THE five architects in the running to design Bristol's new91 million arenahave been revealed.

On the shortlist are the architects of the London Olympic Stadium, the Eden Project and teams behindtwo other city arenas.

Bristol Mayor George Ferguson announced the shortlist of five experienced design teams for the 12,000 capacity arena at his annual State of the City address this evening.

He alsosaid he expected a preferredoperator for the arena has been selected and is likely to be announced next month.

The five on the shortlist, after a competition run by the Royal Institute of British Architects,are:

Idom Ingeniera y Consultora Designers of the Bilbao Arena

Populous - Architects of the London Olympic Stadium

White Arkitekter - Architects for Kiruna city plan, Sweden

Wilkinson Eyre - Architects of the Liverpool Arena
