Superheroes take up grime-fighting as window washers at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center – Omaha World-Herald - August 2, 2017 by Mr HomeBuilder

The sun glinted off Lola McKamys iridescent pink cape as she strolled through the lobby of Childrens Hospital & Medical Center. Two of her brothers, Henry and Finn, followed close behind in red capes.

Then Lola, 3, zipped ahead and announced, Theyre here!

A special crew piled out of an ambulance: Batman, Robin, Superman, Spider-Man and Captain America. The superheroes visited the Omaha hospital Monday and swapped crime-fighting for cleaning. Before washing the six-floor hospitals windows, they met and posed for pictures with eager young patients and families in the lobby.

This was the fourth year that Buck McGraw, who strongly resembles Bruce Wayne, and his colleagues from Fisher Building Services have dressed up on the job.

Donning the costumes makes window washing a little tougher and hotter but it cheers up the patients.

Theyre not here because its summer camp, so we want to make them smile, McGraw, er, Batman said. When they come up to the windows and you see them smiling, its worth it.

The McKamy trio, of Concord, Nebraska, was at the hospital to visit their newborn brother, Huxley. The baby underwent surgery for Hirschsprung disease, a condition affecting the large intestine.

Meeting superheroes made the hospital visit a little more exciting, said their mother, Brooke McKamy.

After Lola landed photos with each superhero, she ran over to give her grandma a high-five. And Finn, 15 months, took to the Caped Crusaders sidekick, Robin.

After the superheroes visited in the lobby, they headed to the hospital roof, where, still in capes and full costumes they fastened their harnesses and ropes.

The special guests were well-received, but some kids, including Zoe Groff, hoped to spot Wonder Woman.

There was a boy Wonder Woman, Zoe said. Her mom laughed the little girl was referring to Captain America.

The 6-year-old, at the hospital for a heart condition, was taken by surprise when the cleaning crew knocked on the window. Later, her twin sister Chloe pressed her hands against the glass and peered down, watching the cleaners outside, floors below.

It boosts your spirits, and its something different, said the Lincoln twins mother, Lacey Groff. I think its just awesome they dress up to do the windows.

Luke Schwarz of Winslow, Nebraska, took a break from sorting his football card collection to watch Spider-Man and Captain America scrub the windows with soapy water and squeegees. The 8-year-old, who was hospitalized for issues with diabetes, crouched on his rooms window seat as the heroes slowly descended from the roof.

It definitely makes (being in the hospital) easier. Its more entertainment than staring at these four walls, said mom Amanda Schwarz.

Balcony collapse victims sue for negligence, claim another deck failed – ABC6OnYourSide.com - August 1, 2017 by Mr HomeBuilder

Roger and Arlene Guess are still recovering from their injuries that occurred in late May, at the Falls at Hayden Run Condominiums in northwest Columbus. (WSYX/WTTE)

A father and daughter are suing Lifestyle Communities and a condominium association after falling from a collapsed balcony, leaving them barely able to walk.

Roger and Arlene Guess are still recovering from their injuries that occurred in late May, at the Falls at Hayden Run Condominiums in northwest Columbus.

The lawsuit, filed in Franklin County Common Pleas Court, alleges at least one other balcony had fallen in their community and the defendants neglected to make the necessary repairs and inform those who live there.

Its alleged that only 16 small nails measuring 2.5 inches secured the balcony to the home and sunk into the framing a half inch. The lawsuit also stated there are gaps around all of the balcony headers and no siding, allowing water and weather to get in.

The biggest failure with decks is the attachment of the ledger plate, deck builder Brian Mechtley said. Its an easy thing to do properly and its done improperly so often.

It was determined by the City of Columbus that the nails and lack of lag bolts was the probable cause for the collapse.

Roger Guess suffered two shattered legs, went through several surgeries and is now in rehab. His daughter, Arlene, is recovering from a fractured pelvis, a broken hip and fractured vertebrae. She cant even go up the stairs.

While a deck should hold six to eight people and roughly 2,400 pounds, this one didnt. The suit alleges that decks were not checked or repaired sufficiently following at least one other balcony collapse prior to May 30, at the Falls at Hayden Run.

In the previous collapse, the lawsuit said decks were not repaired sufficiently and those that were, had the deck shoved up against the main unit where it was pulling away and lag bolts were installed in a few locations.

Someone screwed up, condo owner Maggie McGinty said. Im not understanding how that happened.

Neighbors were upset after the City of Columbus inspected and deemed 156 decks were unsafe. The city no longer has the original blueprints.

An order by the city required the Falls at Hayden Run Condominium Association start making repairs within 30 days. The board hired an engineer and told homeowners via email that it received all bids, selected a contractor and was waiting on city approval.

In a follow-up report, ABC 6/FOX 28 reported on what the engineer found and the repairs needed for the unsafe balconies.

ABC 6 On Your Side Investigates has repeatedly asked, called and attempted to make contact with Lifestyle Communities and the Association. So far, there has been no comment, response, or acknowledgement.

They should be calling you back and saying were doing everything we can to fix these decks, McGinty said.

A homeowners contract stated the association is to maintain the structural portions and exterior of all buildings. Its yet another reason the Guess are suing for negligent design, construction, maintenance and repair, among other things.

The lawsuit claimed Lifestyle Community elected to use shoddy construction practices on structural components of the buildings to maximize their profit regardless of the safety issues and the risk of serious bodily injury or death.

In this case, the suit claimed the car parked underneath the deck may have saved Roger and Arlene Guess lives.

Hearthstone: Crypt Lord Reinforces Token Druid Decks in Frozen Throne – PVP Live - August 1, 2017 by Mr HomeBuilder

Token Druid players get a new option for theirFrozen Throne decks withCrypt Lord, a Druid common minion. This card has a symbiotic relationship with the numerous minions a Token Druid player summons and buffs, protecting them withTaunt while each summoned minion adds health back to Crypt Lord.

This card can replaceTar Creeper in Token Druid decks. It has stronger synergy with the low-mana minions that players put on the boardwith the healing factor, while Tar Creeper's plus-two attack during the enemy turn is self-contained.The downside is that Crypt Lord's return attacks kill fewer minions than Tar Creeper.

The new Druid Legendary Hadronoxhas a late-game synergy with Crypt Lord. Playing Crypt Lord on one turn, then Hadronox the next, can summon back enough minions to give Crypt Lord a significant health boost, especially for Beast Druid players. If other Taunt minions with greater health are on the board, they canconvince opponents to go after them, leaving Crypt Lord to stay on the board and get healing for several turns.

Another synergy exists with Spreading Plague, which summons a one-attack/five-healthScarab with Taunt, and repeats until the player has as many minions as their opponent. If the opponent on turn eight has more minions, the player can drop Crypt Lord then Spreading Plague to create a wall of Taunt minions. The one attack base stat for this wall means they won't kill anything but the weakest minions that hit them, but they will protect a Druid's non-Taunt cards.

Crypt Lord may see use with theLiving Manaspell. On turn 10 or later, this floods the board with 10 two-attack/two-health Mana Treants while protecting them with an at least 16-health Crypt Lord. This is going all in with a flood of minions in a late-game scenario. The risk at any time is that the Taunt prevents the Mana Treants from dying and returning the mana crystals to the player. However it's used, the synergy discouragesthe opponent from using AoE spellsto return those empty mana crystals.

Players are sure to find other synergies, as any card that summons extra minions helps Crypt Lord give Token Druid players more control of the board. The common rarity means that Druids opening packs should earn this card from packs quickly, giving them plenty of reason to experiment whenKnights of the Frozen Throne hitsHearthstone in August.

Loving Leopallooza – decks and mud and rock and roll – Cornwall Live - August 1, 2017 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Comments(0)

Whether you are a music festival organiser or punter there is an inherent risk with such events in the UK in that you are always at the mercy of the weather gods.

And so it was for Leopallooza which was beset by rain which managed to washout the BBC Introducing stage on Friday but hardly hampered the rest of the event.

Festival revellers are hardy souls and a bit of rain and mud wasn't going to spoil their fun at the self-styled "greatest house party in a field".

The joy of Leopallooza is that it really does feel like a party with your mates that everyone has been invited to there is a relaxed and friendly feel to everything.

It also operates on a small scale which means it has kept its unique charm it is probably the best atmosphere I have ever experienced at a festival.

The other great thing about Leo is that it is the perfect place to discover new music I had hardly heard any of the bands and artists on the line-up but it didn't matter, armed with a programme and an open mind I was ready to go on a new music discovery.

So I was introduced to the likes of The Modern Strangers, Flamingods and The Japanese House who all entertained me on Friday evening and will definitely be ones that I will be searching for online.

READ MORE: These pictures prove Port Eliot Festival was still a huge hit despite the mud

Main stage headliners The Cribs are more used to playing on much bigger stages so it was a joy to see them giving them all to the slightly damp masses at Leopallooza and they didn't disappoint with their brash and energetic indie rock.

Our reviewer Richard Whitehouse has a go at Beer Ping.

I wasn't quite done after that so I took a quick detour to the Mono tent where Jim Jones & The Righteous Mind were playing a blistering set which was an ideal way to end a Friday night.

Saturday morning brought clear skies and the day's entertainment was kicked off by The Rezner on the BBC Introducing stage with their vibrant indie sounds a perfect starter for the day.

The main stage was launched by Dusk At Dawns who managed to get bleary-eyed campers dancing around to their stomping country blues rock. Interesting takes on Jay Z and the Bee Gees made for an entertaining set.

Leopallooza's set-up means you can find a spot in the main arena and watch a continuous stream of music between the main and second stages with nary a turn of the head.

And so we did for Ruarri Joseph and his William The Conqueror band who delighted with a set showcasing their latest record.

READ MORE: Why the Underworld will be the secret highlight of Boardmasters

The Tuesday Syndicate were fine but a bit bland while Blue House were just odd. Keston Cobblers Club got us back on track and, being a big fan already, it was a joy to see them in Cornwall.

Throwing in tracks from their back catalogue alongside those from their recent Almost Home record mixed up with dance routines they brought a smile to everyone's faces in the rain.

Maximo Park are always good value as a live act and they proved their worth through the relentless rain with Paul Smith surely one of the best frontmen around.

I accepted defeat on Saturday night the rain was too much and, as much as I love Leopallooza, my bed was calling my weather-beaten body.

Thanks Leo, it was a blast, we'll be back next year.

Hearthstone’s new Priest legendary is the most ridiculous card since Yogg (and players already love it) – PC Gamer - August 1, 2017 by Mr HomeBuilder

There's always one in every Hearthstone set. A card so ridiculous that the community freaks out at first sight and starts theorycrafting decks for it. In past expansions the likes of Emperor Thaurissan and Reno Jackson filled the role of one-card marketing campaign, while Yogg-Saron also ticked many of the same boxes, going on to become perhaps the ultimate meme cardwe just didn't realise how powerful it was at first.

All your decks are belong to us.

Now we likely know what "that card" is going to be for Knights of the Frozen Throne. The expansion is due out next month and Blizzard is currently in card spoiler mode. Last night it revealed a Priest Legendary called Archbishop Benedictus which is absolutely bonkers. The text reads: "Battlecry: Shuffle a copy of your opponent's deck into your deck." That's right, when you play Benedictus your opponent's entire remaining deck gets added to your own in a random order.

Great. The most kleptomaniacal of all Hearthstone's classes can now steal every single card in your deck at once. Given that control Priest decks often look to drag games out interminably long, it means you're almost never going to run out of cards before your opponent doesunless they're playing Jade Druid, in which case you can both "go infinite" with Jade Idol.

The reaction from streamers, pros and the wider community has been a mixture of excitement and bewilderment. Here's what Jason "Amaz" Chan, long considered one of the most prominent Priest players in Hearthstone, had to say last night: "At the airport coming back home, and then open Twitter to find this. Oh. No." And here's the verdict from 2016 European Spring Champion Thijs "Thijs" Molendijk:

Meanwhile, the thread on r/hearthstone dedicated to the card has cruised past 1,800 comments, the second most popular of which reads: "They've gone mad". Over on r/CompetitiveHS, where more sober heads reign, the general sentiment was that the card sounds like incredible fun but is almost certainly bad in terms of high-ranked play. There were some dissenters, though, such as user BlueTigerOrpheus, who admonished the buzz killers:

"I'm utterly flabbergasted by and disappointed with the lack of imagination in this thread, to be frank. Benedictus is a clear value-oriented legendary, meant to be dropped roughly a bit after halfway through the game. It enables Priest to run a heavier draw engine, grab a mix of the opponent's threats AND removal from any deck that's mid-range or slower and perhaps similar to Entomb and Elise gain the ability to forego running a multitude of top-end at all in favor of anti-aggro tech. Benedictus IS the Greed You Need."

I don't think it's ever going to actually be good outside of a metagame full of matchups that are regularly decided by fatigue.Brian Kibler

Bold words, and with an effect this unusual, it's tricky to evaluate the power level accurately. I decided to askBrian Kibler, popular Hearthstone streamer and no stranger to greedy Priest decks, what he thought. "Archbishop Benedictus is one of the weirdest and craziest cards we've ever seen in Hearthstone, but I don't think it's ever going to actually be good outside of a metagame full of matchups that are regularly decided by fatigue," Kibler told me. "That won't stop me from playing with it for some hilarious moments, though."

Implicit in Kibler's evaluation is the unlikelihood of a fatigue-based meta ever developing. Fatigue happens when you run out of cards and begin taking exponentially more damage on each subsequent turn, but Blizzard is on record as saying it prefers a shorter average game length than matches which go to fatigue. Hearthstone's core mechanics have also meant that tempo-based aggressive decks are always strong, and there's no reason to think that won't be the case with Knights of the Frozen Throne.

What plenty of players also fail to realize is that in a card deck more does not necessarily mean better. In fact, given the choice you would usually benefit from running a smaller deck, because the logic is that you would remove whatever your weakest cards are (some will always be worse than others), and therefore draw your best, and most synergistic, cards more reliably. Which also begs the question, what kind of Priest deck wants to dilute its potential draws with all the stuff your opponent is playing. If you're up against a greedy control Mage then pulling his Alexstraza or Ice Block might be sweet, but against a Token Shaman do you ever want to be top decking Flame Elementals?

So no, my gut feeling is that Archbishop Benedictus is not a good card. In terms of winning games, it's probably a spectacularly bad one. But it's also the kind of effect that those of us who love Hearthstone will get a rush from seeing happen, especially on those occasions when it ends up giving the Priest player a hilariously lucky series of stolen cards. Will it make the cut in our best legendaries list? Almost certainly not. But praising Yogg is so 2016. This year the memers will be praying to Benedictus.

Jimmy Fallon breaks into YouTube gaming with Clash Royale deck vid – App Trigger - August 1, 2017 by Mr HomeBuilder

You wouldnt think it by looking at his face or watching his show, where he constantly laughs at mild stuff he thinks is too inappropriate at PG-13, but Jimmy Fallon is close to 43 years old. The host of The Tonight Show has always kept a youthful heart, wearing it on his sleeve especially when it comes to gaming. He has been at the forefront of mainstream acceptance of gaming and has even worked major gaming device reveals into his show.

Instead of playingMario Kart 8 with NASCAR drivers or debuting the PS4 with Ice Cube,Jimmy Fallon has taken to his shows YouTube channel to debut some mobile gaming content; going through hisClash Royale account to show off his decks. In this video, Fallon shows us what makes up his ultimate 2v2 deck, showing more genuine commentary and enthusiasm than he does interviewing guests on his talk show.

His main deck contains a Level 6 Poison, Level 8 Muskateer, Level 8 Giant, Level 5 Witch, Level 10 Minions, Level 11 Zap, Level 5 Prince and Level 5 Baby Dragon. You could almost say the most valuableClash Royale card Jimmy Fallon has is his credit card, as he also demonstrates all the investments hes made in cards he doesnt even use anymore, such as Goblin, Ice Golem and others.

To be fair, even though he has likely thrown a lot more money intoClash Royale than I have, Jimmy Fallon certainly knows how to play the game. He demonstrates it with a 2v2 match with a random against a random team, knowing when to take out towers, knowing what damaging spells to use and how to get the drop on opponents with his late-game Giant.

Its funny to think that Jimmy Fallon might have a better personality as a gaming enthusiast than anything else right now, as he shows the right amount of cynical sarcasm and game awareness to separate himself from the rest of the YouTube gaming pack. At least hell always have a fallback!

A New Book Tells The Story of The Library Card CatalogA Library of Congress employee recently published a book on the history of the card catalog. According to author Peter Devereaux, the card catalog proved to be one of the most versatile and durable technologies in history. Devereaux relates the story of S. N. Cramer, a Sumerian historian who found a piece of a cuniform tablet about 2 inches by 1 inches that served as a clay library index card. Cramer found the tablet near the ruins of Nippur and dated the tablet to 2000 BCE. For those contemporary students used to looking up references on a library computer, this book provides a picture of how earlier societies organized information. Moran Studio Will Celebrate Final Stages Of Restoration On August … – 27east.com - August 1, 2017 by Mr HomeBuilder

    By Julia Halsey

After a five-year period of restoration, East Hamptons first artists studio is open once again.

The charming cottage called Moran Studio, built by painter Thomas Moran in 1884, is not only a local landmark, but a nationally designated one as well. While it served as workshop for Moran and his wife, Mary Nimmo Moran, the studio was also a family home with a flourishing garden.

The home was occupied by the Moran family until Thomass death in 1926. It was privately owned until 2004, when it was given to Guild Hall, the theater and museum in East Hampton Village. Then in 2008, the Moran Studio was given to the Thomas Moran Trust Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of the studio, to undertake the restoration of the building, which began in 2012 and is set to be complete next June.

Five years after beginning the project, plaster is now being put up on the studio walls, something that Moran Trust Fund Executive Director Jill Malusky said people have been dreaming about. The studio will be open to the public for the first time in several years at the Moran Trusts gala on Saturday, August 5, when all proceeds will aid the final stage of restoration.

To be in the final phase is meaningful, Ms. Malusky said. For people who are aware that Thomas had a studioeven when the studio was in private handsthey always had an interest in it because they knew how important Moran was as an artist, and the fact that he lived in East Hampton was very special.

The restoration will bring the home back to how it appeared in the 1800s and debut a 19th century gardeninspired by Mary Nimmo Morancreated by the Garden Club of East Hampton.

The Moran Trust raised the necessary funds through annual benefits and appeals and received help from individuals interested in art who are passionate about the studio.

On their journey, the members of the restoration team found more than they bargained for. Just a couple of weeks ago, they came across a giant piece of well-preserved fabric wallpaper that Moran had put up himself.

Ms. Malusky and the Moran Trust also witnessed first hand how much Moran loved to salvage items throughout his home. For years, there was a wooden panel above the fireplace that was missing, explained Ms. Malusky. As it turned out, Moran had taken that panel and used it as a door. The missing piece was right there all along, she said.

Once the studio is complete, the Moran Trust is planning on working with the National Park Service to display an art exhibition including Morans paintings of Yellowstone Park, which helped push the site toward becoming a national park. The trust is also set on using the building as a museum and educational arts center, which will feature classes, workshops, tours and lectures.

The Thomas Moran Trust Party will be held on Saturday, August 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., and will feature the unveiling of the Mary Nimmo Moran-inspired garden. Tickets start at $150. Free walking tours of the studio will be held on Friday, August 11, Friday, August 18, and Sunday, August 27. For tickets and more information, call 631-324-0100 or visit thomasmorantrust.org.
