FARGO For Justin Hennessy, a journeyman plumber with Home Heating & Plumbing, becoming a plumber was about carrying on a family tradition. Hennessys father owns a plumbing business back home in Graceville, Minn.

I always wanted to be like my dad, Hennessy said. I guess its just one of those things where he was a plumber, so I wanted to be a plumber.

Q. Being a plumber can mean a lot of different things. What do you do?

A: I work in commercial and residential plumbing. Its all new installation.

How does one become a plumber?

You pretty much learn on the job. You can do a one-year course at a tech school, which I did, to get a plumbing certificate. Then you have to work 200 hours before you can take your journeymans test. From there, you can basically work alone under a master plumber.

The same would be true for service plumbers, the people who come and fix your sinks and unclog your drains.
