(PRWEB UK) 12 June 2013

As reported in HVP in the article published on June 12, OFTEC Promotes Workmanship Warranty, the Oil Firing Technical Association (OFTEC) have announced that all registered installation businesses are required to supply a workmanship warranty to their customers. The Department for Communities & Local Government (DCLG) has given OFTEC until June 2014 to implement these changes and guarantee that registered installation businesses which self-certificate their building regulation work in England and Wales, will provide customers with the warranty.

The warranty, available from OFTEC Insurance Services, aims to reassure customers when installation work is undertaken in their homes. The warranty covers all domestic work that is covered by Building Regulation Approved Document J, from the installation of boilers and cookers, to plumbing and electrical installations. It also covers costs incurred from correcting infringements of building regulations related to the installation for up to six years. This ensures that even if the original installer is not available, any faults in the installation can be corrected.

Adrian Lightwood, OFTECs registration manager, told HVP that:

Because the warranty provides important additional reassurance for homeowners it should form part of any professional installation service.

A representative from Coventry Emergency Plumbers welcomed OFTECs announcement of a new warranty which guarantees the protection of customers:

The fact that the aim of the workmanship warranty is to reassure customers and offer them peace of mind that the installation work has been fitted to a high standard, is of particular interest. We aim to reassure customers through the high quality installations and services we offer, but this warranty offers further reassurance to the customer. As the warranty covers the majority of appliances, customers can be safe in the knowledge that, if necessary, the installations are insured if any further work needs to be done.
