a testament not just to our brand, but to our franchisees as well."

Earlier in 2014, Mr. Appliance was ranked on three other awards listings. Since January they have been recognized as one of the Top 50 Franchises for Veterans in USA Today, one of the Top 20 Best for Veterans Franchises by Military Times, as a Top Low Cost franchise by Franchise Business Review.

The Fountain app connects you with home improvement experts right when you need them - October 31, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Internet has revolutionized home improvement in a lot of ways. On the most basic level, increased availability of information has made it easier to do things yourself, and tackle projects that would otherwise require a professional. You can learn just about anything on YouTube, WikiHow has an article for everything under the sun, and theres a forum for practically any other question you might have. The only problem is that, while the Web is great for finding facts and documents, it often falls short for more nuanced questions like, why is my faucet leaking? or does this air filter look clogged?

Fountain an brand new app that recently launched in Beta form aims to solve this problem. Rather than forcing you to scour through forum threads and crowdsourced answer sites, or set up an appointment with a local service professional, the app allows you to video chat with a credible home improvement expert precisely when you need to.

The first thing youll see when you fire up the app is a simple question: What are you stuck on? Answer this question however you like, and Fountains artificial intelligence engine will analyze your responseand then provide you with a curated list of experts who can provide some insight.

Related:Mow your lawn from your smartphone with Mowz

From there, youre free to initiate a one-on-one HD video chat with the expert of your choosing but its more than just a simple Skype call or Google Hangout. The app also allows you to snap photos, annotate themto point out specific problems, and even share links and other relevant information to paint a clearer picture of what youre trying to accomplish. Its basically a faster, more immediate way to get a professional in your house. Instead of calling up somebody you found in the yellow pages and waiting for them to show up at your house, you can connect almost instantly over the web and bring them into your home virtually with the help of a mobile device.

Currently, the app itself is a free download (once youre invited), but each question you ask costs five bucks. But its not exactly a flat fee either your five dollars buys you a certain amount of talk time with an expert, and the time limit varies depending on what youre inquiring about. Youll getabout 15 minutes for Gardening and Plumbing advice, 12 minutes for Appliance repair, and 10 minutes for Interior Design. If you need more time, it goes in $5 increments.

That might sound a bit steep for a mobile app, but when you consider the fact that an in-person service calls can often cost quadruple that amount per hour (if not more), five bucks starts to sound pretty reasonable especially if the service is immediate and on-demand. Find out more or sign up for the Beta program here.

Sac County murder trial moved to Fort Dodge - October 31, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

SAC CITY, Iowa | A judge on Friday moved John Green's murder trial from Sac City to Fort Dodge in Webster County.

Public defender Charles Kenville requested the change of venue Thursday, saying that it would be hard for Green to receive a fair trial in Sac County. Because of extensive media coverage the case has received and the county's small population, the jury pool would be "... saturated with persons with preformed opinions on this case ...," Kenville said in his motion.

Prosecutors did not resist the request, and District Judge Gary McMinimee ordered the move after a Friday morning pretrial conference.

His trial remains scheduled for Dec. 8 in the new location, 45 miles away.

Green, 55, is charged in Sac County District Court with first-degree murder for the 2009 death of his former roommate, Mark Koster. Green is accused of choking Koster to death in Koster's home. Koster's body was found hidden in the basement in 2012, when the new homeowner was remodeling the basement.

Green was arrested in March in Florida.

Kenville said that during depositions, witnesses have said the case was a topic of general discussion in the community, and Sac County's small population increases the chance that potential jurors have talked about the case with witnesses or Koster's relatives.

Two previous Sac County murder trials were moved to Webster County for similar reasons.

Kenville on Thursday also asked that statements Green made to police after his arrest be suppressed because he was questioned without first being advised of his Miranda rights to counsel. Any statements made before Green was informed of his rights should be considered tainted, Kenville said in his motion to suppress.

McMinimee scheduled a hearing on that motion, and all other pretrial motions yet to be filed, for Nov. 19.
