The Land Clearing Division of S.M. Smith and Sons, Inc. is one of only a few clearing contractors in the area who self-perform all land clearing procedures; logging, grubbing, grinding and burning. We specialize in all forms of land clearing from road widening to mass clearing.

The logging crew is supervised by one of the officers of the company. The officer is on site at all times to ensure that no trees outside the denuded limits are cut, tree protected areas are left undisturbed and the crew follows all OSHA safety regulations. Having our own logging crew on-site enables us to control the amount of cutting that takes place during the erosion control process. Most logging companies are in it for the timber and are often tempted to over cut to make there quotas. Our logging crews main purpose is to assist in the land clearing operation.

Our operators are trained to handle any type of job. A fleet of dozers and excavators equipped with specialized grubbing attachments enable our crews to perform each job at optimal productivity. From steep rough terrain, to flat wet terrain, grubbing and raking are no problem. We rake every job twice to ensure the cleanest conditions possible. Whatever equipment is needed to turn over the site to the customer on schedule will be available.

We have two grinding crews, both consisting of a large tub grinder, excavator and rake tractor. The grinding crews work together with the clearing and grubbing personnel to ensure that the high quality of work is carried on throughout the grinding process.

Most of our jobs are chipped by the logging crew, meaning most of what we grind are stumps. Grinding only stumps minimizes the amount of mulch hauled off site, thus expediting the mulch hauling process. We also clean up our grinding piles with our own rake tractor in consideration for the grading contractor.

S.M. Smith & Sons, Inc. would be happy to help with any job of any size. From one acre to one thousand, we are capable of handling all your land clearing needs.
