To provide greater kitchen space with increased quality of light and connectivity with the garden our team of in #8208;house designers proposed a new infill side extension. The side kitchen wall was removed and a new steel beam installed to support the existing structure and bathroom above. A pair of large roof lights optimise the natural light from above whilst a new patio door and enlarged kitchen window provide further light and access to the refurbished paved patio. High density insulated blocks are used to provide good thermal mass to the new extension whilst a new external leaf of London stock bricks retains the aesthetic and charm of the existing house. New steel supporting beams, specified by our structural engineer, are installed under the guidance of an approved local authority Building Control Officer. Temporary props support the existing brick wall until the new structural beam and posts are accurately raised into position and rigidly bolted in place. All existing soil waste pipes and rainwater drainage are re #8208;routed and concealed within the depth of the new supporting steel and profiled steel gutter to maximise the uninterrupted ceiling height.
