"There #39;s No Such Thing as a Free Lunch" - A presentation by John Cadman
What really are the true costs of the National School Lunch Program? John sheds some light on this and the challenges in trying to mass feed 30 million school children daily in this country. Learn why this is the most popular yet flawed social welfare program in our nation #39;s history, acting as both a public feeding program and a disposal service for surplus USDA commodities. Therein lies the key to the nation #39;s obesity problem because the USDA calls the shots but almost exclusively supports the production of animal and processed foods, which then show up in the school lunch program. John has found a way to meet USDA guidelines and still provide vegetaian options for students. John Cadman is currently the Food Service Director for Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus. He served for 15 years as a Food Service Manager in both elementary and high school settings and the only one in Hawaii offering an optional vegetarian menu. He has six boys of his own, so feeding children is one thing he knows a lot about.
