Demolition kicks off at St George's Lane, Worcester City's former home

FULL time has been calledon Worcester Citys famousSt Georges Lane groundafter bulldozers moved in.

The historic stadium isbeing demolished, havingbeen handed over todevelopers Careys NewHomes last summer.

Club bosses say the finalstages of the demolitionmark the end of an era forCity, who are currentlyground-sharing withKidderminster Harriers atAggborough.

Its the final act of aproud history dating backto 1905, said vice-chairmanColin Layland.

She was anold lady in need of repairwhich we could not afford.

The picture shows one ofthe cranes that has movedin to tear down the entirestructure. The projectshould be complete withina couple of days.

MrLayland has a host ofmemories from St GeorgesLane, the best being an FACup giant-killing before15,000 fans.

The club is still in talkswith Worcester CityCouncil over a possiblemove to the Perdiswell areaof Worcester.
