Several weeks ago I was heading out the door to a dinner party. In one arm I held a big salad bowl. In the other was a glass jar of salad dressing I had just made. As I tried to manuever open our heavy front door, the jar slipped out of my hand. In slow motion I yelled "Noooooo!" as the glass shattered on the wood floor and the contents splattered all over the wall and our cheap apartment carpet.
You guys, I was so upset. I was already late to this party and all I wanted to do was sit down in the middle of this puddle of oil and vinegar and cry. Instead I picked up the glass pieces, did a quick wipe up with paper towels and left the big clean up until later. Over the next few weeks I tried every carpet cleaner at my local grocery stores (yes, plural). Nothing was working. And my front entry way continued to look like this.
Ididn't want visitors because it was so embarrassing. No, this condo is not our own but I like to live in cleanliness so I continued to try to clean it with no luck. Then my mom came to visit and suggested I try white vinegar. I didn't really give it much thought because it seemed either too easy or too smelly.
Well, this weekend I had enough. I searched for a remedy and found it! Of course, it contains white vinegar because my mother is always right. So I'm going to share with you my wisdom because I'm sure I'm not the first person to spill oil-based something on their carpet (right?).
1. Scrape up the liquid (I had already done this weeks ago).
2. Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch on stain to let absorb for 10 minutes and then vacuum.
3. Mix one tablespoon clear dishwashing liquid and one tablespoon white vinegar with two cups of warm water.

A 26-year-old woman remained in critical condition Tuesday, the day after she was injured in a hit-and-run crash in St. Paul. Police said they had arrested a woman believed to be the driver of the second vehicle.
Sophia Bouwens of St. Paul was taken to Regions Hospital with head trauma, police said. She is an acupuncturist and married with two young children.
The crash happened about 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood. A car ran a stop sign at East Sixth and North Cypress streets and hit Bouwens' car, striking it "so hard that it was pushed through a retaining wall and into the house behind that wall -- the jaws of life were used to extract her from the car," according to a CaringBridge site.

Bouwens sustained several jaw fractures and a fracture at the base of her skull and spine; she'll likely require multiple surgeries, the site said.
People nearby heard a loud crash and saw that two cars had collided, said Sgt. Paul Paulos, St. Paul police spokesman. No one was injured in the house that was struck.
Witnesses reported three people who had been in the other car had left -- two males helped a woman walk away, Paulos said. Police learned the woman might be in a residence in the 900 block of Hudson Road, just under a mile away.
About 11 p.m. Monday, officers went to the Hudson Road residence and knocked on the door. The car's registered owner, Danielle Denay Sivels, opened the door. Police reported Sivels, 30, of St.
Officers also identified the two male passengers, who were not arrested, Paulos said.

Decks cleared for Paapanasam -
March 18, 2015 by
Mr HomeBuilder
In a relief to the makers of Paapanasam , starring Kamal Haasan and Gauthami, a second additional court in Ernakulam has quashed the case filed by a Malayalam writer, Satish Paul, who had alleged that the plot of the film, based on the Malayalam film Drishyam , was similar to that of his book Oru Mazhakalath.
He had filed a case in a court in Ernakulam claiming that the Malayalam film had been made without his knowledge. He was granted an interim order stopping the shoot of the Tamil remake.
The court has ruled in favour of the producers of Paapanasam , clearing the decks for its release.
The makers have said the release date will be announced soon.

George R.R. Martin is clearing the decks tofinishThe Winds of Winter.
With HBOs Game of Thrones expected to move into previously uncharted narrative territory next year, the author told his readers Monday night that hes skipping the World Fantasy Convention in Saratoga and the mega Comic-Con fan event in San Diego this year. Martin has typically participatedeither as a moderator or guestin the HBO shows Comic-Con panel. Plus, his publisherRandom House typically has a party at the event, with Martin as the guest of honor. Martin previously opted out of writing an episode of Thrones for season 5, which premieres April 12.
I have too much to do, Martin explainedon his blog. Too many things on my plate. Son of Kong foremost amongst them. (Son of Kong being a pet termMartinuses forTWOW).
But then Martin added something interesting:Should I complete and deliver Winds of Winterbefore these cons roll round, I reserve the right to change my mind.We almost certainlyshouldnt read too much into this. Butthisseems to suggest Martin sees the light at the end of the tunnel for his sixth A Song of Ice and Fire novel as the first of these fan events is only four months away.
One chip in Martins corner is that the serialized and segmented format of his books (which rotateperspectivebetween various characters usingpoint-of-view chapters)tend to lend themselves to different possible stopping points. His last book, 2011sA Dance with Dragons, was originally supposed to end deeper into his saga. So, in theory, Martin could choose to turn in whateverhe has completed and then save the rest for his final planned book, A Dream of Spring.
