A public meeting about the upcoming demolition of the Lincoln Square apartments in Lakeland will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Simpson Park Community Room, 1725 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.

The demolition is expected to begin later this month.

In May, Lakeland city commissioners voted to spend $836,000 to hire Lakeshore Environmental Contractors, a Birmingham, Ala., company, to demolish the apartments and remove any asbestos from the area.

The 120 concrete apartment units, which cover roughly five acres, were built in the 1920s.
