Plumber credited for saving baby

ROSWELL, Ga. -

The city of Roswell will soon recognize a plumber who saved a baby's life. Ryan Corely jumped into action and used CPR to save Sylvia Reed's 14-month-old daughter.

Corely, a plumber with Creative Multicare, was at a job at the Roswell apartment home Concepts 21 when they heard a woman scream from a nearby apartment.

Reed said that she thought her daughter was choking on food.

"Eyes kind of rolled to the side and I noticed that she wasn't breathing but I thought maybe she had choked on like some of the food, so I bent her over and patted her on the back andnothing and I noticed she wasn't breathing, no air, no nothing and I panicked and that is when I started screaming," said Reed.

Corely's colleague called 911 while he ran to help the woman. He said he found a little girl on the couch and purple turning blue.

"I ended up giving her CPR after that. And after she had started kind of gasping for air, I knew that she was back breathing, so I had put her on the floor on her back and raised the back of her neck up to help her open her breathing way to know it would be easier to breathe for her," Corely said.

Corely said that he took a CPR class nearly 15 years ago.

"Never had to use it. Especially not on a 13-month-old child," he said.

Corely advises others to take CPR training.
