(KMOV.com) About 12 people rallied outside the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Thursday to protest the racial disparity in employment in the St. Louis region.
White unemployment in the St. Louis area is 5.7 percent, African American unemployment is 14.1 percent. Organizers said they want the Fed to adopt policies focused on getting more people get back to work.
Its not easy getting a job, when you are qualified even when you look the part, one demonstrator said.
Organizers said the story of one attendee demonstrates the problem.
When you do get the job, its something to get you buy, but its not a livable wage, Ray Rounds said.
Rounds said he left a low paying job to go back to school at the Green Technology Training Program at St. Louis University.

A fast-moving four-alarm fire torched the rear porches of a three-story apartment building in Dorchester tonight, forcing a crowd of frightened residents out into the cold and leaving about 30 people homeless, a fire official said.
First arriving crews had heavy fire on the rear porches and so they went to the second alarm, and rapidly went to a third and a fourth, Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said. It just rolled sideways across the porches, which were all wooden.
Boston firefighters responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a porch fire on Washington Street at 7:05 p.m., MacDonald said.
Three brick buildings, which housed nine apartments, suffered an estimated $750,000 in damage, he said.
The fire was extinguished shortly before 8 p.m.. There were no reported injuries and about 30 people were displaced as a result of the fire, MacDonald said.
Fire officials are still investigating what sparked the blaze.
