It has been reported in H&V News that the survey, commissioned by Swinton Commercial, used a sample of 100 tradesmen and women from all over the country. 22% of respondents claimed that as much as 84% of their workload comes from fixing DIY disasters. Over a quarter of those surveyed said they were regularly called out to incidents at business premises and all agreed that over ambitious DIYers were risking the health of themselves and of those around them. Further to this, 100% believed that the main reasons people undertake DIY jobs themselves are because they think it will be cheaper than outsourcing it or because they are afraid of falling victim to rogue traders.

Commenting on the findings, Swinton Commercial National Business Development Manager, Alastair Denness said, the results of the study are troubling, showing that UK plumbers are seeing a trend in people undertaking technically demanding and potentially dangerous DIY jobs in order to cut costs.
