New York Liberty Announce Additions to Basketball Staff - March 26, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

March 26, 2015 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) New York Liberty NEW YORK, NY - March 26, 2015 - The New York Liberty announced today that the team has named Herb Williams and Katie Smith assistant coaches, and Teresa Weatherspoon director of player development. Per team policy, terms of the deals will not be disclosed.

"In her first season, Katie showed that she has the leadership and communication skills required to be an excellent coach, and I expect her to contribute even more this year," said Liberty Head Coach Bill Laimbeer. " Herb will have instant credibility with our players, and his extensive bench experience will be invaluable to our team. When he told me that he would be interested in the job, it was a no brainer to bring him on our staff."

"As a player, T-Spoon was legendary for her work ethic and constant dedication to improvement," said Kristin Bernert, Senior Vice President of Business and Basketball Operations, New York Liberty . "She will lead our efforts in making our players the best they can be both on and off of the court, with a primary focus on skill development this season"

Williams returns to Madison Square Garden after spending 13 seasons as a coach for the New York Knicks (2001-2014), which marked the longest tenure of any on-the-bench assistant coach in franchise history. He first joined the Knicks' staff as an assistant on Dec. 29, 2001, and on two occasions, took the helm as the head coach. The Ohio State alum played in the NBA for 18 seasons with the Pacers, Mavericks, Knicks, and Raptors, averaging 10.8 points and 5.9 rebounds in 1,102 career games. Williams was a member of the Knicks' 1994 and 1999 Eastern Conference Championship teams and became the oldest Knick to ever appear in a game (41 years, four months, nine days) during Game Five of the 1999 NBA Finals against San Antonio. On Feb. 20, 2012, he proudly accepted the distinguished Dick McGuire Knickerbocker Legacy Award.

Smith returns to the Liberty for her second season as an assistant coach. A 14-year WNBA veteran, Smith played on four different teams (Detroit, Minnesota, Washington, Seattle) before spending her final season with the Liberty. Appearing in 448 career games, Smith averaged 13.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. Smith is the all-time leading scorer in women's professional basketball, having notched over 7,000 points in both her American Basketball League and WNBA career. The Ohio State graduate holds the distinction of being the first female Buckeye athlete to have her number retired and is an Olympic gold medalist, winning gold three times with Team USA in 2000, 2004 and 2008.

A Liberty legend, Weatherspoon joined the team in the WNBA's inaugural season in 1997, leading the Liberty to the first-ever WNBA Finals. That same year, she became the league's first winner of the Defensive Player of the Year Award, winning again the following year. Following seven seasons with the Liberty, Weatherspoon signed with the Los Angeles Sparks in 2004, retiring at the end of the season. During her time in the league, Weatherspoon started 220 straight games and led the Liberty to four WNBA

Finals appearances in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2002. Weatherspoon began her coaching career as the head coach of the Westchester Phantoms of the American Basketball Association in 2007. In 2008, she joined the coaching staff of the Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech, where she was the head coach from 2009-2013. Weatherspoon was elected to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.

Living Green: Energy audits can find home inefficiencies - March 26, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

LAS VEGAS -Energy auditor Bill Douglas is on the hunt - looking for ways your home wastes energy.

Everywhere there is something bolted or screwed to the wall or ceiling, there is the potential for air leakage, he said.

That's costing you money and robbing you of the comfort you deserve.

Lisa Weatherman and Andy Kirk have owned their 2,400-square-foot home for approximately 15 years. Even after some remodeling and upgrades, they say they can still feel some energy aches and pains in their older house.

I knew it was drafty in here, and I'm always cold in the winter and hot in the summer, Weatherman said.

The eco-minded couple says they felt their power bills were high.

To some extent, our bills don't reflect our thriftiness and our sense of efficiency, so we knew that things were not perfect, Kirk said.

They called Marc Hale, a contractor who specializes in home energy performance. He investigated why Lisa was freezing and helped satisfy Andy's frugal spending habit.

Hale and Douglas discovered a lot air coming through plumbing fixtures below the sink.

A visual inspection showed the aging 50-year-old home was letting air in and out in unsuspecting places.

Rockford approves bids for Riverside Park Shelter construction - March 26, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    by Megan Hopps

    SUN PRESS Newspapers

The city of Rockford met with architect Steven Binnech to review the plans for the new shelter to be built at Riverside Park.

Binnech presented the final design of the project to the council with alternate line items that may be pulled from the project if necessary due to budget restrictions. The council expressed interest in installing heating and cooling capabilities, but City Administrator Dan Madsen cautioned against it for cost reasons. He added, however, that potentially adding heating and cooling units could serve as an opportunity for community groups to organize a fundraiser to assist with purchasing the needed equipment and in return would earn naming rights to the new facility.

    Riverside Park Shelter

Last fall the city demolished the old park shelter at Riverside Park and began formulating plans to make improvements at the site. Binnech was hired by the city in December 2014 to design the new park shelter.

Weve worked through various challenges with flood plain designations, sought comment and review from the DNR, FIMA and cleared with the league that this building could be covered under insurance, Madsen said. Weve worked with the planning and zoning team and city planner to figure out what we need to do to have a building this size located on the flood fringe. After a lot of revisions and design changes, Mr. Binnech has a final design plan to review with us tonight.

Rockfords Park Board reviewed and approved the plan before it came before the council.

Their two requests were to, at some point, add heating and cooling to this building with installation of an HVAC or some sort of climate environment control, and also to try to construct the entire shelter and not do it piece by piece in two or three steps, Madsen said.

Madsen added that if the plan is approved by the council, the project would open for bids April 9, with construction to tentatively begin April 20.

Goodman Property JV to Auckland tower - March 26, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Wynyard Precinct Holdings, a joint venture between Goodman Property Trust and Singapore government-owned GIC, has agreed to buy an office tower in Auckland's Wynyard Quarter from Fletcher Building for $86.2 million.

Fletcher Construction expects to complete the office building, which is substantially leased to Datacom, in March 2017.

As well as being part of the group that has conditionally agreed to buy the building, Goodman has agreed to fund the cost of the development until settlement, it said.

Fletcher has separately retained Goodman to provide development management services on the project.

The Overseas Investment Office approved GIC's investment in the joint venture in January.

It owns 49 per cent of a property portfolio initially valued at $313m and with a target to grow to $500m.

GIC is a global investment firm with over $US100 billion ($NZ131.67b) of assets under management.

John Dakin, chief executive of Goodman Property's manager, said the deal with Fletcher "was facilitated through Goodman's relationship with Fletcher Building".

They also worked together to develop Fonterra's corporate headquarters on the same site and are developing the six-level VXV3 building directly behind the Fonterra building.

"Neighbouring our existing Viaduct assets and in an area of substantial private and public development, it's a compelling investment opportunity," he said.

Britcos Agassiz office building won a prestigious award at the recent Modular Building Institute Awards.

The beautifully-designed office earned top honours in the Permanent Modular Office category at the awards night, held in Las Vegas March 16. The office building, which was in full operation by last August, features vaulted boardroom ceilings and modern finishes as well as expanded office space for the growing company. The six modules were built right at the Agassiz plant and was designed so it can be easily expanded as more space is needed.

Britco also won an award for a bank building in High Level, Alberta, recognized in the category of permanent Modular Retail or Hospitality.

These projects truly show the innovation and flexibility that modular construction offers, said Mike Ridley, president of Britco. Were very pleased that the Modular Building Institute recognized the hard work of Britcos design and construction teams.

The Modular Building Institute is a non-profit trade association representing companies in Canada, the United States and 14 other countries involved in the construction and distribution of commercial modular buildings.

Entries were reviewed by an impartial panel of industry and non-industry construction and code experts, architects and engineers, and marketing professionals. Building entries were judged on architectural excellence, technical innovation and sustainability, cost effectiveness, energy efficiency and calendar days to complete.

Britco is a Langley-based company, with modular construction facilities in Agassiz, Penticton and Edmonton as well as in the United States. Britco is one of the largest commercial modular construction companies in North America, providing temporary and permanent residential and commercial modular buildings. The company has had operations in Agassiz since 1988.
