Mountain View Sanatorium Photography
Mountain View Sanatorium, while humble in size when compared to some of the more well known historical hospitals, is still a relatively large facility set to accommodate several hundred patients at a time. More than a century old, Mountain View was originally built as a tuberculosis ward. Settled up in the mountains overlooking quite the view, it was thought that part of the cure for tuberculosis was plenty of fresh air. Patients had access to screened in porches and sunrooms. After advancements in modern medicine led to the production of antibiotics that could effectively treat TB, the sanatorium was then converted to a mental ward to house psychiatric patients and those considered "feeble minded". While one of the wings of the complex was abandoned and left in disrepair for several decades, other parts of the facility were in complete operation up until just a few months ago. Now, due to budget cuts, the state shuttered the hospital and moved the remaining few hundred patients to other hospitals equipped to deal with their needs. This particular hospital is in relatively good condition in comparison to other hospitals that have closed down and were absolutely falling apart. Even the wing that has been abandoned far longer than most places have been closed at all still shows minimal signs of destruction, aside from what has occurred naturally. http://www.AbandonedNJ.com http twitter.com http://www.pinterest.comFrom:abandonedNJViews:3 1ratingsTime:05:33More inEntertainment
