Cardinal Newman Catholic Secondary School graduate Taysia Radoslav lighting up track at Cornell University

    By Laura Lennie, News Staff

Taysia Radoslav is well on her way to leaving a lasting footprint on the track at Cornell University.

The 18-year-old sprinter, hurdler and Cardinal Newman Catholic Secondary School graduate has two freshman indoor records under her feet at the Ivy League school in Ithaca, N.Y. and no plans to slow down her pace anytime soon.

So far my performance on the track has surpassed my expectations for myself, she said. As I started competing this year, I was running faster than I had hoped. It allowed me to have the opportunity to sit down and re-evaluate my goals and strive to make bigger ones.

Radoslav earned a bursary for her athletic and academic achievements to Cornell.

She garnered almost 40 medals on the track at sprint indoor and hurdle outdoor meets, as well as maintained an honours student average throughout her four years at Cardinal Newman.

Radoslav made her debut with the womens track and field team at the university during the Beantown Challenge event on Jan. 17 at Harvard University.

She raced her way to an individual best in the 200-metre sprint with a time of 25.40.

She also ran a personal best in her leg of the four-by-400-metre relay.

MI5 blocked police investigations into sexual abuse at a childrens home to protect their intelligence gathering operation, campaigners will tell the High Court today.

Victims of abuse at the Kincora childrens home in Northern Ireland have accused senior members of the security services of colluding in protecting abusers from being investigated or prosecuted.

Campaigners are taking legal action at the High Court in Belfast to force a full independent inquiry with the power to force MI5 witnesses to testify and release documents.

Montgomery County Council building overhaul on hold — Gazette.Net - March 11, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Tom Fedor/The Gazette

Legislative Information Officer Neil H. Greenberger sits in an original auditorium behind the Montgomery County Council office building in Rockville. The space, still used regularly, is filled with outdated lighting, seating and tables.

Two Montgomery County school board members are criticizing a plan to spend up to $36 million on new or improved County Council quarters.

The school districts headquarters also are in poor condition, the board members said, calling for a higher priority on building schools.

The council office plan is on hold, but a council member said thats because of disagreement on how to proceed, not the school boards criticism.

The heating, ventilation and air conditioning in the Stella B. Werner Council Office Building in Rockville has been a problem for years, and many restrooms dont comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, according to a county memo.

Conditions are bad, Council President George L. Leventhal said. The building is in disrepair.

Because of a leak that sprang last week, the office of Councilman Sidney Katz (D-Dist. 3) of Gaithersburg had a plastic tarp, a hose and trash can to contain water coming in on Monday.

The council is mulling two options: renovate the current building or move to a new site.

The first option is to replace the HVAC system, lighting and windows; upgrade restrooms; and renovate a first-floor auditorium. It also would involve overhauling fourth-, fifth- and sixth-floor space to make more room for council staff and the Office of Legislative Oversight. That would cost about $31 million.
