Morrison Remodeling & Repairs, a leading Massachusetts residential remodeling company operating north of Boston, was recently awarded a prestigious 2013 Contractor of the Year award by the Eastern Massachusetts chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI).

The company took gold in the Residential Kitchen $50,000-$100,000 category with a one-of-a-kind kitchen designed by Interior Designer Cheryl Morrison and built with the help of several North Shore professionals and product suppliers.

"It was an honor to have received the Gold CotY award this year and our third Contractor of the Year in as many years," said Gary Morrison, owner of Beverly's Morrison Remodeling & Repairs. "It was a great team effort, and we could not have won the award without partnering with our talented local craftsmen and suppliers."

The Contractor of the Year award recognizes the most exceptional remodeling projects completed by NARI members over the course of the previous year.

Entries take the form of before and after photos of each submitted project, along with extremely detailed descriptions of the project itself.

A panel of adjudicators composed of remodeling industry experts then judges submissions based on criteria like craftsmanship, aesthetics, functionality, and how the contractor approached the challenges involved in the project's completion.

The project client in this case was a young family of four, new to their Beverly Farms Colonial, and the challenge Cheryl needed to overcome was that the existing kitchen was outdated, cramped and isolated from the rest of the first floor.

To integrate it into a newly opened first-story floor plan, Cheryl created an L-shaped kitchen layout with a corresponding angular island. Details like a left-set dishwasher to accommodate a lefty, the touch-technology faucet, under cabinet lighting, ambient lighting for the entire kitchen and dining room areas, and display cabinets likely contributed to Morrison Remodeling's third Contractor of the Year win.

Cheryl's design also included a strategic inset refrigerator placement that allowed for the creation of a mudroom with a closet, a bench, a coat rack placed at just the right height for children, and even a spot for the family pet.

"It was a pleasure to work with this young family to create a kitchen that will work for them for years to come," added Cheryl. "They are extremely happy with their kitchen and I am pleased that Morrison Remodeling was a part of that."
