HISAR (Haryana): A church under construction was demolished in Haryana's Hisar district on Sunday. The miscreants even hoisted a flag with "Shri Ram" written at the site in Kaimri village, 10km from here.
Sources said villagers were angry over the priest's alleged efforts to convert some of the local residents.
Police have registered a case against 14 people named by the priest and started investigation into the matter. But no arrests have been made so far.
"Believers Church" is a Christian denomination with congregations and parishes across the world.

President of All India United Christian Front Sukhdev said, "This is a matter of shame that the villagers demolished a church. We will hold a press conference in Hisar soon and request the SP to take action against the culprits".
Village sarpanch Dalbir Singh told TOI, "There is not even a single Christian family in Kaimri village. Priest Subhash is trying to convert some of the families by luring them with money, food and other facilities."
"The villagers who have been booked by the police on the complaint of the priest were not involved (in razing the structure). The land where the church was being built was bought by him (priest) from some society and it had even issued a notice to him about the illegal construction of the church. The priest is engaged in occult practices for conversion," Dalbir alleged.
Asked about the flag on the church wall, the villagers refused any knowledge about it. One of them said some children must have hoisted it.

Church under construction razed in Haryana's Hisar, 'Ram' flag hoisted
When Fort Lauderdale's Flagler Garden got under way three years ago, the enterprise glowed with optimism. The spot of land donated by the First Evangelical Lutheran Church was supposed to lease plots to neighbors to grow their own food. Roughly $100,000 was raised to initiate construction of the garden.
But all that may be in limbo.
Chad Scott, president of the nonprofit Flagler Garden group, suggested that "the church could be in some financial trouble and is considering selling the land" after he spotted a 'For Sale' sign on the property.
Interim church pastor Rev. Paul Pfadenhauer said "somebody has been dispensing a lot of misinformation."
"Membership has been holding up quite well, the state of the church is high expectant, we are set for growth," he said. "These matters have not even been discussed by the congregation. The 'For Sale' sign is not on the Flagler Garden property. It's on adjacent property."
"It's my policy not to discuss clients' ongoing business," said church attorney John Stroup. "There have been some bad economic times and it is common knowledge that churches don't have the same attendance they've historically had."
Victoria King of Castelli Real Estate, the agency behind the 'For Sale' sign, said the church is not for sale. What is for sale, King said, is a fenced-in property south of the church that contains the community garden.
Scott said the 'For Sale' sign was moved recently but that construction of the garden is still on hold.
"The $100,000 is in limbo since construction is stalled until the situation is clear," he said. "We don't know what will happen. We hope to have additional information from the church council soon. If the property is sold, this might be an opportunity for the city to get more involved and help us find a space. It's in their 2035 visioning plan to have a garden in every neighborhood."

Villagers in Haryana's Hisar allege conversions, miscreants raze church
Haryana police has booked 14 people on charges of vandalising an under-construction church in Kaimri village of Hisar district.
The case was registered on a complaint lodged by Father Subash Chand of Williwarsh Church in the village. He alleged that the accused broke the cross and installed an idol.
Earlier on Sunday, an under-construction church was demolished in a village in Hisar.
Miscreants responsible for the attack even hoisted a flag with "Shri Ram" written on it at the demolition site in Kaimri village.
Reports said villagers were angry over alleged efforts by a priest to convert some locals to Christianity.
The reports further said that police have registered a case against 14 people named by the priest and started investigation into the matter. So far, no arrests have been made.
A panchayat has been held in the village and it has been decided to take the issue to Hisar's deputy commissioner.
Villagers claimed that the priest, Subhash, had bought the piece of land to build a house, but started constructing a "Believers Church" instead.
"Believers Church" is a Christian denomination with congregations and parishes across the world.
The president of All India United Christian Front, Sukhdev, was quoted, as saying, "This is a matter of shame that the villagers demolished a church. We will hold a press conference in Hisar soon and request the Superintendent of Police to take action against the culprits."
