AS EARLY as 7 a.m. Wednesday, jobseekers were already crowding outside the Job Placement Bureau-Public Employment Service Office (Peso) at the city hall in the hopes of availing work overseas.

The diaspora of Filipino workers in the Middle East has continued, as unemployment in the country continues to remain unabated and has not been addressed well.

Almarai company, the largest vertically integrated dairy firm in the world located in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, is looking for vehicle inspection technicians, diesel mechanics, refrigeration technicians and training officers.

According to Peso manager Kathleen Sorilla, they contacted applicants under the National Skills Registry System (NSRS) that match the qualifications needed for the job.

Marion Yarado, a high school graduate, took up technical courses in a local vocational school and has worked at an appliance repair shop for the past three years.

My two elder siblings are married. Me and my younger brother live with my mother. I want to help her in sending Rey (brother) to school. Im trying my luck here and hopefully Ill be sent abroad. Any job, as long as I can do it is okay, Yarado said.

Agapito Baldasan recently lost his job because his company recently cut off the number of its employees.

This is my first time to apply for a job, since I stopped working last week. Im glad nga timing kayo ang hiring as even before pa gusto na gyud nako mag-abroad. Sa gawas man gud, wala silay mind whatever imong gieskwelahan basta kay kabalo ka, Baldasan, who is married and has two children, told this paper.

Sorilla said the citys Peso has integrated the NSRS to help lessen the number of jobseekers that come in during one-time job fairs.
