Baltimore, Md (PRWEB) May 31, 2013

As part of their continued commitment to the local community, Len the Plumber is sponsoring the annual Dot Dash 8k to fight the crisis on Braille Literacy. The race is hosted by The National Federation of the Blind, a national organization whose home is in Baltimore, MD. The money raised will help in tackling some alarming statistics and raising the general publics awareness of the lack of accessibility to Braille.

Right now only 10% of blind children are being taught Braille in public schools due to a lack of programs. Research has shown that blind people who know and use Braille have higher rates of employment, self-confidence, and general social integration. The Dot Dash 8k will help in raising awareness and engage the community in activities to learn more about the importance of teaching Braille. It will also fund summer Braille enrichment programs, give infants and newly blinded veterans access to Braille materials among a number of other great programs for Braille literacy.

The race is Sunday, June 2 at 8:00 a.m. and will start at the National Federation of the Blind headquarters in downtown Baltimore and run through Locust Point and For McHenry. In addition to their sponsorship, Len the Plumber will also have employees running in the race to show their support.

Len the Plumber has strong ties to the community and routinely gets the employees involved in the actual events they sponsor. I dont want to just throw money at something, yes thats part of what they need but its also valuable to involve our employees so they can interact with the community and witness what their hard work is doing for the community. Were only here because the community supported us as we grew so we return the favor through supporting their efforts when we can, stated Lisa Fairley, Marketing Director for Len the Plumber.
