Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) March 13, 2015
Housing prices in BC are on the rise in the first quarter of 2015, with the median price of a single-family house in Richmond, Burnaby and Vancouver exceeding $1 Million, reports the Vancouver Sun at http://goo.gl/UiXIAs. Despite soaring prices, the commercial activity in the housing market has not slacked. According to the Vancouver Sun, sales in all housing categories, including attached units, were 15 per cent above the 10-year sales average of the first quarter. In such conditions, homeowners looking to sell their houses can increase the aesthetic appeal of their property by implanting residential and ornamental fences. Luckily, QS Fencing's latest range of residential fences can help increase the aesthetic appeal of the property, helping owners make the most of the rising prices in the city.
Residential fencing comes in many different varieties, ranging from the traditional white picket fence to the more modern aluminum fences. Adding an ornamental fence installed by the professional and trained staff at QS Fencing Company can make the property more welcoming, accentuate the look of the garden or yard and add a modern touch to the overall look of the house. These fences can make the property look more beautiful and help the homeowners take advantage of the rising prices. Well-maintained and aesthetically appealing properties attract more real estate investors and often sell at higher prices than their bland and boring counterparts.
About QS Fencing Established in 2010, QS Fencing is a young family-owned business that aims to provide quality products and superior service. It is a Vancouver Fencing Company that is licensed and insured. All their employees are WCB insured as well. Gov. Cuomo is swinging for the financial fences just months after he won a second term and hauled in a record $44 million.
Cuomo has scheduled at least two fund-raisers, one April 7 for $15,000-a-head at the Mutual of America building on Park Avenue and another April 24 at Yankee Stadium when the Bronx Bombers play the Mets in the Subway Series. Tickets for that event are going for $5,000 a pop.
Word of the high-dollar fund-raisers comes as Cuomo is locked in tough negotiations with lawmakers to adopt a new state budget by April 1. His spending plan includes authorizing public financing of campaigns to reduce reliance on fat-cat contributions.
The early fund-raising shows that Cuomo is not closing the door on running for a third term.
Lobbyist James Featherstonhaugh said he received invitations for the events and expects the solicitations to keep coming.
Cuomos campaign declined to comment.

NEW YORK | A former electrician convicted more than a decade ago of murdering his girlfriend's multimillionaire husband argued Friday that he should get a new trial.
Attorney Richard Mischel told a New York appeals court that Daniel Pelosi's conviction in the bludgeoning death of Ted Ammon was tainted by prosecutorial misconduct and the release of secret grand jury material.
The sensational 2001 case attracted national headlines and prompted a made-for-television movie; after the killing, the Long Island construction worker married Ammon's wife, Generosa, and later moved into the home where Ammon was killed.
Pelosi is serving a 25-year sentence.
Mischel alleged that Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Janet Albertson prejudiced the jury by demonizing Pelosi because of a "personal animus" for him after it was revealed that Pelosi had threatened Albertson and her children. Pelosi later pleaded guilty to making the threats.
Mischel contended the prosecutor's hostility toward Pelosi influenced her questioning, and that she had "baited" Pelosi when he took the witness stand in his own defense.
"This was nothing short of a mugging, a courtroom mugging," Mischel said. Albertson did not immediately respond to a request for comment through the DA's office, but Assistant District Attorney Thomas Costello, who is handling the appeals case, said she was "well within the bounds of prosecutorial conduct."
Mischel also argued that prosecutors should not have released the testimony of two witnesses who testified before the grand jury.
Ammon, who made his fortune working on corporate takeovers in the 1980s and '90s, ran the private equity firm Chancery Lane Capital and was chairman of Jazz at Lincoln Center. He had homes in London and Manhattan, along with the Long Island mansion where he was killed.
Pelosi disregarded the advice of his attorneys to testify in his own defense, offering up what Albertson later called "disastrous testimony."

Greece, N.Y. - A homeowner in Greece is upset saying that RG&E crews wouldn't help after ice caused wires to come crashing down on his property.
"it sounded like a plane landed on my roof, it just came down. There was probably 600 pounds of ice down there and it hit the wire going across my driveway and took it down and the wire was hanging in my driveway. A live wire," said George St. George.
St. George says he called the utility company and was told a crew would come right out.
When he came home from work that night, the wire was still there, along with a note from RG&E.
St. George says that he was told he had to hire an electrician to take care of the wire.
In a statement, RG&E said "in general, we are not responsible for damages that are caused by your use of electricity on your premises."
St. George wants to be this to be a lesson to other homeowners. If a wire that is not attached to a utility pole comes down on your property, you may have to fix it yourself.

BUILDINGS -- Shielding against energy loss ...
Air seeping from buildings is responsible for a large amount of wasted energy each year. To combat the problem, researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory collaborated with the Dow Chemical Company to develop a sprayable liquid flashing that is more cost-effective than traditional sealing materials such as peel-and-stick tapes. The new technology can be used in residential and commercial construction, and its ease of use results in increased energy savings and decreased labor and installation costs. Additionally, the liquid sealing performs well on substrates that are difficult for tapes to adhere to such as masonry blocks and exterior grade drywall. Dow introduced the LIQUIDARMOR technology to the U.S. market in September. [Contact: Morgan McCorkle, (865) 574-7308; mccorkleml@ornl.gov]
TECH TRANSFER - Innovations showcase ...
Business leaders, entrepreneurs and community members will get a chance March 25 to see emerging technologies available for licensing from Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee. The Fifth Annual Spark! Technology Forum will feature innovations in biotechnology, computational and cyber security, materials and materials processing, and sensor and detector systems. One innovation is a seed-coating treatment shown to increase soybean and snap bean yields while reducing seedling diseases in snap beans. On the cyber security front, researchers will demonstrate a technology that can recognize malicious software even if the specific program has not been previously identified as a threat. Other technologies to be showcased include a new process for separating and purifying rare earth elements needed for electronics and an off-axis iris recognition system with potential uses for identification and verification. Registration information is available at http://www.ornl.gov/connect-with-ornl/for-industry/partnerships/events-and-conferences/spark-2015. [Contact: Ron Walli, (865) 576-0226; wallira@ornl.gov]
MANUFACTURING - GE Appliances, ORNL sign agreement ...
GE Appliances will be working with Oak Ridge National Laboratory to test the waters for innovative products before making multi-million dollar investments. GE's FirstBuild business model takes advantage of advanced technologies and manufacturing techniques to perform rapid prototyping and low-volume production and validation of concepts through low-volume sales. Success at these volumes -- 20 to 30 units -- will enable GE Appliances to justify the significant investment needed to move graduates of the FirstBuild process to full production. The arrangement, which will take advantage of ORNL's Building Technologies Research and Integration Center and the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility, was finalized with the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding. CYBER - Security focus of conference ...
Hundreds of the nation's premier cyberspace researchers will gather at Oak Ridge National Laboratory April 7-9 to participate in the 10th Annual Cyber and Information Security Research Conference. The event will bring together cyber security researchers, program managers, decision makers, security vendors and practitioners to discuss challenges and novel solutions related to cyber security. "Cyberspace is fundamental to our national prosperity as it has become critical to commerce, research, education and government," said Joe Trien, co-general chair. MATERIALS - Better innovation through imaging ...
Researchers should not have to rely on mere trial and error to create materials for energy applications. To accelerate discoveries that underpin economically important innovations, an Oak Ridge National Laboratory institute takes a new approach by bringing together atomic-scale imaging and computation to find a needle of new knowledge in a haystack of data. "Microscopy gives us eyes to peer into matter more closely than ever before to gain unprecedented insight. Big data allows us to comprehend what we are seeing and use that new knowledge to predict the properties of materials we design," said Sergei Kalinin, director of ORNL's Institute for Functional Imaging of Materials. Since the institute's launch in June, its researchers have submitted several reports of accomplishments to journals, and its first publication is forthcoming in Nature Communications. Solution: Full-depth asphalt repair
Alligator cracking is a visual sign that the existing pavement structure can no longer support the loads exerted on it. The entire area must be excavated and replaced with a full-depth layer of new asphalt. It would be less expensive to cut out the damaged areas and replace with a layer of crushed stone and new asphalt, but it takes several days for stone to set up properly and it must be flooded with water to achieve density. This is usually not feasible in a repair scenario for a pavement system that is currently in use (see seminar section of new construction).
The networked cracks on the top surface are an indication of instability in the lower levels of the pavement system. For this reason, the area must be excavated 1 beyond the cracks on the surface. Each patch should be a minimum of 4 wide to accommodate the full width of a small steel wheeled roller.
Areas to be repaired should be rectangular and encompass the entire cracked area. Wherever feasible, it is best to combine several small areas in to one large repair. A series of small patches with intact asphalt in between, left untouched, will usually create more repairs in the near future. The base layer in the untouched areas will be less stable than the repaired areas and will be pounded by traffic that rolls from a strong to a weaker surface.
Property Manager Hint: Walk the entire parking lot with an estimator and place small paint dots on the outer edges of all cracked areas. Once these have all been sprayed, stand back and create a series of rectangles to encompass the cracked areas. Number and measure each area and note on a site plan.
The design depth of the repair is dependent on the traffic loads, the strength of the sub-grade and the years it is expected to last. Evaluate these three factors for a particular pavement system when choosing a design depth of pavement.
The number of heavy truck axle loads exerted on the pavement system is a measure of the traffic loading. Car traffic is almost irrelevant in this consideration since heavy truck loads can be equivalent to 30,000 car loadings.
The strength of the sub-grade most often is visually measured in a proofroll process. The pavement system is excavated and removed and a loaded truck is slowly driven over the sub-grade. Any significant deflection is marked and measured.
The depth of the repair is directly related to the life of the repair. The deeper the repair the longer it will last. Carolina Asphalt has installed thousands of tons of asphalt repairs forover 20 years in the Carolinas, and our experience has given us the following guidelines for depth of repairs. 4 depth: Car traffic only, no truck traffic expected
Parking spaces in an apartment complex with a centralized dumpster in the front of the property would be a good example.

A father and son have been arrested and charged in what Howard County police are calling a driveway paving scam that involved four North Laurel residences.
Paul Frank, 48, and his son Spanky Frank, 19, have been charged with four counts each of selling home improvements without a license and acting as a contractor without a license, police said.
A third relative, Ace Frank, 22, is being sought on an arrest warrant for the same charges, police said.
Police said the three Franks reside out of state, but are staying at a residence in the 8600 block of Contee Road in North Laurel.
In February, four homeowners -- three in the 9600 block of Baltimore Avenue, one in the 8600 block of Tower Drive -- were solicited by men later identifiedas Paul, Spanky and Ace Frank, for driveway re-sealing services, police said.
In each case, police said the men charged higher for the agreed-upon price and the work was completed poorly.
Through their investigation, police learned the Franks bought black paint, mixed it with gasoline and then used the mixture to 're-seal' the driveways, police said.
Neither of the three men possesses a contractor license, as required by the State of Maryland, police said.
Spanky Frank was released from the Howard County Detention Center on $2,600 bond. Paul Frank was released on $10,000 bond.
Police are asking for the public's help in capturing Ace Frank.
