With Dundee United debt-free following the sales of Ryan Gauld and Andrew Robertson last summer, McNamara is in the rare position of having some modest transfer funds at his disposal during this window and plans to use them to strengthen his attacking options.
Only last week, the Tannadice side clinched the signature of Arbroath striker Simon Murray for a fee of about 50,000. He will continue his development at the League Two leaders on loan until the end of the season, but the spending on the squad is unlikely to end there.
"If we see something, a bit like what we did with Charlie, then we can do that," McNamara said. "People say 'look what they paid', but for me that is a bargain. For me he was one of the best players in the Rangers academy and the boy is a talent. We ended up paying more to Queen's Park for Andy Robertson than we did to Rangers for Charlie."
McNamara, whose side take on their surprise fellow European contenders Hamilton Accies tomorrow night, is hardly a stranger to transfer intrigue at this time of year.
Twelve months ago, it was the likes of Gauld, Robertson and Gavin Gunning, all of whom remained until the summer. Now it is the turn of Gary Mackay-Steven, linked last week with Sheffield United, Stuart Armstrong and Nadir Ciftci, both of whom have been mentioned in dispatches with Celtic.
"For me, I am hoping it is more in than out," McNamara said. "That is me coming up to two years here now and every window has been the same.
"The same questions, just different players. It is something I obviously have to live with and is something that is testament to the kind of players I have here."
United would dearly love to add the same defensive parsimony currently being exhibited by Aberdeen to the attacking flair which has made United the SPFL Premiership's top scorers.
Robertson's replacement in the left-back role, Conor Townsend, who is on loan from the Scotland international's club Hull City, hinted last night that his move to Tannadice could be made a permanent one.
"I don't know what's going to come up, but I'll never say no," Townsend said. "The gaffer spoke earlier in the season about me maybe being able to stay and it's something I'd be open to.

Sydney FC's summer of shopping in the transfer window has been kept in the family literally with new Senegalese signing Jacques Faty the cousin of their other new signing, Mickael Tavares.
Faty arrives at the club as a product of the famed French youth development school at Clairefontaine, with a decade of experience in Ligue 1 at clubs such as Rennes, Marseille, Sochaux and Bastia, along with a stint at Turkish club Sivasspor and most recently with Chinese Super League clubWuhan Zall.
The 30-year old will join the club as an injury-replacement for Sasa Ognenovski, meaning he will get four months to prove to coach Graham Arnold he is worthy of a permanent deal. "Jacques is a very experienced defender having played regularly in one of the top leagues in the world," Arnold said. "I am very pleased to be able to add him to our back four as I believe his defensive abilities and leadership qualities will prove extremely valuable to us throughout the remainder of the season."
Faty said he was "very happy to join this famous team", claiming he'd "heard a lot of good things about Sydney FC" and the A-League before committing to a stint in Australia. "I know [Alessandro] Del Piero did well in his time there," he said. "And I know some French players who play in the A-League, [Melbourne Victory duo] Matthieu Delpierre and Falid Ben Khalfallah, who have told me what a big club they are and how good the league is."

He's also looking forward to linking up with his cousin for the rest of the season. "Our mothers are sisters and it will be a double motivation to play well for the team and for each other," he said. "We used to play together as children and also for Senegal together and now this is another great challenge for us."
Faty captained France's under-17 team to being world champions in 2001 before switching his international allegiances to the homeland of his parents and has the experience of having marked some of the best players in the world.
"I've played nine years in the top league in France and two years in Turkey," he said. "I won the World Cup with the French national under-17's playing against the likes of [Fernando] Torres, [Carlos] Tevez and Robinho so I have some experience I can bring to the team."
The Sky Blues are slowly rebuilding their squad after copping a run of four season-ending injuries just a few weeks apart. Arnold is still likely to look for another player to replace Corey Gameiro in attack. Faty, however, should solve the defensive and leadership problem left by Ognenovski's absence.

Improving the kitchen -
January 12, 2015 by
Mr HomeBuilder
Another holiday season has passed, and with it the marathon cooking and baking sessions. The hours spent using every kitchen appliance and inch of counter space had a potential benefit more lasting than a good meal: When we really use our kitchens, we discover what does and doesnt work in this very important room.
Remodeling a kitchen can be expensive and challenging, but you can make substantial cosmetic changes with just the help of a painter and electrician, says interior designer Betsy Burnham of Burnham Design in Los Angeles. And if youre ready for even bigger changes, its still possible to stay on budget and create a gorgeous kitchen with a minimum of stress.
Step one is deciding what really needs to be done. Can you work with the appliances and cabinets youve got, or is it time for a full-scale remodel?
Step two is the budget, coming up with a realistic estimate for each expense, says designer Brian Patrick Flynn of Flynnside Out Productions.
Then, the fun can begin. Three areas where a little improvement can go a long way:
Storage
A smoothly functioning kitchen has space for everything to be stored away, within reasonable reach. Can you achieve that with your current cabinets? If so, Flynn suggests keeping them and just replacing or refinishing the doors. Cabinetry installation adds a lot to a budget, he says, so saving by simply reusing what youve got can be a massive help.
If your cabinet doors are stained wood, consider painting them. Then, change the hardware. Drawer pulls and cabinet door handles can make or break the look of the space, says Lee Kleinhelter of the Atlanta-based design firm Pieces. Take time choosing new ones.
Flynn agrees: I always use high-end hardware regardless of how high or low my budget is, he says. Adding an interesting metal and finish to your doors just really adds character and uniqueness. You can never go wrong with dull black pulls and knobs, and Im also a huge fan of antique brass. When it comes to silver tones, I try to stay classic and go with polished nickel.
If you do need to add or replace cabinets, Burnham suggests having them custom-made. It can be expensive (Flynn estimates that ready-made cabinets cost about one-third as much as lower-end custom designs). But they are worth the investment, Burnham says. Youll get well-made pieces, built to your needs, that will last through time, kids and tons of use.

Much ado about an office building -
January 12, 2015 by

Two important State agencies the Police Department and the Mysore City Corporation appear to be at loggerheads over the construction of a new office building for the Mysuru City Police Commissioner.
Months after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone for the mammoth building to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 14 crore on the Police Band Bungalow premises, city councillors objected to it saying it was being constructed without obtaining prior permission from the MCC.
Turning their ire towards MCC Commissioner C.G. Betsurmath for remaining a mute spectator to the ongoing illegal construction, the councillors demanded that a notice be issued to the Police Commissioner to stop the work.
But, Police Commissioner M.A. Saleem was in no mood to oblige the naysayers. There is no need for the Police Department to obtain a building licence from the MCC, he said, citing exemption for construction of police buildings under the Karnataka Municipal Act.
Why was the MCC silent when the Police Department constructed more than 20 buildings in the city in the last few years, he asked.
A new building was also constructed on the City Police Commissioners office premises in Bengaluru. Sources in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike said the civic bodys permission was not required for the building as it was constructed by the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation Ltd.
Kannada activist and former MLA Vatal Nagaraj will win hands down if there is ever an award for the most eyeball-grabbing protest. His modes of protest range from threatening to urinate in public while demanding construction of toilets to riding a chariot around Bengaluru on Valentines Day in solidarity with young couples targeted by Right-wing activists.
The ever-in-the-news leader has a penchant for using animals in his protests.
Donkeys, buffaloes and cows have routinely walked with him on his marches.

Much ado about an office building
Charlottesville, VA (PRWEB) January 12, 2015
The Modular Building Institute would like to announce the Building of the Month for January 2015 is Modular Genius modular addition to a Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, DC. Modular construction was used in this project to fit a tight schedule and an even tighter workspace.
Modular Genius, Inc., Mobile Modular Express, and a veteran-owned contractor completed the two-story, 14,600 square-foot VA hospital addition over the summer of 2014. Comprised of twenty-four modules, both floors are designed to include private offices, conference rooms, storage rooms, electrical & data closets, utility closets, open office spaces with cubicles, kitchenettes, and restrooms, as well as two stairwells and one elevator. The addition utilized high-end, upgraded design specification to match the existing medical center building.
In order to maximize campus real estate and to eliminate any loss of parking spaces, the new modular building addition was strategically tucked into an area where three sides of the existing building surround it. Modular construction was chosen for this project for speed and to minimize disturbance on site. A special delivery and traffic plan was required for the building modules and construction materials so the main entrance and main loading dock area to the hospital was never blocked or compromised.
Installation and construction occurred from Friday to Sunday, with the core building put into place over these three days. The addition attached to the existing building with a site-built entry vestibule and a corridor to create two seamless access points to the newly constructed permanent modular building addition
# # # About the Modular Building Institute: Founded in 1983, the Modular Building Institute (MBI) is the only international non-profit trade association serving modular construction. Members are manufacturers, contractors, and fleet owners in two distinct segments of the industry - permanent modular construction (PMC) and relocatable buildings (RB). Our Mission: As the Voice of Commercial Modular Construction, it is MBI's mission to expand the use of offsite construction through innovative construction practices, outreach and education to the construction community and customers, and recognition of high quality modular designs and facilities.
