Decks cleared for new flight - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

The confusion over days of operation of Malindo Airs direct flight between Vizag and Kuala Lumpur has been cleared with the airport authorities confirming the original schedule (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) sought by the airline. The airline will begin operations from the city from February 15.

There were doubts over change in the days of operation and even threat of the airline pulling out as the authorities had expressed their inability to provide security on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 10 p.m. due to acute shortage of CISF personnel.

On the plea made by Airport Advisory Board member O. Naresh Kumar, Visakhapatnam MP Kambhampati Haribabu took up the matter with Union Minister of Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju and the problem was sorted at the highest level.

Temporary manpower has been sanctioned for the two additional days on which the airport would now have to be kept open after 10 p.m., Airport Director C. Pattabhi said confirming the developments on Monday.

The issue has once again brought to the fore the acute shortage of manpower at the Visakhapatnam International Airport. At a time when Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been giving a red carpet to entrepreneurs from Singapore, Malaysia and other countries to invest in India, incidents of this nature will reflect badly on the functioning of the government, feels Mr. Naresh Kumar.

Air Costa has announced the launch of Happy Sankranti offer for travellers planning their trips for the upcoming holiday season. Tickets can be booked with one way fares starting as low as Rs.1799 (all-inclusive).

The booking period starts from January 12 to 14 (both days inclusive) for travel period starting from February 1 to April 15, 2015. The fares are applicable for economy class travel. Bookings can be done onwww.aircosta.in, online travel portals and the airlines reservation centre and ticketing offices.

The Railways had conceded the long-pending demand for a halt for Garibrath at Duvvada after several struggles. The halt, to be implemented on an experimental basis from January 14, was announced on December 31, 2014.

Ironically, several emails and SMSs had to be sent to the railway authorities to get the halt included in the e-ticket reservation facility, says Duvvada Railway Users Association secretary K. Eswar. The e-ticket reservation facility was extended only on January 12, just two days ahead of the inaugural halt.

Novalia reveals DJ decks, a piano keyboard and drum pad printed on paper - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Comments(0)

Sound that can come from a piece of paper is the latest technology to cause a stir.

Histon-based Novalia, working with DJ Qbert, has created the world's first interactive DJ decks in an album cover.

The company is also following this up with a printed piano keyboard and drum pad.

"For years, musicians have used record album covers as an expressive tool to display their unique art and creativity, but DJ QBert is taking his cover to a whole new level," says Novalia.

DJ QBert's new album, Extraterrestria, features a new "spin" on album sleeves. With the help of Algoriddim's DJapp and Novalia's touch technology, DJ QBert's Thud Rumble have unveiled an album cover which also can be used as a DJ controller.

The project was publicly funded last year with the help of crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, raising $128,378, far exceeding the goal of $100,000.

Users are now able to run any track through the DJ app via Bluetooth and spin their own remixes simply by using their fingers on the touch-sensitive album sleeve, which features a dual deck and many virtual knobs.

However, there is only a limited quantity available to buy from the Thud Rumble website, as most copies will be donated to those who helped fund the project.

Dr Kate Stone, founder and boss of Novalia and the woman who hit the headlines a year ago when she was gored by a stag and left fighting for her life said: "We believe the future will look more like the past than the present, where beautiful old-school things we love and are nostalgic about will not die as many have said. We hope to breathe life into things like books and album covers, keeping the creativity in physical products alive.

Aboard the USS Fort Worth: One vessel's search for QZ8501 - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

ON BOARD THE USS FORT WORTH: The middle of the Java Sea is where the AirAsia flight QZ8501 lies in fragments and where all the secrets of its fatal demise wait to be slowly revealed.

Search teams have made critical breakthroughs, including locating the aircraft's black box flight data and cockpit voice recorders on Monday, Jan 12. The crew on board the United States naval vessel USS Fort Worth - as of Monday night located just 1.5 nautical miles away from where the mangled tail of the Airbus A320-200 was salvaged - is just one of the many groups of experts in a multinational effort to look for answers.

Under instruction from Indonesia's search and rescue agency BASARNAS, they are to scour large areas of the sea for debris and victims' bodies.

"The coordination with the Indonesian government has been top-notch, said USS Fort Worth Commanding Officer Kendall Bridgewater. They've been very good, telling us where they'd like us to search and providing that focused effort to basically rule out or verify that there's a part of the flight in the area."

They have been scanning the seafloor using a pinger locator and a range of underwater sonar technology, deployed from a small rigid boat known as a "rib".

"Most of what Fort Worth has been tasked to do is to investigate objects that have been picked up by potentially larger sonar equipment and either confirm or deny that they originated from the flight, said Lieutenant John Kennedy from the Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit. So the team has been able to rule out several items of significance so other countries involved in the search don't need to retrace those steps."

The USS Fort Worth is a sophisticated addition to the US 7th Fleet - a force that patrols the largest expanse of water on Earth, including operations in the South China Sea. It is an agile, manoeuvrable and heavily-armed vessel that uses Singapore as a hub to conduct maintenance and resupply.

While the sonar scanners have not located any flight wreckage, the ship's on-board helicopter, an MH-60 Seahawk, has proven its value, having been instrumental in recovering the remains of three victims. "We were able to mark those bodies with some smoke markers and stay on top to make sure those bodies were properly recovered," said Naval Air Crewman Jason Weideman.

The crew on board the USS Fort Worth do not know when they will end their operation. They say they will continue for as long as they are asked or as long as it takes, proof of the multinational commitment to bringing closure to the families of the victims of this disaster.

With the black box now found, and strong indications about the location of the plane's fuselage, those families are that much closer to closing this chapter of uncertainty.

Wicomico Homeowner Convicted of Illegal Sewage Discharge - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

BALTIMORE, Md. - Authorities say a Laurel, Delaware woman is convicted of environmental crimes after they say she rigged an illegal system to divert raw sewage into a Chesapeake Bay Tributary.

Attorney General Brian E. Frosh made the announcement Monday. He says Marie J. Marius, pleaded guilty last week to misdemeanor charges of water pollution and the improper alteration of a sewage system at a home she owns with her husband on Bi-State Boulevard in Delmar, Maryland.

Frosh says Marius must pay $12,000 to the Maryland Clean Water Fund and perform 75 hours of community service. Retired Judge John L. Norton also ordered during her sentencing in Wicomico County District Court that she will be on probation for three years

"When people willfully and knowingly take steps that harm our environment, we will not tolerate it," Frosh said. "This was an egregious case, and I am glad that justice was served."

Frosh said the case stemmed from a complaint lodged by tenants who moved into the house in 2013. In February 2013, authorities say the tenants contacted the owners, Marius and her husband, Darnell, to tell them that sewage was backing up into sinks and the bathroom tub, the toilet wouldn't flush, and that strong odors were permeating the house.

Authorities say the Mariuses then hired a worker to install a discharge pipe from the failing sewer system into a wooded area of the backyard, which is adjacent to Wood Creek. The pipe allowed sewage to flow into the creek, which is a tributary of the Wicomico River, which flows into the Chesapeake Bay. The tenants told Wicomico County health officials that Marie Marius came to the property to monitor the work being done, as well as to provide payment to for the installation.

After pleading guilty, Frosh said Marie Marius was sentenced to pay a $35,000, with $23,000 suspended, meaning she must pay $12,000 immediately. She also received a six-month jail sentence, which was suspended.

Frosh also said the contractor, Charles Elzey, was charged with two counts of water pollution and 11 counts of installing or altering a sewage system without a permit, and the case is scheduled for trial in Wicomico County Circuit District Court in February.

Police say the illegal system was in place for several months. The septic system has since been repaired and the environmental damage cleaned under the direction and supervision of the Wicomico County Health Department.

Frosh thanked the Attorney General's Environmental Crimes Unit, including Assistant Attorney General Michelle Barnes and unit investigator Bill Schmidt, who worked with the Wicomico County Health Department on the case.

Outdoor homescapes - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

In the Victorian era, porches were considered essential extensions of the well-dressed homes. They were havens for womens charitable society meetings, gracious teas and dinner parties, and discreet courting under the stars. After World War II, when countless Victorian homes were torn down to make way for modern, low maintenance houses, the front and the back porches, wraparound veranda, and side porch often took a backseat to the popular patio designs of the day. Today, however, the porch is enjoying a renaissance, as people everywhere are discovering that this outdoor room not only adds beauty to their homes facade but helps protect the home from the suns intense rays, saving on air-conditioning costs. The porch also provides a warm weather living room for entertaining, alfresco dining, reading, and meditating, and it is a superb place from which to watch nature. While some homes have a traditional open-air porch, others have screened porches to keep insects and animals at bay. A new favorite is a convertible porch, which can be adjusted to serve an open, screened, or totally enclosed porch with glazed inserts. Other delightful outdoor living spaces that can promote hospitality or quiet relaxation include open-air decks, romantic courtyards, sunny patios, loggias (roofed galleries on the side of homes), and decorative gazebos.

Part of the joy of creating outdoor living rooms is that they can be simply or elaborately furnished and still feel enchanting, for nature is always there to provide dramatic lighting, cooling breezes, and calming fragrance, color and sound. A wide variety of outdoor furnishings is available, such as classical or ornate cast-iron garden benches, tables, and chairs; colorful Parisian bistro chairs; minimalist metal, teak, and mahogany furnishings; and ancient-looking garden benches crafted from stone. Synthetic wicker is a favorite all-weather material for outdoor rooms of every style. Synthetic mesh hammocks, woven cotton hammocks, and wooden porch swings are also popular. Outdoor furnishings crafted from branches, roots, and twigs are also sought after.

MyHome Completes Upper West Side Apartment Renovation - January 13, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 13, 2015

MyHome, the Manhattan-based renovation company, recently completed a total apartment renovation at 130 West 67th Street in Manhattan. The project was designed by senior MyHome Remodeling Consultant,Ben Pitt. Pitt and his team were tasked with completely transforming a dated, post-war floorplan into an open and vibrant design that reflected his clients contemporary tastes.

This was accomplished by removing the kitchen walls to create an open floorplan with a 2-tiered counter-bar and expanding the bathroom into an otherwise unused long hallway. The kitchen utilizes the same high-end frameless grey-striated thermofoil and black quartz-composite countertops that reappear throughout the apartment in the built-in entrance dry bar, bathroom storage and living room built-in. The design is further unified by the cognac-stained fossilized bamboo floors throughout and the watermelon-red shoji screens (previously painted black, the only pre-renovation feature that the designer suggested keeping).

Above the built-in living room cabinetry is a custom designed, 1 thick floating open-backed shelving unit spray-finished in powder-coat black that extends over a small built-in home office at end of cabinetry. Pitt suggested that the kitchen and bar cabinetry, which are visible from living room, should be broken up with some aluminum-framed frosted glass wall cabinet doors and a luminescent glass mosaic backsplash of purples, blues and greys.

The newly expanded bathroom features an 8 tall white-glass entrance door to allow in natural light, an electric towel warmer and plenty of storage in its floating vanity with custom countertop-banjo shelf and shallow-depth linen cabinet. The sleek porcelain tiles change from black to white at the shower entrance and the large custom-size shower stall accommodates a corner shower bench. The frameless clear glass sliding shower door, with its minimum hardware, is a welcome finishing touch.

MyHome was founded in 2001 by managing partner Yoel Piotraut. The company, which is based in New York City, has a team of fifteen consultants, designers and managers. MyHomes New York City kitchen and bath showroom is located at 353 West 48th Street in Manhattan. Ben Pitt has been working with MyHome since 2003. He previously worked as an industrial designer, designing kitchen products for companies such as KitchenAid and Cuisinart after graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design.
