Demolition on the old Winn Dixie building on Shelby Road is expected to be complete by the end of next week, making way for a Walmart Neighborhood Market in Kings Mountain.

Announced in November, the Neighborhood Market will be a grocery store smaller than the companys Superstores.

The project is still going according to schedule, Kings Mountain Mayor Rick Murphrey said Tuesday.

We talked to the Walmart construction team and their goal is to have the demolition done by the end of next week, said Murphrey. Their target is still to have the building in place and opening up in the latter part of October or early November.

The store will be located at the site of a former Winn Dixie grocery store building at Kings Mountain Plaza. The facility will be 40,000-square-foot and is expected to bring about 95 jobs to the area.

In March, The Star reported that Walmart will begin accepting applications for those jobs beginning this summer.

Theyll set up an office where you can come by and apply for a job about 100 days before the store opens, Murphrey previously told The Star.

The office will open in Kings Mountain in late July or early August to begin filling those positions, and Murphrey said Walmart would notify the public when the office opens.
