After years of insisting a curious blanket fold on a guests bed was a rocket ship, Kate Chastain from Below Deck finally comes clean.
During a special appearance in Columbus, Ohio, Chastain admitted that the blanket art was no rocket ship. A packed crowd heard the big news first as Captain Lee Rosbach joined Chastain at a Stars Marketing Group event hosted by Colin Macy-OToole from Below Deck Mediterranean. The conversation was light and Rosbach was in a jocular mood as he was the one who finally got Chastain to admit her true intention behind the blanket design.
Even though most fans know Chastain was creating a phallic symbol to grace guest Dean Slovers bed, she continued to smile slyly and insist she was merely creating a rocket ship. But finally, indeed she admitted her intention and Rosbach seemed downright giddy that he finally busted her.
The conversation flowed on stage as Chastain accidentally admitted the rocket ship blanket was sculpted into a phallic symbol. Oops. There was no way Rosbach was going to let that go. A d**k blanket, Rosbach exclaims as the crowd loses their collective minds. It was a rocket ship up until this point! It is now officially a d**k blanket! You are so busted.
Rosbach laughs like he just struck gold. You are so busted, he remarks. Chastain, who is now laughing too says, I am! Rosbach continues to laugh, You have officially admitted it was a d**k blanket.
Rosbach then turns to the audience and says, You guys are the first to hear this! She has gone on numerous, numerous interviews and said its a f**king rocket ship. You guys are here to hear this first, its a d**k blanket. Chastain turns to Macy-OToole to ask what shape he thought she created. Its definitely a rocket ship! Macy-OToole exclaims.
Slover started out on Chastains bad side, but quickly became one of her favorite guests. When he first appeared on Below Deck, he kept needling Chastain to smile more, which made her feel uncomfortable. He pushed her so far that she took her aggression out on the blanket in his stateroom. I have never used my blanket folding to get revenge prior to this, mostly because Ive never had to, she toldBravo. Walking into the master stateroom I was simply planning on doing the anchor as usual, but the next thing I knew I had madesomething else.
Initially, it looked like the blanket fold could have gotten Chastain fired. Slover coyly mentioned it to Rosbach and didnt indicate whether or not he was angry. She squirmed the entire charter and the crew became furious with her because if Slover was angry it would negatively impact their tip.
Thankfully as the crew lined up for Slovers departure, he said he found the blanket fold to be hilarious. He left a generous tip and returned again. At the time, Rosbach blogged about how lucky Chastain was that Slover had a sense of humor. Were you worried? I think that was apparent and deserved, but when its all said and done, now you want credit for a great tip that you had no clue was coming? Wow, he wrote.

The Below Deck crew members have certainly been keeping busy since their time aboard the show.
The Daily Dish caught up with several alums backstage at the Below Deck 100th episode celebration on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen earlier this month, including Ben Robinson, Eddie Lucas, Kat Held, Connie Arias, Amy Johnson, David Bradberry, and Jen Howell, and we wanted to know where their careers have taken them since their time on the show.
Several of the former crew members have actually continued their careers in yachting or something related to boats. For one alum who worked their way up to chief stew, it sounds like the experience was even more intense than anything we've ever seen on Below Deck.
Others, like Amy and David, have dipped their toes into various industries since the show. David said his multiple career changes have given him "a dynamic several years," and Amy is loving wherever life takes her these days. "It's a great time to be alive!" she gushed.
It sounds like one Below Deck alum doesn't work all that much these days. Press play on the above video to find out who is practically "semi-retired," as well as all of the alums' major life updates.
Watch the current Valor crew discuss what we didn't see on-camera in the Below Deck Season 7 After Show, below.

Ashton Pienaar from Below Deck asserts that the darkness this season is due to the personality mix on the boat and not that hes simply a misogynist. The bosun spoke out about being accused of turning the deck team against deckhand Rhylee Gerber, plus the altercations he and Brian de Saint Pern had with chief stew Kate Chastain.
Pienaar returned this season to lead the deck team. While he began the season with a smile, he descended into troubled waters after violently lashing out at Chastain and constantly complaining about Gerber to his subordinates. He tried to have Gerber fired during a recent episode and seemed frustrated when Captain Lee Rosbach instead insisted Pienaar learn to get along with Gerber.
Hes received a significant amount of social media hate, with some fan groups calling for him to be fired. Crew members, including Rosbach, have had harsh words for the bosuns behavior. Plus, Rosbach said hed never consider working with Pienaar ever again.
Bravos The Daily Dish asked Pienaar about how the season has become an environment of men versus women. The whole misogynistic thing and the whole boys-verse-girls thing, thats kind of the theme of the way the season has gone. And, you know, I dont look at it as another boys thing, as this female-against-male thing, he asserted. If the guys had issues withKate [Chastain]andRhylee [Gerber]throughout the season thats what it [is].
Pienaar points out that he wasnt the only person who had an issue with Chastain. Everybody has their fair share of run-ins with Kate, he said. Brian had the [moment] where he called her a bitch, which obviously blew up. AndIve had my issues with Kate.
He then doubled down on why the entire deck team couldnt work with Gerber. We didnt not get along with Rhylee because shes female, he insisted. We did not get along with Rhylee because shes Rhylee, and she has the attitude that she has.
Pienaar also thinks some of the drama was due to small instances that were blown out of proportion. Anything negative, whether it was socially on the boat or a little joke or something like that, was really magnified, he said.
Viewers saw Pienaars reaction when Rosbach told him Gerber would replace deckhand Abbi Murphy. They also saw the number of times where he would continue to complain to his deck team about Gerber too. Gerber told Showbiz Cheat Sheet in November that Pienaar has held a grudge against her since season 6.
However, she was optimistic about her return and hoped to finally get a chance to dig in and learn more on deck. But I also had this dreaded feeling, you know, hes probably going to be gunning for me, she said. When she finally saw Pienaar, I think his heart literally stopped.
The problem is that Pienaars ego is out of control, Gerber said. Ashton has the biggest ego out of anybody Ive ever met, she said. With that, theres pros and cons because I know hes going to try to make himself look good as bosun, which means he was going to try to make it appear like he was being fair.
Gerber told Decider she even came into this season holding back, which she now regrets. She added that unfortunately, Pienaar allowed his personal pre-conceived opinion cloud his ability to lead the team. I think Ashton has all the qualities a bosun should have, without ever having been in the position myself. He can be a great leader if he remembers to keep his personal feelings aside. Because now youre in charge and its your responsibility to set that tone, and he very much shares his opinion with the crew so thats lacking leadership. However, when it comes to trying to plan things out and incorporate everybody, he did a much better job with that than Chander did.

Below Deck fans glimpsed a delicate tattoo running down chief stew Kate Chastains spine. Chastain rocked a gorgeous sleeveless dress with an open back during an evening on the town and the ink was on full display.
As Chastain chatted with chef Kevin Dobson outside the club, cameras captured the tattoo running the top of her spine. Fans didnt recall seeing the tattoo from previous seasons and wondered when she got the new ink. @Kate_Chastain when did you get your back tattoo? Its so pretty! #BelowDeck, a fan inquired.
The tattoo appears to be symbols or characters. Chastain responded that she got the tattoo last season in Tahiti. In Thailand with @josiahcarter_ after the end of last #BelowDeck season !, she first responded. Then added, I meant Tahiti duh. When you travel as much as Chastain, mashing up your countries is probably a pretty easy thing to do.
Second stew Josiah Carter added that getting the tattoo was pretty painful. God that was a painful afternoon, Carter shared. note to self, never go to a tattoo shop and say do what you want @Kate_Chastain.
Not only was it painful, but they also did it right before they flew home. Also never get a massive tattoo before a 17 hour flight, Chastain advised. She also shared a photo of Carter getting his ink. While Chastain had hers placed down her back, Carter went for the thigh. I think you were passed out in pain at this point, she wrote.
Chastain and Carter posed for a picture with their artists, once the pain was over and the duo could show off their ink. I think I was never been in so much pain in my life. But all worth it (I think) they both look so good, not that my face says that though, he wrote. Bosun Ross Inia shared that the tattoo took so long (or Carter spent too long licking his wounds) Carter almost missed his flight. True, Carter added.
Carter told Showbiz Cheat Sheet he and Chastain got their tattoos together when the season ended. He has also proudly shown his body art in a number of Instagram photos. Attempting to get that summer body!!! Anyone spot what I got in Tahiti after filming?#tikimangotta work all@those chicken nuggets off, he wrote in May. However, he first went public with the ink while donning the infamous gold Speedo. Casual day at the beach. hope you liked this weeks episode? @bravotv #belowdeck #entertainment #bravo#bravotvand for the record the guys were lovely, he wrote but didnt mention the tattoo.
Carter often remarked during his season about the tight bond he had with Chastain. Fortunate enough to work with this delightful lady on below deck. Happy birthday Kate, so many laughs! he shared last January. He also commented that he, Chastain and stew Laura Betancourt were the perfect trio. Dream interior team. Its the finale tomorrow whos ready??
Fans seemed to be very invested in Carter and Chastains friendship. However, the two drifted apart after filming stopped. When they reunited during the Below Deck 100th episode celebration, they said the break in their communication was more of a scheduling issue.

BEAUMONT, Texas After a string of recent crimes involving youth at Parkdale Mall in Beaumont, a group of men has decided it's time to be a part of the solution and stop what's become an ongoing problem for shoppers.
Geary Senigaur Jr. formed the organization called 'Dads on Deck.'
A group of dads, concerned citizens and police officers came together under the same roof for one common goal.
"Jail and the grave is real, so we're just trying to stay ahead of that curve and trying to stay ahead of that tragedy by being proactive," Senigaur said.
Thursday the group had its first meeting in hopes of finding more ways to be the difference they want to see in the community.
"The scriptures says faith without works is dead," Senigaur said. "So we have to put shoes on our prayers now and put them to action because nothing is going to be done by lip service."

In December the organization held their first outreach event and are hoping to build on that momentum by patrolling the mall every Saturday to stop recent crimes.

Anyone who looks back on their career likely has a few regrets, including the cast from Below Deck. Some of the crew members from the last seven seasons gathered in the Watch What Happens Live Clubhouse to celebrate the shows 100th episode.
Bravo asked several of the crew members if they had any regrets during their time on the show, and if so what did they regret the most? Some crew members had some pretty obvious regrets, however, others had some pretty surprising insights. I think during my first season, I just didnt understand the communicating your feelings on camera, chief stew Kate Chastain says in a digital original.
And so when people would do that, I was like, Why are you talking about your feelings at work?' Chastain continued. Its like Hey Johnson sibling, stop crying. But looking back, Im like, oh okay its kinda darling.
Bosun Eddie Lucas shared his regret, which he expressed immediately following his last season on the show. Biggest regret is obviously, season 3 and everything that went down between Rocky [Dakota] and I and the rest of the crew, he said. I was not happy with the way that all ended up and definitely if I could turn back time I would go back and not do a lot of things and respect my relationship back home and respect the people on the boat more. I wish I could have done that differently, but its been a while now and things have moved on.
Another regret that probably isnt surprising came from chef Ben Robinson. I took off my trousers once but it was a beautiful thing and people just loved it, he joked. Robinson adds that life is way too short for regrets.
Also, stew Kat Held, who appeared on the show for the first two seasons wishes she would have stuck it out longer on the show. I wish I had stuck with it a little bit longer, she said. For sure. So Im so excited to be back!
Tensions run high on Below Deck as the crew lives in tight quarters, working more than 15 hours a day. But stew Amy Johnson, who was sometimes brought to tears, wishes she wouldnt have gotten upset during certain times on the show. If I had to pick a biggest regret it would have to be that feeling as though things in the moment were way bigger than they actually were in perspective, she says.
Because youre working so hard, youre exhausted, everyones just trying to get the job done the best they can and manage all these different things, she continues. And when things happen in the moment, they feel like a really big deal. And when you look back and put things in perspective, youre like, Oh that could have been a way less deal.'
Deckhand Connie Arias agrees with Johnson and says she became a little crankier than she needed to be a few times on the show. Because it was not as big of a deal as Amy said, Arias remarked.
Johnsons brother Kelley says he didnt have many regrets when he was bosun on season 4. But season 2, I wish I would have taken it a little more seriously, he says. I came on it thinking, Hey its a TV show, were gonna have fun.' Stew Jen Howell says her biggest regret was letting stew Brianna Adekeye get to her. Also, deckhand David Bradberry was actually accused of not bringing enough drama. But he doesnt regret not getting into the mix. I can only be me, he says. I feel like when people try to make something out of nothing, thats when you go wrong.

Is anyone else exhausted from this season of Below Deck? From chef drama with Kevin Dobson to the toxic Bru Crew trio of Ashton Pienaar, Tanner Sterback andBrian de Saint Pern, I feel like I have been working a long charter season myself. When loose-cannon Rhylee Gerber is the most likeable person on the deck crew, you know you have personnel problems.
This week, Real Housewives of Orange County alum Alexis Bellino showed up on Below Deck with her boyfriend Andy Bohn in a Bravo crossover move. Admittedly, I was expecting Alexis to be up to her old diva ways. Surprisingly, that hasnt happened (yet!) as Alexis has been too busy engaging in some serious affection with her man. Kate Chastain and Courtney Skippon made it clear that they were not fans of Alexis excessive PDA. Not surprisingly, Alexis had something to say about it on social media.
In a Twitter post, Alexis stated, Pot calling the kettle black???? Kissing shouldnt be judged or ridiculed, especially if you are doing it too @kate_chastain and @courtneyskippon !!!! Fun times. We enjoyed every minute on the Valor! Thank yall! @belowdeckbravo.
Alexis has obviously watched this season of Below Deck, as Courtney has been romancing with Brian and Kate has had an odd flirtation with boy/man-about-the-boat Tanner. Their behavior is a little different than Alexis making out with Andy in front of strangers like spring breakers, but she has a pointin an Alexis kind of way.
Of course, Alexis had more to say, posting, TheREAL: 72 total hrs total on the Valor yacht. 5 min total of airtime that u see from that 72 hrs. 7 seconds total of kissing recorded. Several excursions, activities, meals, naps, pools, FUN that you didnt see. Ill be showing THAT footage from the Yacht!!! It was a blast! #Luvthecrew.
If we really only saw five minutes of airtime with Alexis, why did it feel like we watched five hours of kissing time? I wont quibble with her statistics, however. I dont think anyone ever wins an argument with Alexis with facts or logic.
In a follow up Twitter post, Alexis added, We tired after this excursion, yet so thankful for Phi Phi Island tour @belowdeckbravo (and we aint kissing, hmm? ) Thx @jakebarrena for your video skills and capturing the REAL!!!!! Many more videos and real behind the scenes coming this week!!!
Alexis shared a brief video in this post in which she and her man were not kissingI guess that clears it all up. Advantage, Bellino! I cant imagine what we would need to see that isnt already shown on Below Deck, but I will give Alexis her moment in the scorching Thai sun. A sparkling new divorcee is deserving of some me-me-me time.
So, were Courtney and Kate offended by any of Alexis comments? A supportive Courtney took to Twitter and posted, Not sayin I blame you for one second. As Courtney had just hit a rough patch with Brian, it couldnt have been fun to watch a couple actively engaging in affection with each other. OKAlexis engaged in affection and Andy looking like he wanted to hide under the nearest deck chair.
Kate is also feeling Alexis amore, posting, you were one of my favorite charter guests this season! You two make a gorgeous couple. Considering how Kate feels about many of the charter guests, this is an absolute love fest for Alexis and Andy. Need any bridesmaids, Alexis? Kate would probably love to oblige!
The real drama will continue behind the scenes for the rest of the season with the at-odds yachties. I am crossing my fingers there will be a reunion as I am eager to see how the Bru Crew defends their questionable behavior towards the female crew members. And lets add Kevin to that dodgy Bru Crew interrogation, too.
TELL USDO YOU THINK ALEXIS WAS TOO AFFECTIONATE WITH ANDY ON THE CHARTER? ARE YOU SURPRISED ALEXIS HAS NOT BEEN A MORE DEMANDING CHARTER GUEST?

Burlingame | $2.898 MillionA cedar-shingled 1916 cottage with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms
Burlingame, a city in San Mateo County, between San Francisco and Palo Alto, has a population of about 28,000 and a median home sale price of $1.95 million. This Arts and Crafts house is in Burlingame Park, a historic neighborhood a few blocks from the center of one of the citys two retail districts. There, youll find restaurants, boutiques, the Copenhagen Bakery and an Apple store.
Size: 2,180 square feet
Price per square foot: $1,329
Indoors: The single-level house was renovated by a previous owner and includes a recently upgraded kitchen and bathrooms. (The current owner bought the property less than six years ago.)
A central foyer with oak floors and a vintage brass pendant light opens, though windowed pocket doors, into a living room with extensive millwork and built-ins. The wood-burning brick fireplace is flanked by square, glass-fronted bookshelves, each with an adjacent window seat. The large dining room, entered from the foyer through a second set of pocket doors, has another wall of Mission-style cabinetry.
The kitchen includes white wood cabinets with marble countertops, a white bead-board wainscot and a butcher-block work area with seating placed against a wall, to make efficient use of the narrow space. The gas range is Thermador, the dishwasher Bosch and the refrigerator Sub-Zero.
Off the dining room is an office with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a built-in corner desk and upper cabinets.
A windowed door with milk-glass panes opens to the large master suite. The master bathroom was finished with marble surfaces, a roomy tub with an integrated shower and a toilet closet. Two guest bedrooms share a bathroom faced in white subway tile, with a combined tub and shower. There is also a powder room.
A pocket door in the kitchen offers access to a carpeted, finished basement with recessed and natural light.
Outdoor space: The house occupies a corner lot with lawns and hedges and is wrapped by a white picket fence. The front door is tucked under the roof of an elevated front porch. French doors in the kitchen open to a large rear deck. Parking is in a detached one-car garage and an off-street paved area with an electric vehicle charger.
This property is in East Ojai, two blocks north of Grand Avenue. It is surrounded by large citrus and olive ranches, and has the feeling of Tuscany, with bigger mountains. It is four miles east of the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa, a 250-acre resort that is a centerpiece of this city of 7,500, which is known for its outstanding beauty and prohibition of chain stores. Downtown Los Angeles is 80 miles southeast, and Santa Barbara is 36 miles west.
Size: 1,600 square feet
Price per square foot: $1,801
Indoors: The home was bought four years ago and brought back from a ruinous state. Original features, including sections of its redwood siding, were restored or given period replacements.
A wood-faced foyer leads to a combined living-and-dining room, where glass spans the distance between a ceramic-tile floor and a beamed, slatted ceiling, and the redwood walls have an artful, patchwork look. A large tile fireplace is fronted by a custom wrought-iron screen that swings open like a gate. (The artisan who created it also designed the iron gates that admit cars and pedestrians to the property.)
The renovated kitchen is long and lean, with white cabinetry, dark countertops, floating stainless steel shelves and high-end appliances, including a Viking range.
The three bedrooms all have slatted redwood ceilings, paneled walls, tiled floors and expansive windows. The en suite master bathroom includes a walk-in subway-tiled shower; the guest bathroom has a combined shower and tub.
There is a separate studio building with a room for lounging or working, and a sink and counter area off to the side.
Outdoor space: The professionally landscaped property has lush greenery and multiple patios; one includes an outdoor grill built in rough stone near the recently built swimming pool, while another overlooks a koi pond to the side.

The renowned Austrian-American architect Richard Neutra designed this one-story home in the Encino district of Los Angeles for a physician and his wife. It has remained in the same family ever since, along with extensive correspondence and transaction records related to its construction.
The house faces north, with views of the San Gabriel Mountains. It is a mile and a half above Ventura Boulevard, which is lined with chain stores and other businesses. Los Encinos State Historic Park is about two miles north, and Westridge-Canyonback Wilderness Park and Mulholland Drive are the same distance south. Downtown Los Angeles is 20 miles southeast. The Van Nuys Airport, which is popular with private jet owners, is six miles north.
Size: 2,676 square feet
Price per square foot: $1,074
Indoors: Passing through a glassed-in front atrium space with plantings, and a red double front door, you enter a freshly painted and carpeted area that extends the width of the house, with a transparent back wall overlooking the pool and distant mountains.
At one end is a living room with a floating fireplace along a side wall. A sliding partition that runs along a ceiling track closes off the living room from the adjacent dining area, and a second partition separates the dining room from the kitchen on the other side.
The kitchen includes ash cabinetry with hardware that is original and tile countertops that are not, and a retractable shade to block sunlight streaming through the rear wall of glass. A third sliding partition divides the kitchen from the room beyond it a den with wood paneling and built-in floating shelves.
To the right of the entrance is a hallway leading to the three bedrooms. The master suite, which looks out to the pool, has wraparound glass walls and a private outdoor patio and putting green. The master bathroom includes double sinks and a sunken Roman tub with a shower head; the period-appropriate linoleum flooring is new.
Two guest bedrooms share the hall bathroom in between, which has a sunken bathtub and separate dressing room with a long vanity. A fourth bedroom behind the den looks out to the front atrium and is staged as an office. It has access to a bathroom with a shower; this room also opens to the pool area. A niche with washer-and-dryer hookups is here, as well.
Outdoor space: The almost-half-acre lot is large and level for the neighborhood, with extraordinary views. If the property were bought by a developer and this historic home were torn down, as is happening frequently in the hot Los Angeles real estate market, it would be a veritable crime. Parking, for two cars, is in an attached carport.

$2.9 Million Homes in California - The New York Times
Category
Countertops | Comments Off on $2.9 Million Homes in California – The New York Times
As we slide into a new decade, the kitchen of tomorrow is taking shape. And one characteristic above all dominates: low maintenance.
Going back 20 years, kitchens were beautiful and functional, but they also required a lot of upkeep. They could be anxiety-provoking, too think pristine marble countertops that were prone to staining and scratching, or stainless-steel finishes that showed every fingerprint.
Today's homeowners aren't interested in that kind of stress. Fortunately, manufacturers have responded with a slew of new products and materials that combine beauty and performance with minimal upkeep. Here are five to consider for your next kitchen remodel:
Quartz countertops
Spilled wine, oven-hot casserole dishes and razor-sharp chef's knives can wreak havoc on marble and other natural stones but not quartz. The engineered stone consists of stone chips, pigments and resins that combine to form an impervious surface, without the need for periodic sealing. Quartz also comes in an array of beautiful designs, including faux-stone patterns, so you can have the look of marble (or granite or soapstone or concrete) without all the upkeep.
Black stainless steel
Traditional stainless-steel appliances have endured for so long because they provide the perfect neutral backdrop in so many kitchen design schemes. The downside is the constant wiping of fingerprints, water marks and more. That fact is driving a ton of consumer interest to black stainless steel, especially among younger homeowners with busy families. The material's matte finish makes it virtually smudge-proof, and its soft, warm luster plays well in a range of kitchen styles, from transitional to mid-century modern.
Porcelain flooring
Natural wood has been the preferred kitchen flooring material for decades, conferring warmth and beauty throughout millions of homes. But as many of those homeowners will attest, wood floors are highly susceptible to scratching, denting and fading. Enter porcelain tile, a supremely durable material that's also moisture-proof a bonus in kitchen installations. What's more, porcelain comes in many very convincing faux-wood patterns, from weathered oak to the richest mahogany, so there's no compromise on style.
Colored cabinets
The classic white kitchen will never go away completely, but more homeowners have discovered just how much elbow grease goes into maintaining the all-white look. As a result, more people are applying color to their cabinets. The embrace started slowly, with beiges and grays, but we're now seeing deeper blues and greens find their way into the kitchen.
Preferences around cabinet styles are also evolving. Twenty years ago, we saw a lot of ornate designs with raised panels and delicate moldings all of which trapped grease and grime and were a pain to clean. Today's homeowners are opting for simple, flat-front designs, epitomized by Shaker cabinets, in part because they're so easy to wipe down.
Matte finishes
For the same reason black stainless steel is becoming more common, homeowners are choosing low-maintenance matte finishes for their kitchen faucets, cabinet hardware and light fixtures. Smudge-resistant brushed nickel is particularly common on faucets, though more and more are choosing matte black to coordinate with their black stainless-steel appliances. Homeowners who are going for the popular mixed-metal look might do lighting fixtures or cabinet hardware in an oil-rubbed bronze finish. It requires a bit more upkeep, but most people are OK with that, provided the rest of the kitchen is super easy to clean and maintain.
