Poor decision costs plumber fines, driver's licence

A POOR decision has cost a Toowoomba plumber $1750 in fines after he fronted court yesterday on a disqualified driving charge.

Reece James Boxshall, 24, was also banned from the roads for another two years after an appearance in Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

The court heard Boxshall had given a false name to a police officer when stopped on Glenvale Rd in Toowoomba on November 29 last year.

A computer check revealed Boxshall was still subject to a two-year driving disqualification, ordered in November, 2013, when he was caught driving.

He also a returned a blood-alcohol content reading of 0.046 per cent which was below the normal legal limit of 0.05%, but above the no-alcohol limit to which Boxshall was subject.

Defence solicitor Phil Stainton said his client was on medication at the time and was not supposed to have been drinking.

He said it contributed to his client's decision to drive.

"Your Honour, he has stopped consuming alcohol since this offence occurred."

Magistrate Graham Lee fined Boxshall $1500 for the three offences plus a further $250 for failing to provide police with identifying particulars.
