The former Carlton House at Eighth and Main streets in Stroudsburg may start coming down at the end of this month.

The project developer, Dein Properties, had hoped to begin demolition over the summer on the building, which was badly damaged by a December 2009 fire.

Dein faced some delays, however, because power lines had to be moved before demolition could begin.

In July, part of Eighth Street was closed for several days while a contractor for PPL Electric Utilities moved the lines away from the building.

Because of that delay, the contractor scheduled to demolish the building picked up other projects, further delaying work on the Carlton House, said George Strunk, general manager of Dein Properties.

Strunk estimates the demolition itself could take up to a month to complete.

A flat, vacant lot will be left once the building is removed.
